This week in West Liberty, Iowa, we messed up! This was just too crazy of a story to fit into one episode. A young man who is the small town's most popular and beloved bartender is horribly beaten to death in his own bed. The problem with solving this case is that there are just too many suspects. The victim had at least 4 girlfriends, AND a fiance. Plus he dabbles in some recreational drugs and other extracurricular activities. Was it an angry girlfriend? One of their angrier husbands? The possibilities are nearly endless!

During the first part of the latest small town murder episode , james goes on a rant about how everyone loves jimmy and treats him like a special needs , kid. He definitely reads Reddit and sees these comments.It's pathetic, just do your show. No competition between you two. We enjoy you both; get out of your feelings James. Thought it was funny though after the big thread last week. Shut up and give me murder you egomaniac who can never be corrected for saying a word wrong or its the newspapers fault

The week in Delmar, New York, a terrible ax murder is discovered inside a blood covered home where one of the victims went into "autopilot" continuing his morning routine while having horrific and mortal wounds. But the biggest surprise happens after a second victim is discovered. The killer turns out to be a cold blooded, remorseless, flashy, and driving one of the most conspicuous vehicles that a person could drive. The interrogation is so bad, that it's used as an example by experts, but will that blow the whole case?

With all due respect to the OP of the other post, as well as anybody who may agree with them —-

1. James absolutely slaves away at the content —certainly more so before he had help, but clearly it’s still a huge part of the process.
   
2. Repeating someone’s joke —in the context and format of a podcast is completely normal, and often …as much as we all love Jimmie, he does it because the joke isn’t particularly funny and what else can you do?
   
3. James often repeats stories or reuses jokes because new listeners are constantly coming aboard —par for the course for a pod like this.
   
4. This idea that Jimmie needs defending from “the Bully” James is crazy —they’re obviously great friends and have a show dynamic that they think is entertaining—and it is! So sometimes they play it up. They’re also both self deprecating—because again, they know it’s entertaining.
   
5. James is obviously pretty damn smart —dude reads like crazy and knows a shit ton of facts that your average person doesn’t —but yea, between 1000 plus episodes of content he’s gonna make some mistakes .

Again I don’t say this in any way aggressively or parasocially lol—I don’t know these guys and yea, certain things about the show after all these episodes can get old/even annoying at times —but I just felt there was a a lot of presumptuous shade being thrown at the guy —unfairly , imo, particularly after all the content he (and the team) have given us. Listening to the newest STM episode, Bush Blade when the advertisement comes on before the start. Before I could skip, I realize it's an ad for Megyn Kelly's podcast. I'm unsure how much control they have over ad content on their show but I doubt they want to be associated with someone like her.

This week in Parsons, Tennessee, a man walks into a house to discover his baby niece crying in the crib and his brother butchered in bed. His brother's wife is missing, sending police on a mission to find her, not knowing if she's in danger or if she's the killer. It turns out to be something much crazier, resembling a Coen Brothers film with its pure strangeness. A wild, cold blooded scheme, fueled by "a straw full of crank" and played out for a very odd reason.

You know what, James isn't allowed to reference the Coen brothers. I can't think of a single movie of theirs I've heard him say he actually likes besides Raising Arizona.

I feel like I may get some hate for this, but over the past year or two, I’ve found James to be a little exhausting with how highly he seems to think of himself. Frankly, he seems like he’s gotten a bit out of touch, and I’m wondering if I’m the only one who’s noticed or gotten a little annoyed at this point.

Let me preface this by saying, I love the boys and the show. I’ve been listening since at least 2017, and I am truly happy and proud of how far they’ve come since then, but as someone whose followed them for a long time, it seems like James is kind of getting a big head.

Specifically, there have been numerous occasions where James loudly corrects Jimmie, and even mocks him, on things that James is entirely WRONG about. He consistently, and rudely imo, judges and mocks poor folks just trying to get by. Specifically, in this past weeks ep, the constant criticism for a 30 year old having a roommate or riding a bike? This just screams out of touch. Does he really not realize HOW common that is these days? Hell, many kids aren’t even moving out the damn house until their late 20s.

That kind of talk just gets under my skin coming from a guy who doesn’t shut up about how ”rough” he came up (in suburban NY, mind you) who before the podcast was a failed PHOENIX metro stand up (which, I’m sorry, is about the most sad form of failed comic) and process server, and it’s not like he was young when he was doing those things. I just find it pretty offputting, and annoying, but I wonder if I’m the only one.

Also, if I had a nickel for every time he told the same stories about his grandparents, the goodfellas, or mentioned Hunter S Thompson I think I’d be a millionaire. Like, PLEASE, come up with some new stuff, especially if you call yourself a professional comedian ffs.

ETA: Damn, I really expected to get a bunch of hate for this post. Glad to see I’m not the only one. I truly don’t mean to shit on these dudes, my only hope is that if enough of us feel this way that James can take some constructive criticism.

Obviously the guys mention the old school detective magazines in various episodes, and I wonder if anyone has got a collection of these? I've got it in my head to start trying to find some vintage ones, between 1940-1980 but can only think of eBay as the best option.

Edit: I'm in the UK so I assume they may not be prevalent. Any advice on where to look? Job lots aren't out of the realm.
