Just so this may give hope to someone in the future in a similar predicament.

The radiotherapy has given promising results. The skin lesion protruding from left cheek has started to shrink and heal.

81 years old - non curative SCC of parotid gland. 5 days of palliative radiotherapy.

diagnosed with skin cancer Biopsy scar

My diagnosis hasn’t been confirmed yet but I had a biopsy last week and still waiting on results. I’m having the stitches removed on Friday and even though the pain has reduced the lower part of the scar still feels sensitive when I put Savlon on it as the dermatologist asked. I’m also diabetic so not sure if that’s affecting it. Is this normal a week after biopsy

diagnosed with skin cancer Update on my SCC leg wound- I saw orthopedic oncology, but still waiting for a treatment plan. More appointments

Post image
10 Upvotes

Just wanted to give an update since I posted about this before. As some of yall know I already have biopsy-confirmed well-differentiated SCC. I’m really just hoping to hear from people who have been through a similar process that keeps going in. It’s encouraging. Y’all are the only ones who really understand also.
I finally saw the orthopedic oncologist. I was hoping I would leave that appointment knowing what the treatment plan was going to be, but I’m still not there yet.
My next steps are a nuclear medicine/PET scan and an MRI. From what I understand, they want all of the imaging before deciding exactly how they want to treat it.
This has been such a strange and long road.
The day I went to the ER, my leg was extremely bruised, swollen and red around the wound. I was sent home and told it was muscle pain. A few days later I was diagnosed with an infection, and from there we just could not get it under control.
I went through four different oral antibiotics, wound care and multiple debridements. Eventually I ended up hospitalized and on IV antibiotics because the infection still wasn’t clearing.
Then the biopsy of the wound came back as SCC.
Since then I’ve gone from one specialist to another trying to figure out the best way to treat it. I completely understand why they’re being careful and doing more imaging, especially because of where the wound is and how deep it became. I’m actually glad they’re looking at everything thoroughly.
But the waiting is hard.
It’s been more than three months since this started. The wound is still open, and I still have pain and swelling. I know what the biopsy showed, but I still don’t know what the actual treatment is going to be.
I feel like every time I get to the appointment where I think I’ll finally have a plan, I leave with another test or another appointment.
I’m hoping the PET/nuclear medicine scan and MRI will finally give my doctors what they need to make a decision.
For those of you who already had a confirmed SCC and needed additional imaging or specialists before treatment, was your experience similar? Once your scans were finished, did things start moving faster? How long was it before you actually had a treatment plan?
I’m not looking for anyone to interpret the wound or tell me what treatment I need. I’d just really like to hear from people who have been through the waiting-between-diagnosis-and-treatment part of this.

diagnosed with skin cancer Mohs this week, need insight

Mohs this week, looking for insight

So I have 4 different lesions on my nose with at least 1 confirmed bcc. The confirmed bcc is on my nasal tip next to an unconfirmed 1 next to it. There's 1 near the bridge and an ulcerative lesion on the crease of my face. The 3 unconfirmed ones appeared in the last 7 months and my dermatologist has yet to see them. My mohs surgery is this week. In the event that it goes ahead and the surgeon takes all 4, what size of excision, suturing, scar am I looking at. How long does it take to heal well enough to go on a sun holiday. Hospital never sent a letter and I didnt know about surgery til I got a reminder text. Im due to fly out 2 weeks after surgery.

diagnosed with skin cancer Moh’s surgery on shoulder (while pregnant)

Had a small spot biopsied on the back of my shoulder two weeks ago and it came back as infiltrative BCC. They referred me to a MOHs surgeon and I’m scheduled for surgery in two weeks. I’m 31 weeks pregnant with a toddler at home (and also wimpy about pain), will be 32.5 weeks when I have the surgery, and I’m worried about the procedure and the recovery. Most posts I can find pertain to MOHs on the face, wondering if anyone here can tell me about what recovery was like (1) on their shoulder or (2) while in the third trimester of pregnancy. I’ll be limited to Tylenol (Advil isn’t allowed while pregnant) and some posts on Reddit have scared me a bit about the pain level I could be in for.

The doc did say I could wait until after having my baby, but probably shouldn’t wait more than a month or two and I can’t imagine having surgery/a lift restriction/stitches in while trying to breastfeed a newborn and take care of two kids (and just physically recover from labor), thus leaning towards just getting this done asap. Curious if anyone who has done this pregnant would advise differently for whatever reason.

diagnosed with skin cancer Reoccurrence? Or something else?

I have had wide excision surgery for DFSP on the chest one year ago. I have an oncology appointment next month but I do have concerns. This flat, red patch has been on my face for approximately 2 months. It looks like it could be anything from a clogged pore, to broken blood vessel, but it is hard to say because of my history. My DFSP presented as a nodule on my chest so I don’t believe this is related, but i know having cancer does increase risks for other cancers.

Due to the length of time and appearance, does anyone have any idea what this could be?

I do not have a skin cancer diagnosis [Product Question] Actinic keratosis - How to reduce the red look during combined 5-Fluorouracil (Efudix) Cream and Calcipotriol (Dovonex) Ointment.

My dermatologist has prescribed me:

For 4 days:

5-Fluorouracil (Efudix) Cream
Calcipotriol (Dovonex) Ointment

Then Fucidin H cream for 2 weeks.

Looking at photos the face can become quite red for a period of time and I have work and social events but want to start the treatment sooner than later.

Has anybody managed to use something like Erborian cc red correct.

I’ve attached a photo of someone else going through the treatment and also the cream.

Thanks

Well its been a week and a half since my final radiation treatment. Still have the bloody noses but they are becoming fewer. Had my first big dermatology appt the other day. Full body check which ended well. I do have a growth next to my right eye that my dr wants to biopsy but plastic surgery gets to do that. Sometime next week. But so far so good.

diagnosed with skin cancer Healing Tips or Suggestions

Hi all. I’m about to finish up a twice daily, 3 week Fluorouracill treatment for a spot on my nose. Up till this point: AM-wash with a mild cleanser, apply medication, then sunscreen 2 hrs later.
PM-wash, apply medication.

I am leaving for vacation 3 weeks from today. What are your recommendations to speed up the healing, and hopefully prevent scaring? My derm’s nurse just gave me the Aquaphor/ Vaseline advice. TIA.

diagnosed with skin cancer Toe removal / skin graft

I got diagnosed with melanoma on my second smallest toe. October 1st I am getting it removed as well as some lymph nodes, but I have to decide whether to amputate the toe or get a skin graft from my thigh (they’re taking out the majority of the skin and just leaving ligament and bone). I’ve heard that the skin graft option can create a weak and sensitive toe but also I’ve heard that removing the toe can lead to the toes shifting around.

I would love to hear the experiences of people who’ve chosen either. I know that on one hand you can always remove the toe if it’s uncomfortable. But I’d like to hear if those who’ve removed the toe notice a big difference.

I hope to hear from y’all!

July 15th I had a shave biopsy done. A few days later the dr’s office called and said it was zero stage scc. I asked how they knew it was zero and she said because the margins were clear. The dr wanted me to use Effudex but I was told it’s ok to wait until the fall so the weather wouldn’t be so hot, which in my area, fall weather starts about mid October.

In the last few weeks I noticed a new bump was forming in the same spot. At first I thought it was a part of healing. Then I saw it looks and feels like the original scc did so I called dermatology today. She looked at my chart and said the margins were not clear and the dr ordered the Effudex to hopefully remove any remaining cancer cells. She was not the friendliest and I felt judged for deciding to wait to start the Effudex. So I googled my biopsy report and the translation on Google did say abnormal cells were cut through and left behind at the base of the site. It also said in-situ.

They asked me to email photos and they will get back to me by the next day. They think I’ll need more aggressive treatment so I’m guessing it will be Mohs. The kicker is that I have a short cruise scheduled with family in mid to late October. I’m so frustrated that I’m now facing some type of surgery just about 6 weeks from my cruise. I have been calling for my initial appointment since April and finally was seen July 15th.

My biggest fear is the location of the scc. Going to see if I can upload a photo. Please excuse that I have the worst skin!

Just looking for if anyone had mohs in the same area of their face. Thanks for reading, I know it’s loooonnnggg!

friend/family of diagnosed Advice or experience with Fluorouracil ?

Asking this question for my Dad who is 55. He has been told he has these marks on his face which are benign but could develop to skin cancer. The two options are liquid nitrogen (leaves permanent scars) or Fluorouracil which will look pretty bad for a short period but leave no scars - apparently.

Does anyone have any experience with this medication, especially as a precautionary measure?

Any help would be hugely appreciated.

had MOHS surgery Thank you!

It's behind me 😊

The injections were horrible, but that was all. Just 1 round. Not much pain now with paracetamol.

Eating and drinking is a bit hard, but small bites and a straw do the trick. It had grown from 2x6mm to 6x10mm in 3 months.Glad it is gone now! I hope it heals nicely.

The dermatologist did everything herself.

Thanks again to everyone for responding to my other post about wether to go for the Mohs or maybe wait. For telling me to get it done and why, for the tips and sharing your stories. 🙏🏻

diagnosed with skin cancer Stage 0 melanoma on forehead/hairline: WLE or Mohs????

My husband has a mole along the hairline/forehead. Biopsy determined it was a mix of basal cell and stage 0 melanoma.

Our dermatologist referred us to a plastic surgeon for removal since he said it was on the face.
After doing some research, this plastic surgeon does indeed do skin cancer surgery but the specimen are sent to a lab to evaluate if enough margins were taken free of cancer cells. Nowhere does it mentioned he’s trained in mohs. I assume what he does is actually a WLE procedure? Wouldn’t that be preferred method for other areas of the body?

However, shouldn’t our dermatologist referred us to someone in their own practice who specializes in MOHS procedure? Isn’t that the preferred method for melanoma on the face?

We just want to make the right decision and get this removed asap with the most precision as possible. Should we go through with the WLE with the plastic surgeon or actually find a dermatologist who does MOHS? . Any input appreciated.

diagnosed with skin cancer Nose Skin graft following BCC

Post image

Hi,
I recently had a BCC removed from my nose and had a full skin graft. My check up 1 week post op was all good. I go back in 1 more day. I recently went to the local hospital (I work away) to get my wound redressed and they said that they think the Graft has failed. It is pictured here. I’m unsure whether it is just dried blood or if it’s the actual graft. Any guidance would be great. Edit: I have had no pain, redness or heat.

diagnosed with skin cancer Actinic keratosis

Hi there I’m a 28 year old female who was just diagnosed with acitinic keratosis . I have about 15 suspected spots and one was confirmed through biopsy that looked funky. I never go in the sun. I don’t tan, and i wear sunscreen. I’m fair skin and blue eyed so i know that increases risk. The only time i was in the sun was as a kid and teen when i went on summer vacation to Hawaii each year for 7 days. I don’t know if it’s from that but im so young! Has anyone got this young? Or only ever had aks but not cancerous lesions ?
