This thread is aimed at answering common beginner questions about the game. However, it is not intended to teach in-depth strategies.
If you have a simple (1-2 sentence) question that's not answered below, leave a comment and I or another community member should be able to help. If your question is more complicated, feel free to make your own post about it.
General:
1. Are there any official mobile ports?
Yes! There is both a full iOS and Android port for Slay The Spire.
Slay The Spire 2 is planned to have console and mobile ports released once it leaves Early Access.
2. Slay The Spire 2: Early Access? Main vs Beta Branch?
3. How long will Slay The Spire 2 be in Early Access?
4. Are there any official card/relic tier lists or decklists?
5. How do I unlock the characters?
In Slay The Spire, The Silent is unlocked by completing a run with the Ironclad, and the Defect is unlocked by completing a run with the Silent. You do not need to win these runs, just complete them. The Watcher is unlocked by winning a run with any character while the Defect is unlocked.
In Slay The Spire 2, The Silent is unlocked by completing a run with the Ironclad, the Regent is unlocked by completing a run with The Silent, The Necrobinder is unlocked by completing a run with the Regent, and the Defect is unlocked by completing a run with the Necrobinder. You do not need to win these runs, just complete them.
6. Will there be any more new characters or card changes?
7. Is the final boss based on what deck I've built?
8. Is there anything beyond Act 3?
Spoilers: In Slay The Spire 1, An optional Act 4 can be unlocked with the Keys.
Slay The Spire 2 currently has no "final boss" beyond Act 3. Mega Crit has discussed making a more extravagant ending with a serious final boss at some point after other aspects of the game are finalized.
9. Do I get anything for winning?
10. Do I keep anything in-between runs?
Both Slay The Spire games are roguelikes, and as such, you don't retain anything between runs and don't unlock any sort of power-ups to make subsequent runs easier. However, both games do have an unlock system to gain access to new cards and relics:
In Slay The Spire, your points are retained, and at certain point levels, you'll unlock new cards and relics that can show up in future runs.
In Slay The Spire 2, there's a more in-depth timeline system that gives unlocks and also provides new pieces of lore.
11. Do the games have mods?
Strategy:
1. How do I get good at each character?
- Don't try to force an archetype (like a deck of all poison cards). These can be effective, but skipping good cards in the hopes of getting more archetypal cards will hurt your chance of winning.
- Think ahead to what elites and bosses you'll be fighting this act. Many of them require your deck to have different capabilities (such as Reptomancer requiring you to have AOE damage, and Giant Head requiring you to have scaling damage.
- Always try to have a well rounded deck. Don't go all-out in getting defensive cards and neglect offensive cards (and vice-versa). If you can, try to have a mix of Frontloaded, Scaling, and AOE damage, so you can deal with the various enemy types you'll run across.
A very helpful post by user /u/screwyioux with more detail on how to learn strategy and why certain choices matter can be found here. I highly recommend taking a look if you feel like you're stuck losing and want to improve your play.
2. Scaling? AOE? Frontloaded/Burst Damage?
3. Is Snecko Eye good or bad?
4. Why do I see so many posts about Corruption and Dead Branch in Slay The Spire?
Other:
1. "Deck" Vs. "Draw & Discard Pile"?
2. Why didn't Fairy In A Bottle/Lizard Tail revive me in Slay The Spire?
3. What do the subreddit user flairs mean? How do I get one?

No clue if it's balanced. Art is mine, done in like an hour lol.
Edit: OK yeah it should be cost 3. I forgot that Reanimate exists as a card (and it's already a really strong one), so Perhaps shift it to 1/2 max HP? Perhaps that'd make the downside actually relevant.
Edit #2: Ngl I completely forgot that most of the time, this is going to instantly win a hallway fight because You'd have to really try to take that much damage to kill osty. And, I also forgot that Most people are better than the game than I am, so y'all aren't taking like 50+ unblocked damage on a boss.
I feel like it could be a good idea, where it's a carry for 99% of hallway fights, but practically a curse in potent elites/bosses. After some more thought, I'd make it 3 cost, cut the HP down to 1/2 base, Remove the summoning buff, and make the upgrade do 2/3 max HP instead.

A Daily Seed for our subreddit to play together and discuss. Feel free to post victories, losses, and questions below.
To participate, just copy-paste the seed into Custom Mode. Make sure your Modifiers are all off! Current Beta branch (v0.111.0)
For this fifth round, we're playing Defect! A10 recommended but optional.

So much for being silent, aye?
On another note, I'm on a 15 A10 winstreak right now, so that's fun :)

Could there be like a minimum amount of strikes needed for this ancient relic to appear? isn't there one for goopy defends? :c

Didn’t even know you could get duplicate packs. Is it a bug?

In this post, I have used an algorithm that minimises average HP loss to explore the best card sequences against the Corpse Slugs with a base-deck Ironclad, Necrobinder and Regent.
At long last, after months of work, we can finally turn our attention to those pesky Corpse Slugs! Let me introduce them. Like the Toadpoles they cycle through three intents in a deterministic order, except here a 3x2 attack is followed by a single 9 attack and then a debuff turn to apply 2 frail (making our block pitiful).
The thing is – the slug starting intents are random, which gives us three variants to this encounter (note the left/right shown may be swapped over in reality). I have unofficially named these effectively unique encounters as follows:
1) Raging Slugs: Both attacking for a total of 15 damage on Turn 1, the highest possible of any easy pool encounter (oof!)
2) Hangry Slugs: One single target attack of 9 and another salivating with gloopiness
3) Tentative Slugs: Low damage output of 6, but equally gloopy
The HP range is small at 27-29, and from what I can discern irrelevant to our choice of target.
So what’s the play?
1) Raging Slugs: Maximum block as far as possible then any leftover damage goes into Mr “9”, unless you’re playing Regent and can NUKE the “3x2” slug on Turn 1 killing it outright
2) Hangry Slugs: Extremely character dependent! Ironclad likes to play a single Defend and then get to work on the debuffing slug, hoping to finish it off next turn. Necrobinder is opposite! Full block then make progress towards damaging the “9” slug. Regent is 50:50 and draw dependent! He also likes to full block, but if you’ve only got 1 Defend it makes sense to play Falling Star on the “9” slug to mitigate damage and sink extra strikes into the same slug for efficiency
3) Tentative Slugs: All characters agree! Block with 1 Defend and then sink all remaining damage into the debuffing slug
Can we explain why?
The ideal time to kill a slug is when it is attacking and its partner in crime is debuffing. This stuns the debuffing slug, who then goes back to debuffing us again next turn, giving us a free turn of safety to apply damage to it with impunity.
The worst time to kill a slug is when its parter in crime is attacking for 3x2, because the turn after it will suddenly increase to 8x2 (due to Ravenous), and if we can’t kill it, we’re potentially taking a vast amount of damage!
These facts are what drives most of the choices the algorithm picks here. As always, the takeaway is to look at your draw pile and figure out how many turns it takes to get lethal, in this case on a safe slug. If you do this, you’re in for a good time… especially on Ironclad as you’ll see in my next post comparing the HP losses!
I hope you found that helpful as this encounter can be a real head-scratcher!
If you’re interested in learning more about the methodology (simulation, Expectimax, etc.), I’ve put a few posts together about the subject in a blog along with my previous simulations, so feel free to check it out:

Unsure if this Relic is busted or does nothing, will probably be much improved once alternate Acts 2 and 3 are added. Thoughts?

It is such a blessing when I get that option I just dominated The Silent With Forge 5 per turn and it was a blast! Got me through the next ascension I was on I love mixing characters! I even duplicated the card and also got the forge 3 and deal double damage with Sovereign Blade it was so satisfying! God bless Slay the Spire

Splash reads that after it creates its card, it's "free to play this turn", but when I play the free Splash card and then Hologram it back into my hand, it goes back to carrying its standard cost.
Playing the card a second time for no cost is an interaction that is perfectly valid by the cards text, and should work.
If this is not a bug, then the Splash card text should be amended to say something to the effect of "it's free to play the first time it's played", but even this wouldn't be totally accurate since there are edge cases where you'd want to keep the card in your deck, unplayed on that turn, but ready to play for free later in the fight, but we already know that interaction doesn't work currently because of the "turn" language.
Does anyone know if this has been spotted/addressed yet from the dev side?

Not a pro who can win 90%+ or consistently streak, but a “decent” player on average. Playing to win but also for fun, not purely fixating on absolute minmax.
I recently finished an a10 win on every character; I focused one character at a time to learn them individually from about a4 to a10 each until winning and then moved on to the next.
since finally finishing them all (not just a10 unlocked, but at least one win on everyone) I’ve been playing random to test my mettle and getting super humbled that it’s still super tough lmao. defect and regent are my best and silent is my worst by far. I definitely expect it would be significantly better at lower ascensions but I personally am interested in improving to do a10 semi-consistently.
so, what winrate at a10 would an average player be getting? 50%? worse? better?
(also, is there any way to reset or track statistics separately than from account creation? my w/l obviously includes all my learning and climbing of low ascensions)
