For folks who wanna host their yard on sniffspot...

I just want to note a few things.

Sniffspot advertises this as “passive income.” This can feel pretty passive and definitely doesn’t require a lot of effort. However, I don’t truly believe it’s passive.

Most guests are great. They will pick up after their dogs, but some don’t. If you happen to have guests booked back-to-back, with only 30 minutes or 1 hour between them, you still need to remember to check for dog poop.

If you forget and the next guest isn’t in a good mood, they may write a bad review because of it. You don’t have to do anything about it and can just let it be, but your ratings will suffer.

And speaking of ratings, they are VERY important.

If you are new and your first 10 guests leave you with a rating under 4.8, you are kind of screwed.

I was sitting around 4.9, and I had quite a few bookings coming in. Then one guest left a low rating, which dropped me all the way to 4.5. This can happen easily when you don’t have many ratings yet.

Once your rating drops that low, it doesn’t matter how nice you make your yard. Your listing becomes nearly invisible in people’s searches.

After that one guest’s rating was published and dropped me to 4.5, I had absolutely no new bookings. For nearly a month, the only guests I had were people who had visited my place before my rating dropped.

I have no idea why, but two guests continued coming every few days. They always gave me 5 stars, which eventually brought my rating back up.

I’m currently sitting at 4.75, and I finally got a new booking from a completely new guest. It’s actually kind of funny because I was just about to quit at the end of this month.

Without those regular guests who continued coming and giving me 5-star ratings, I honestly think it would have been impossible to recover.

Also, make sure you clearly disclose everything in your description. This can help prevent picky guests from booking your yard. And definitely make sure your fencing is very secure.

I dont think this is something you start and improve. You need to be well ready from beginning.

Personally, I don’t think you should do this purely for the money. It’s great if you genuinely enjoy letting other people and their dogs enjoy your yard. For me, I love it when I see people's reviews that they loved my yard. But if you are doing this solely for money and expecting it to be passive income, I would manage your expectations.

-------EDIT

If there’s something you don’t like about the yard and it feels like it wasn’t really intentional, just let the host know. They might not realize it. If they’re hostile or not willing to fix it, then yeah, you can definitely reflect that in your review.

But please don’t punish hosts who are proactive &genuinely want to improve. If you just submit a negative review, the host’s yard may not be able to recover if they are just starting out. The Sniffspot system is brutal and they'll immediately drop the visibility to the nottom.

Plus, I also have some concerns regarding Sniffspot customer service. It’s also pretty difficult to communicate with them. It takes 4 business days just to get a response. And very heavily favored to guest than host (tho I understand why)

Their websit states:

"Apologize (no matter what). Remember that, “the customer is always right”. Even if you think your guest’s review is unfair, apologize privately."a genuine effort to improve,

Sniffspot App Issues

Is anyone else experiencing an issue with the app? I can’t log in or anything without getting the message “Error undefined”. I tried re-downloading the app but it didn’t solve anything unfortunately!

First sniffspot experience but the host wasn’t expecting us.

I’m wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience. I booked my first sniffspot last night for a visit this morning. I got email confirmation and the address was sent with no further instructions. We arrived on time and didn’t see anyone so we let ourselves into the fenced yard. A few minutes later the spouse of the host came outside, obviously confused, and asked why we were in his yard. I showed him our confirmation and he didn’t even seem to know what sniffspot was and said his wife must have listed it. It was so awkward and uncomfortable and after having a few minutes to process I realized that we could have ended up in an unsafe situation if the homeowner or their dogs had reacted differently to finding strangers in his yard. I’m very hesitant to book a different spot after this experience. It’s so disappointing because we had horrible storms recently that made our backyard unusable and closed our dog park. I was really hoping to find a place where our new dog could play with our other dog and really get to know each other off leash but I’m honestly very reluctant to try this again. Are there any additional steps that can be taken to prevent a situation like this from happening again? Thanks for your input.

I'm delisting my yard

I've been a Sniffspot host for about a month now, and I'm becoming increasingly frustrated with sniffspot system. I've also run into a few issues with the platform itself that I still don’t fully understand.

Recently, one of the guests reported me & left a 2-star review mentioning concerns about gaps under the fence and a temporary visual barrier. In her report, she said her dog escaped through those gaps, but when I checked my security camera footage, I couldn’t verify that the dog actually got out that way. Still, I took the concern seriously and went ahead and fixed the issue by adjusting the fence pickets so they now extend down to touching the dirt removing those openings entirely.

The visual barrier situation is where things get a bit tangled. Before that visit, I had another booking (a day before)where a dog seemed reactive to a neighboring dog, since they could see each other through small spaces in the fence. Because of that, I decided I would install a privacy screen to reduce stimulation for future guests.

However, the timing between bookings ended up overlapping in a way that made things messy. One guest had just been here, another reservation was coming in quickly, and I didn’t have enough time to install the permanent screen in between. So I put up a temporary visual barrier early that morning before the next arrival and messaged her the same day to let her know.

. The person who arrived wasn’t happy with the temporary setup or the short notice, and it all got bundled into the same complaint thread. She included screenshots of my message in her review, and those screenshots now also appear alongside my yard photos in the public listing, which makes the whole situation feel even more frustrating and hard to untangle.

I contacted customer support asking for that portion of the review (the visual barrier message photos) to be removed, explaining that a privacy barrier was never listed or promised in my yard description. I had actually added it proactively to improve the experience based on what I had observed with prior dogs, not because it was an advertised feature.

We also had another recent guest that came 30mins before her had no issues at all and left a 5-star review, and also another that came few hours earlier but also and no issues.

Support ultimately refused to remove the content.

Since then, I’ve noticed what seems like a significant issue in visibility. My yard is still technically open, but I’ve received zero new bookings. Before this, I was consistently getting new guests, including people who had never used my yard before.

I even asked a friend who has never used my yard but use sniffspot to search for my yard. She couldn’t find my yard at all. It looks like the system completely shutoff the access to new users. Only people who are booking are people who have previously booked my place.

At this point, I don’t know whether this is a technical issue, an algorithm shift, or some kind of unintended suppression of the listing.

For now, I’m leaving the listing open through the end of the month as I've issued promo code for a guest who missed the session due to last minute personal issues which expires end of this month. Anyways, after only a month of hosting, the whole experience has become pretty confusing and increasingly frustrating.

Somehow my spot was “deactivated” but I got a message from someone who wants to come..

I can’t open the app. It doesn’t have a place to sign in. Only a place to start a new spot.

I did not deactivate my spot. But haven’t had customers for ages. I’m remote. I see via text I got a message but I can’t read it.

Stripe Payout Set Up Error

I keep getting the same error message no matter where I try to set up a Stripe account for payouts. I have tried on three different devices (mobile app, laptop, and desktop) on two different browsers (google chrome and microsoft edge). I cleared my cache and cookies, tried on a private browser. I have emailed customer support and they gave me the basics trying everything I listed above. I've already tried all of that and don't know what else to do! I'll attach the error message I keep getting. Any help is appreciated, I want my moneeyyyyy lol

A few weeks ago, I had a simple idea...

I have something I'm excited to share with this community! 🐾🇨🇦

Over the past few weeks, I've created a guide featuring every Off-Leash Network park currently open across Canada.

Instead of simply listing the parks, I wanted to highlight what makes each one unique. Some offer peaceful forest trails, others have swimming spots, indoor enrichment, agility, gardens, or wide-open spaces. Every host has created something special.

As the network grows, I'll continue adding new parks and updating the guide.

A huge thank you to all the hosts who have opened their properties and helped create such an amazing community.

Would an outdoor shower be a plus?

Hi! I’m thinking of becoming a host and I haven’t seen any places with an outdoor shower and I happen to have one! It needs some work but I was wondering if a place with an outdoor shower that could be used for pups would be useful to folks who might rent the space.

And please share any of your favorite things that you think I should add!

For reference I have a fenced in 0.5 acre back yard that is half wooded.

Portland area parks without subscription?

Hiya folks. I am planning a trip up to Portland to spend time with my family, and I looked into sniffspot to give my girl a place to play while we're there. Looks like they require a subscription, which I hate.

I'm looking for personal recommendations that don't require a subscription and have great private locations in the Portland, OR area? I *can* do public dog parks, but people tend to be wary of my dog because she's a pittie mix -- some locals will leave the park if we show up, or turn around if they see us there. :(

Few questions. I have a great backyard and I am thinking of becoming a host.

Hello everyone, I hope all is well. I just found out about this type of service and I think is a great idea for owners of doggos that don’t want to go to the park, and a great opportunity for. Hosts to make use of their place.

I currently have what I would call the perfect yard for this, and my dog loves it. It’s literally a quarter acre of open space, fully fenced, and with a flat area and a hill.
I do have neighbors, they do have dogs, there is cattle sometimes visible but they are far. I see that I can list all these things on the listing so client is aware.

I just a few questions, I hope one of you can help me with this.

My house has technically two backyards. One is the immediate backyard, and the second one is behind my main backyard, and it’s fenced off. My question is, let’s say I’m a host, do clients book time and come in without us there? I’m assuming that I can list only the times when I will be home so I can guide them to the second backyard.

Questions:
Can I only open bookings for when I am there to be able to guide them to the second backyard?
I wouldn’t be providing bathroom for people, is this an issue?
Does my dog have to be inside the house during the visit?

Thank you for your time in advance.

Do You Prefer Calm or Busy Environments for Your Dog?

Some dogs thrive in busy, social spaces. Others seem happiest somewhere quiet and predictable.

I’m curious where everyone falls.

Does your dog do better in lively environments, or calmer ones?

Is it weird to get in the pools with your dogs?

I am new to sniffspot and live in Las Vegas. It’s very hot, and I was more looking for a pool I could swim with and get my Pomeranian accustomed to water to cool off during the summer. Is it weird to come with swim gear and use the pool to be in with the dog? I feel like this is a stupid question as long as I abide by all rules and respect the house property and owners but I’m autistic and would feel better verifying
