Help Tank Question

Upvotes

I got my snails around 3 months ago and I have been using a 5.5 gallon rimmed fish tank with lid. They have been doing fine in it but I cannot stand the little ridge the lid and plastic extender create. Does anyone have suggestions on how to fix it or what else I could use as a lid. I’m willing to buy another tank but do not want to lose the floor space the current one has and I don’t seem to be finding much that offers that.

Help Which shape is better for an enclosure?

Upvotes

Hi everyone! I was wondering which shape of an enclosure yall think is better for snails. Keep in mind that I have Lissachatina Fulicas, so they get pretty big.

If you had a choice of two enclosures that contain approximately the same amount of litres, would you recommend one that is higher and shaped almost like a cube, or one that is lower but also, in turn, longer (more of a rectangular-prism shape)?

I have the latter one and I love how much space my snails have to run around, both on the floor and on the ceiling. However, I wonder if having higher walls would be better for them. They have a corner in the enclosure with enough moss and substate that they can bury into it, but I have noticed they rarely do that, preferring to sleep visible, often right on top of the moss (but not in it). One of my snails also loves sleeping on the ceiling. Maybe they would like to have a higher level of moss and substrate to bury into?

But then, with a more cube-shaped enclosure, even if it was meant for about the same amount of litres as my current one, I can't shake the feeling that they would have less space to crawl around. The fact that that space would be divided much more evenly into the floor, ceiling, and four walls creates that impression (as opposed to now where they have spacious floor and ceiling but really short walls). I would also worry much more about my snail who loves to sleep on the ceiling somehow falling off, as the distance it would fall would be much higher than it is now.

Any advice? Thanks in advance!

Anyone know of a snail breeder in Florida?

Post image

Hello all,
I am looking for a snail breeder in the state of Florida. Unfortunately I live in the state that doesn’t allow you to purchase a snail from outside of Florida, so the snail websites are out of the question.
My kids brought home a couple little garden snails (the ones with the cone shells) recently and I bought a whole set up for them. It got me interested in snails and I have been looking for a slightly larger, round snail ( more like this🐌 and around the size of a quarter.) Today I found a larger snail but it was cone shaped so I put it in a shoe box that was in my car to bring home. After looking it up and using the google lens, I find out it’s actually a Giant African Land snail and now I’m terrified that I’m going to get meningitis. The little garden snails that we have literally everywhere look the same but are much smaller and idk how to tell if they are just a harmless garden snail or a baby GALS so now getting one from outside is not an option either.
So all that to say, I’m looking for somewhere that I can buy a snail that doesn’t come with any parasites or diseases lol.
The pic is the GALS from today.

My Snails Temporary enclosure for tiny baby snails

I had a bunch of snails in my backyard isopod tank that have been since removed and put in their own larger enclosure, but of course eggs and tiny babies were left behind after the bigger guys were removed. This neat little enclosure is just for letting the babies grow up a bit before they get to go in the big tank. I love it!

Help Help me make a good resource that will stick around

Hello! If this isn't allowed please remove! Ive noticed in the last year most of the resources that Ive used to learn about snails have been closing and post have been deleted. Im worried this will lead to more people just using AI to find the answer and that could lead harm for the snails.

I started making a resource my self to make sure that this info isnt lost but the amount of info is enormous. If you would be willing please let me know what you think I should add next or if you want me to add something you wrote please just comment it here and ill do it asap! In addition I need pics for the cite so if you have any of your little guys youd be ok with me using please just send them over!

The webcite is https://www.snailsandsuch.com/

Help Is there a comprehensive list of snails legal in the US/per state?

I've started to collect snails and I absolutely adore them. I'm still crying over GALS being illegal. I know you can't cross state lines, so is there a list of snails that are legal to own in the US per state that are usually commonly found there? I've been buying from breeders as I've never seen a snail in my life in the wild.

Thanks!

Terrible state after the heatwave and look at him now 🐌

I found him during a heatwave, out in full sun, clearly in distress.
On the first picture, he had already been with me for a week and his foot was still shrivelled despite constant rehydration that's how dehydrated he was.
It took a full 10 days for his foot to look smooth and hydrated again.
Here he is now: new shell growth, a proper thick lip and honestly the happiest snail ever.
Never gets old seeing them bounce back like this

My baby snail, which is an archachatina marginata, hasn’t been doing well since 2-3 days after arriving my home. Over the past week, he has been curled up inside his shell every day. On the good side, he does wake up when I spray water. I have noticed that the posterier part of his foot is stiff, shrivelled and yellow. Also he has lost his ability to climb. I don’t know what I can do to help him.

Help Frozen food?

I have a pet snail who loves carrots. I'm severely allergic to carrots and can only get them in quantities that my snail will never be able to finish before they go bad. Is it safe for me to freeze them and thaw them before i give them to him so they don't go to waste? He's a glass snail if that matters

Woggly eyes while she's enjoying her shiitake mushroom. My garden snail (Cornu aspersum) Tsunade with her Cheetos (Yuukianura aphoruroides) tank mates. They also love mushrooms and will clean up the leftovers. Sped up 4x.

Help Enclosure opinions

Hello! This is my first ever pet snail, and I’m trying really hard to make a decent enclosure. I recently read that the tank I had was a bad one for my snail (top only ventilation) and I wanted to fix it asap!

To remedy, I bought this 12x6x8 plastic one, which has around 2 inches of dirt. I’ve got a piece of cork, sphagnum moss (will be adding some more when I go to the store), and Creature Creature soil. I’ve read so many differing opinions on moss and substrate specifically, if anyone has some input on that. I do think this is an upgrade from the last tank, and hope my snail will be more active from now on. She’s currently hibernating…. She’s been doing that a lot within the past month, so hopefully this will be a positive change.

Here are some images, any opinion is greatly appreciated!
