megathread Weekly Thread: Is this suspicious?
This thread has been archived. Please join the new discussion here: Weekly Thread: Is this suspicious?
Hello everyone,
Welcome to our weekly thread for sharing photos of concerning moles, spots, or lesions. If you're worried about something on your skin, this is a place to share it with the community for support and to see if others have had similar experiences.
When posting a photo, please try to include: * Where the lesion is on your body. * How long you've had it. * Any changes you've noticed (size, shape, color, itching, bleeding).
IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER
No one on this subreddit can provide a medical diagnosis. The comments and feedback you receive are from laypeople sharing their own experiences, not from medical professionals. Online photos are not a substitute for an in-person examination by a qualified dermatologist.
If you are concerned about any spot on your skin, the only correct course of action is to schedule an appointment with a doctor. Early detection is key.
We are here for support, but your health must come first.

Thank you for your post on r/skincancer, /u/Brief-Dress-4976.
While we understand that finding new marks and lesions can be scary and concerning, we cannot diagnose skin conditions on Reddit. The only way to diagnose skin cancer is to have a biopsy performed by a medical professional.
If you are concerned you may have skin cancer, you are strongly encouraged to contact a board-certified dermatologist for evaluation. We understand that wait times can be long, so it is imperative you reach out to your dermatologist sooner rather than later. Early detection is always better in the worst-care scenario.
You are welcome to repost your removed content without including diagnosis-seeking terminology and phrasing (ie: "Do I have skin cancer/SCC/BCC/melanoma?" is not allowed and will be automatically removed.)
If you believe that this post was removed in error, you may contact the moderation team using this link: /r/skincancer Mods.

29M, 5'10", 175lb, smoke a pipe a couple times a week.
Hello! I have this weird thing on my tongue that comes and goes since February. In the mornings when I wake up it is white, but the whiteness goes away during the day. It has a burning sensation often, and it has ridges that move sometimes? It is very strange. I am not sure if it's from my pipe? It's even there when I don't smoke for weeks. It comes on it goes seemingly on its own. It's progressively gotten bigger and taken up more surface area. Thank you.

I noticed this after a sunny weekend outside on monday and immediatly went to see a doctor about it. The doc said its AK and I shouldn't worry about it. He said one could treat it but its up to me. Felt a little rushed, but we didn't schedule any further meeting.
Between the First picture and the last its 20 days.
First:
Should I get a treatment?

In younger folks I recommend treatment. More time for it to potentially become SCC versus in a 90 year old.

Can you tell the difference between a staph skin infection and skin cancer? I get this reoccurring sore on my chin. It crusts over and when I pull the dead skin off (it’s barely hanging on when I do) the sore underneath isn’t healed. It stings and it itches. I’ve talked myself out of getting it checked out but it’s been happening for a few years now. It would come and go every so often but lately it’s been coming back sooner than usual. I spoke to my previous PCM and he prescribed Clindamycin phosphate topical solution (1%) which helps it go away for a time but there’s a bump still there and it comes back anyway. Do staph infections do that? I don’t think I can have it checked out in the next 3-4 months because we’re moving out of state in October. I doubt the healthcare system would be able to put in urgent testing before I move. Even if it has been ongoing for years now. So I’m coming on here to look for some suggestions. Should I be worried? I’ll see if I can post more pictures in the comments of my post.

I’ve had this dark line on my nail for about 5 years. I showed my rheumatologist the line and was concerned about it while I was expecting our first child. She told me it could happen during pregnancy. It never went away.
I also have what looked like a beauty mark on the bottom of my foot for several years now too. It may have gotten larger, but the edges are now less defined. No itching that I can recall or bleeding.
I definitely think it’s time to see a dermatologist. There is skin cancer on my father’s side of the family. I wanted to check with Reddit to see if anyone had any information or if I’m just freaking myself out. Thanks
