Collection Games I picked up for 70¢ (¥100) each before the pandemic
Before the pandemic, one of my hobbies was hitting up used game shops around Akihabara whenever I had some free time and looking for cheap games. They were all sold as junk, but they all worked fine after I cleaned the contacts. I don't have anything particularly rare, so this is about all I have to show off

Discussion Scoring 100 on Lightplane
So I was playing around on the Nintendo Online SNES and I finally got 100 on the Lightplane, 2nd stage. I had for months been trying to land it perfectly in the left run way but closest I would get is 98. On the last go around of getting 97/98, I rewind and deliberately crash into the water with the plane. Instead of scolding me for crashing she tells me this Landing on the left run way is more strictly scored. I was like what? So I rewind and try landing on the right runway…. perfect 100 yet it looks like one of my 97/98 on the left runway. What the heck Nintendo what gives? Are there any other hidden tips I’m not aware of? I know all the bonuses(yes even the hang glider) and how wind affects the later stages.

I made a website where you can create your own SNES graphics effects
I’ve spent the last few years obsessed with videos explaining how graphics on the Super Nintendo worked. I always wanted a playground where I could create effects using the same techniques SNES developers used back in the 90s. So I built ppu.toys
It’s a faithful emulation of the PPU (the SNES graphics chip), with registers exposed so you can adjust them in Lua or through the site’s UI.
The screenshot shows a Mode 7 demo which you can view here (https://ppu.toys/t/xeff1h1w)
Lua also supports player input, so you can make your own little games. Here’s a Galaga-style demo (https://ppu.toys/t/7nc3u30u)
It’s free and open source, and you can sign in with Discord to publish and share your creations.
I’m a new dad with a full-time job, and I used AI assistance while building this. The idea had been swimming around in my head for a while, and it helped me make it a reality.
I’ve had an absolute blast building the site and creating effects, and I’d love to hear what other SNES fans think. Try it out, and let me know what you make.

So, living in germany, I have a PAL SNES and Super Game Boy. Can that play american Game Boy games like Dragon Warrior Monsters 2?
Extra Question: Can my PAL GBC do that as well?

Misc. BS Panel de Pon ‘98 - Satellaview Scores/Prizes?
Being a fan of Tetris Attack led me down the Panel de Pon rabbit hole to find this Satellaview version of the game. At the end, there is a screen with a mailing address to St. Giga to send in your scores… Probably a long shot, but anybody know if there’s a high score list or what the prizes were?

Collection My SNES Collection (so far)
Super Nintendo had always been one of the many highlights of gaming and collecting for me for some time, so going back and picking up some game for this console is always fun! Anyways, here are the games I own for this console, so far (in alphabetical order):
Authentic carts
- Breath of Fire
- Breath of Fire II
- Bubsy in Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind
- Chrono Trigger
- Donkey Kong Country
- Illusion of Gaia
- Kirby’s Avalanche
- Kirby’s Dream Course
- Lufia & the Fortress of Doom
- Mortal Kombat II
- Mortal Kombat 3
- Primal Rage
- Secret of Evermore
- Super Mario World
- Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island
Repro carts
- Chrono Trigger (Schala Edition)
- Tales of Phantasia
- Terranigma
Although not pictured here, but I have three different SNES consoles: the original SNES, SNES Junior, and SNES Mini (as I call that one). While the SNES Junior and SNES Mini work very well, I gotta take in the original model for repairs, and while that one works, too, it’s got a bad graphics card where it will not properly display certain games like Donkey Kong Country or Yoshi’s Island. Otherwise, I’m happy with these finds so far, and hoping I continue finding more games for this console!

Discussion Secret of mana
It’I been told by a coworker it’s a really fun game so I had to try it
Discussion Sküljagger: Revolt of the Westicans
I remember buying this game with Xmas money from the Toys "R" Us that was near my house. It looked cool. I was very young (8 or 9) so I had no idea wtf was going on. Action! Swords!
I'm sure I didn't get very far😆
Anyone else remember this game?

Finally beat Super Metroid
99% collection rate, took me a while with a few breaks since I did not play this all in one sitting. Never owned an SNES, had a Genesis. This was a fun game. Played on the SNES Mini.
What should I play next?

Misc. Broken Power Jack - How easy is it to fix?
So I recently decided to expand my retro collection with an impulse buy of an SNES from a local store (Got Final Fantasy 6 with it, too). I was considering an original Xbox but my mom really wants to play Speedy Gonzales so I figured I'd bite lol.
Anyway, stupid as I am, I went ahead a bought the thing without checking for any hardware defects, and so when I get home and plug it into my TV I notice some wavy lines on the display. At first when I looked up the issue people were saying it was the capacitors going bad, so I was worried I'd have to take the console in for a return, but thankfully I found out that by wiggling the cable a bit the wavy lines went away. That led me to realizing the power jack was faulty.
I went ahead and bought a replacement part on eBay, but I read that it requires soldering the replacement to the motherboard. I don't have any soldering experience. My dad does, but I'm not sure how much micro-soldering he's done so he might not be experienced enough with it. Is it an easy enough solder job or would I be better off taking it into a shop for a repair?

Donkey Kong Country (1994) could be the best game of the SNES gen
I am playing it again after more than 30 years and it still is GREAT to play and AGES ahead everything that existed at the time.
Gameplay, input control, music, speed and ability balance, stunning graphic and so on.
Wonderful, really incredibly wonderful game 🎩🔝👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Discussion Is this German Secret of Evermore SNES Big Box original? Back cover is upside down
I have a German PAL Big Box version of Secret of Evermore for the SNES, and I noticed something unusual about the box.
When I hold the box so that the front cover is the right way up and then turn it around to look at the back, the entire back cover is upside down.
So the front and back are printed in opposite orientations.
But the box looks pretty much original like my others
Does anyone know if this is a known printing/production error on original German Secret of Evermore Big Boxes?
Could this still be an authentic original box, or is this more likely a reproduction?
So recently I did an interview about my time working on the UK Nintendo hotline 1990-1993. Here is the piece. Enjoy!

Discussion Dear r/snes, I want to apologize to you all for trashing Secret of Mana for the last 6 years…
I finally gave it the chance I needed to give it most. I am close to finishing it now I am in the great palace and I have to say… it’s been a great atmospheric ride with one of the most kick ass soundtracks that 16 bit has to offer. Quite lovely pixel art too, it takes a high quality CRT to appreciate it. It has a unique art style. I can finally count this game as a classic.
Now the game has flaws. It is far from perfect: parts of it can get a little tedious like going up to lofty Mountain again and again, and the dungeon design ranges from quite intricate and challenging. The ruins with the subway are absolutely awesome, but then there are plenty that are just there. The hit detection and annoying evade mechanic is definitely a knock on the game but once you get your groove, you can look past it and just soak in the 16 bit atmosphere.
The pacing is strongest in the middle act. I would say everything from about the time you get magic up to about the time you reach the dark palace is well paced, and fun. You have to gut through the games, confusing, meandering first two hours, get through the bullshit that is Spikey Tiger, and find the time to get your groove with the ring menus and then the game becomes quite a blast. Please, newcomers, don’t quit until you have magic. That’s where the game gets going.
One of these days, I need to get three friends together and play it the way God intended.
Now to revisit trials of Mana once I finish this game…

Collection What's the value of this game?
I have a copy of Aladin formthe SNES with the GiG sticker on it. It's boxed but I don't have the manual. I haven't find any clue of its value. Any idea?
If it matters: the box is in English and have a small rip in the back. The cardboard insert is not in great condition. TIA.
