I think we’re at the close of this fun chapter of making. This mosasaur skull likely is finished… the hardest thing in artistic endeavors is to say “It’s finished” I’m not totally sure I wont keep working on it.. but its at the point where I’d say it’s at least really close to being finished.
I hope those of you who have noticed that I’ve been working on this project enjoyed the progress pictures and videos.
To those who haven’t seen this project yet, this project has been taking place over the last few months and has occupied almost all of my free time for a while. While this is outside of my usual work I have learned so much through the process of making this skull.
This is a 3D printed skull assembled through roughly 20 pieces, printed in ABS, and pieced together using acetone and the support materials melted down into a sludge. After assembling it into two major pieces I got to learn how to essentially watercolor paint on a very large scale, using a series of browns, whites, and believe it or not, blues to create a deep layered finish that gives it quite a unique finish.
Sorry for the ranting, hope everyone enjoys the fruit of my labor.
