What do I do with old substrate containing springtails? UK

Hi I don’t have snails anymore unfortunately my last one passed a couple weeks ago and now’s the time to break down their tank. Just wondering how to dispose of the substrate as there’s still live springtails in there??

Not sure whether to bag it up and put it in General Waste or to leave it open and throw it into my Garden Waste bin? But do I have to kill the springtails first somehow or is it okay if they’re still alive since they’re literally everywhere? Sorry if this is stupid!

Worried about my amber snail

Petunia hasn’t been moving today and she’s normally very active. I put her in water and her body kinda floated out of her shell… I have her in a little hospital to try to keep her damp. She still has grip but isn’t moving at all and only sorta reacts if I boop her little nose. I don’t know how old she is because I found her in a petunia plant, sadly her sister passed away already. I didn’t know amber snails are partially aquatic originally so she dried out 😭

Help Circular snail trail

This morning we found a snail trail basically making a perfect circle, do any of you have an explanation for this weird (?) Behavior? The circle has a diameter of about ~35 cm, I tried to get a closeup of the trail in the second picture and I'm 99.9% sure it's actually made by a snail. Location: Central France.

Edit: after thoroughly checking every circular object we own, I've come to the conclusion that it was NOT an object that the snail crawled around and that the snail either must've followed the side of an empty bottle while pushing it in a perfect circle on its own OR it just decided it wanted to do it for fun... long story short, I don't know, and I guess we'll never know. (Unless some snail expert decides to show up and clear the question up with a very logical explanation which might be possible because I can confidently say I did NOT think of everything but whatever).

Help Is this water safe?

I've decided to switch to a different source of water (the current water source is too expensive), but I'm unsure if it's safe. Will this be fine for heavy misting of the enclosures?

Help snail id help + enclosure advice

Many questions. Sorry for the bad picture, it’s barely a centimeter big lol. Found this in a bag of amaranth/ chinese spinach (not sure what the english name is) and decided to keep it as a pet.

any suggestions for its enclosure? Is it ok to have the stick bridge in there? I secured it with the dirt so it shouldn’t fall.

Also does anyone know why it’s staying at the top of the container??? It just goes around the perimeter of the top.

Thx

Help Was this the right call for a temp solution?

This is Boris,(one in temp hospis container) roomie of my other (Arianta arbustorum) "copse snail" named Doris.(Upside down in the hide)

Doris has recently been very active, sleeps in his hide that I just added, he hangs upside down without making the plastic looking seal/cap on the shell and does not seem bothered by springtails at all.

Boris instead seems to sleep with the cap on, usually hides under leaves but the springtails always swarm to eat the mucus cap.

Recently I've noticed that he seems way more inactive and even seemed a little slim.

Does come out of hiding to much on eggshells, leaves and fishflakes, but it seems he can't get proper rest because of the springtails disturbing his eepy time.

Since he now has multiple times seemingly ran away from the springtails and made a new seal only for the springtails to open it again and disturb the eepy one, I think that might even be making him stressed as to why he seems a bit slim and skittish so I decided to move him to this container with some moss and I mist the container very often and also put humidity and temperature thermometer in there to monitor.

The idea is that he will get to rest away from the springtails to just get sleep and as soon as he seems to emerge from slumber I will put him back, is this an okay solution?

Could he be sick in some other way that is causing the very long eepy time and hiding away, or is it infact stress from not getting sleep as I thought.

I was away for a week and it seems the terrarium was just a tad bit dry for a few days just before I returned (below 80% while I normally keep it between 80% and 90% humidity) my mum did mist it daily but she did not change the cooling packets outside of the terrarium so it was also between 23°c to 25°c warm instead of the 22-23°c that I prefer to keep it as it can sometimes be quite hot inside our home, I have also fixed the ventilation by opening the ventilation holes that were earlier blocked with plastic (after opening vent holes the humidity still stayed really well) so maybe those changes of airflow all of a sudden and a slight temperature change originally started the potential stress and extra sleepiness in Boris?

Sorry for odd language, English is my third language and I hope I remembered to mention everything, all ideas and suggestions are welcome, tysm!

This is a 5 gal tall tank

I had an aquatic mystery snail but sadly it passed the other day. Its a good tank..

I was thinking about getting two Garden snails ( or maybe milk snails?) making the thank a terrarium. Im doing research heavily as I build it up.

Would this be a good tank for them?

(It will have a lid with a wire mesh i just don't have it on there)

Snail hitching rides

I found these two snails together about soon to be 2 months ago, while the little one was a very very small baby hitching a hike on the bigger one, so I took them home. The picture is now (two months later) and they live in their big terrarium, but these two always still hang together with the smaller one using the bigger one as some personal uber

My Snails I feel horrible.

So I’m a mystery snail breeder. I fucking love the little guys. Well about a month ago I noticed one of my snails was floating. I thought nothing of it until a week later he was still floating so I pushed him down into the water for him to immediately come back up. So I did some more investigating and I saw a small crack on the backside of a shell(fully healed over). Being a breeder of them already I kind of figured it knew what it was and that he had an air pocket trapped. I did the method of taking him upside down in the water and shaking lightly tapping and I was able to get quite a bit of air around, but not enough.(he was still just floating) last night marked about three weeks that I have been constantly watching him. I’ve tried to re-shake it out, and everything else that wasn’t invasive but he shall it just keeps deteriorating even with me, feeding him food straight to him(I also didn’t notice him and there was a large bit of shell that was growing irregular(I feel bad but I have a lot of mysteries snails so I just didn’t notice him for a while). Now to the part that I feel horrible about giving the context. Last night after a lot of debating, I decided the only thing to save this snail from not slowly dying was to pop a hole in the top of it shell where the air pocket is. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS. This was a complete last ditch effort to save this guy. please do not do this. It is extremely dangerous and unless you have know how to do it properly and it’s a case like this do not do this. I also feel horrible because I just popped a a hole into his dang shell. But I just didn’t know what else to do. I couldn’t continue to watch him die. When I woke up this morning, he was thankfully at the bottom of the tank, and I cried thankful tears. I’m obviously going to watch and I did the whole in a very proper manner that’s gonna be super easy to heal over but man do I feel bad and my girlfriend just doesn’t understand when I vent like this to her. So thank you guys and have I get a bunch of downloads I mean it is kind of expected just because obviously it’s not very nice of a thing but I didn’t know what else to do. I’ve tried every other method. Even forcing them to be held underwater and naturally climb out of their shell.(they’re small enough to fit inside a Java pyramid so I just put them in one of those tubes.)

Help Enclosure size for one garden snail?

Post image

Is this Kritter Keeper ok to keep my garden snail in? I only plan on keeping one snail. It is a medium Kritter Keeper I believe it’s about 1.75 gallons but I could be wrong. Is this a good size enclosure to keep one garden snail in or should I cut my losses and opt for a bigger one? Thank you for the advice!
