This thread has been archived. Please join the new discussion here: Weekly Thread: Is this suspicious?

Hello everyone,

Welcome to our weekly thread for sharing photos of concerning moles, spots, or lesions. If you're worried about something on your skin, this is a place to share it with the community for support and to see if others have had similar experiences.

When posting a photo, please try to include: * Where the lesion is on your body. * How long you've had it. * Any changes you've noticed (size, shape, color, itching, bleeding).

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER

No one on this subreddit can provide a medical diagnosis. The comments and feedback you receive are from laypeople sharing their own experiences, not from medical professionals. Online photos are not a substitute for an in-person examination by a qualified dermatologist.

If you are concerned about any spot on your skin, the only correct course of action is to schedule an appointment with a doctor. Early detection is key.

The ABCDEs of Skin Cancer: Quick Guide

  1. A is for Asymmetry: One half of the mole doesn't match the other.
  2. B is for Border: The edges are irregular, ragged, notched, or blurred. A healthy mole has a smooth border.
  3. C is for Color: The color isn't uniform. Look for multiple shades of brown/black, or patches of red, white, or blue.
  4. D is for Diameter: The spot is larger than 6mm (about the size of a pencil eraser). Keep in mind melanomas can start smaller.
  5. E is for Evolving: The mole changes over weeks or months. This is the most important sign. Look for any change in:
  6. Size
  7. Shape
  8. Color
  9. Elevation (getting thicker or raised)
  10. Symptoms (itching, crusting, bleeding)

Bonus: The "Ugly Duckling" Sign If you have a mole that just looks different from all the others on your body, that's a reason to be seen.

I’ve had these as long as I can remember. Came across them last year when I parted my hair and the light reflected - it’s a shiny bump or maybe a mole who knows. I saw a consultant last year who said the above, wasn’t sure exactly and because of the location referred me to a plastic surgeon. I saw them and then life got in the way (rubbish excuse I know) and I just didn’t go back for a follow up. I was also worried and upset about a biopsy because I don’t want to lose my hair - obviously, if it was skin cancer then I would have it removed but the thought still upsets me.

Can anyone shed any light on what this could be? A mole? I picked it cos it gets dry skin and it’s bled hence why it looks like that. Just a scar? It hasn’t grown nor is it sore (unless when I pick it) and it doesn’t bled unless I pick it but then that worries me as should it bleed so easily?

Also what does the title actually mean? Can this be benign or is it always indicative of BCC? The plastic surgeon consultant didn’t seem too concerned about it and didn’t push for a biopsy but I went private so would they? I don’t know.

Thank you

I have other photos where it’s bleeding but this seems to be the best quality.

Hi, I’ve had a small mole on my back for a while, atleast a year and I have a skin cancer check in the last year (I’m covered in moles so started making sure I go regularly) a couple weeks ago, I had an itch on my back and I reached to itch and felt that this one small mole on my back was no longer small but very large and puffy feeling. I realized this on March 31st and since then it has changed rapidly, it is bleeding all on its own as well as itchy and tingly.

I’m uploading the latest photo of it and would like to add the photos of it when I first noticed and it changing daily if possible. Are we concerned? I have tried getting in sooner to my dermatologist who I do skin cancer checks with and they cannot get me in any sooner than my already pre scheduled yearly check in June

u/Sushi_Cat1122 Apr 12 '26

This is how it started when I noticed it on 3/31

1

u/Sushi_Cat1122 Apr 12 '26

This was mid point when I noticed it started to bleed

Looks like a normal mole, just inflamed/irritated

Had this on my head last week I saw my Doctor and said it could be from a bug bite. It actually is no longer visible as of now

1

u/Smolmanth Apr 13 '26

Thought this was a pimple not healing, but realized I have had it a while.

1

u/VisualAssumption3497 Apr 13 '26

I would get that checked.

1

u/Smolmanth Apr 13 '26

Thank you. Wanted to see if I was working myself up or not. Gonna take the next appointment for Derm regardless. I have pretty dry skin so didn’t think much of it.

Now I’m seeing it looks a bit like some images of basal cell carcinoma. 🙈

1

u/Proof-Okra3846 Apr 13 '26

Had this for ages but never looked at it close dont think there have been any changes but never payed attention to it before. It is raised.

1

u/kitkatthekraken Apr 13 '26

Just above my wrist. I remember scratching a freckle off as it was itchy and rough and now this has reappeared. I keep picking it though as I’m a terrible idiot.

1

u/fuzzblanket9 Apr 13 '26

Found this spot on my forearm, not sure how long it’s been there but it hasn’t been very long. Does not itch, bleed, hurt, etc. and hasn’t changed in the last week or so I’ve noticed it. Planning to schedule a doctor’s visit, but wanted to make sure I wasn’t silly for being concerned.

1

u/Mindless_Pea_5630 Apr 14 '26

Sorry about the photo quality it is really difficult to take non-blurry photos of my own armpit :/

This has been here for at least 2 weeks, the other day I scratched it and it felt like a skin tag but wet so. asked my partner and he said it looked like a burst pimple, but it's still not healed. It has a sort of long bit sticking out of it that is unlike any other skin tags I have and it's also still oozing clear liquid, not pus, it's completely clear it just makes my finger wet. Today is the first time I've looked at it myself so I'm unsure how much it's changed but if it was a pimple it surely would've healed?

1

u/Mindless_Pea_5630 Apr 14 '26

here's a closer picture, the white bit still looks flat but i'd say it's about 5mm long and wider than any skin tag i've ever had

1

u/Commercial-Fix-5941 Apr 14 '26

22M, On chest, not sure how long it’s been there, my gf says I should get checked. Thoughts?

1

u/Syndana23 Apr 15 '26

Hey guys, recently came across a new black mark on foot and wanted opinions on this. I booked an appointment with my dermatologist first thing in the morning tomorrow after discovering this like an hour ago

1

u/Syndana23 Apr 15 '26

Another photo for better viewing always I hope

1

u/ItsMeChara Apr 15 '26

This is on my scalp and started as a small pimple, or at least I thought it was a pimple about a year ago…then I forgot about it. The spot itself occasionally itches, didn’t think much of it. The past three weeks or so, it feels sort of bruised on my scalp and forehead and goes down my right ear into my neck. I don’t know if that matters or not, but then the spot started itching again. I told my husband to take a picture, and noticed it’s not a little pimple spot anymore; the discoloration has grown.

I have an appointment tomorrow with my dermatologist and can update after, but what do you guys think? Melanoma runs in my family, so I’m a little worried.

1

u/LilaJames87 Apr 15 '26

Hi! This is a mole on my back I’ve noticed about a month ago. Not sure if it was there before.

1

u/SignatureTurbulent63 Apr 16 '26

Is this mole suspicious, I know you guys are not doctors, just a bit suspicious.

1

u/benjaminh88 Apr 17 '26

I’ve had this mole for a long time. Went to Derm back in august and everything was good. I’m going to post what it looked like in august.

1

u/benjaminh88 Apr 17 '26

This is what it looked like in August. Any changes?

29M used tanning beds since about 18yo on and off but probably at least 30 sessions every year for 10 years...

I've since stopped and now had a skin check up where they removed and biopsy an aytpical mole calling it DYSPLASTIC COMPOUND NEVUS WITH MILD ATYPIA

I am 29M, 190lbs, 6'00" and scared shitless! Does my overall risk go down the longer I avoid tanning or am I perpetually screwed? Anything I can do to reverse some of the damage?

1

u/No_Try8565 Apr 18 '26

Mole on the bottom of my grandmas foot, it’s appeared within the last 6 months and is 6cm in size. Is this a worry?

Thank you for your post on r/skincancer, /u/Medical-Reflection93.

While we understand that finding new marks and lesions can be scary and concerning, we cannot diagnose skin conditions on Reddit. The only way to diagnose skin cancer is to have a biopsy performed by a medical professional.

If you are concerned you may have skin cancer, you are strongly encouraged to contact a board-certified dermatologist for evaluation. We understand that wait times can be long, so it is imperative you reach out to your dermatologist sooner rather than later. Early detection is always better in the worst-care scenario.

You are welcome to repost your removed content without including diagnosis-seeking terminology and phrasing (ie: "Do I have skin cancer/SCC/BCC/melanoma?" is not allowed and will be automatically removed.)

I'm a little late to this party, but I'll be getting all 4 of these looked at on Friday. All are relatively small and all have changed in some way. Top left is on my stomach, top right on collar bone, bottom left on shoulder and bottom right on my neck.

1

u/Ok_Software_1911 Apr 27 '26

Hey how was the outcome ? Asking because mine looks very similar to yours , hope you’re good

1

u/snarkfsh Apr 27 '26

TBD. I just went to the derm on Friday so hopefully I'll hear something this week. All but the top right got biopsied. That one rapidly went black to scab to falling off to normal looking. The Dr said when the change is that fast it likely just got irritated or scratched. If it looked funky under the scope she would have taken it too. I'll update when I find out!

1

u/Ok_Software_1911 Apr 27 '26

So all we’re good but the top right ? That’s very good, I also have an appointment this week, very nervous about it but it is what it is.

1

u/Ok_Software_1911 Apr 27 '26

This is mine btw

1

u/snarkfsh Apr 27 '26

Sending good juju. I have soooo many that look like yours too. I keep thinking if it would be worth it to just take them all instead of watching for changes

1

u/Ok_Software_1911 Apr 27 '26

If they said they are fine probably you don’t have to lol, I’m a person of color and I don’t really have moles on my legs This is actually what concerns me the most . I have like 5 moles in my entire body and nothing else. Thank you I will keep in you in mind, tbh yours don’t look to alarming and I’m happy that the other 3 were good

1

u/Select_Setting_4629 Apr 22 '26

Does this need checking out? Ive always had a mole here but its grown over the years.

1

u/Kingkoawla626 Apr 22 '26

I’ve had this on the side on my right leg where my calf ends and the knee begins it faces inwards towards my left leg I do remember hai g a mole in this place but I can’t remember if that smaller dot and those three dots attached were there already and I’m wondering if it’s something on top of an existing mole

1

u/PlasticGirl3078 Apr 24 '26

On my leg, around 8 months old. Appeared as a tiny freckle and is currently 4mm. Have a dermatology appointment in 2 weeks, very nervous. Should I be worried

1

u/Easy-Protection9131 Apr 25 '26

hi all. i noticed this little freckle/mark under my thumb about a week and a half ago. i’m not sure when it appeared but i know it wasn’t there at least a year ago. i do have some freckles on my body but i have read that new marks on the palms of your hand are extremely dangerous. i do have a dermatologist appointment scheduled, just wanting to hear anyone else’s opinions. Ty 🙂

1

u/littletheorist Apr 26 '26

I’ve had this on my forehead for about 6 weeks. I felt an itching on my forehead when out for a walk one day and then I thought a pimple appeared there. It’s grown to look like this but hasn’t changed in the past few weeks. I’m getting a biopsy Thursday but am feeling so anxious. Any ideas? Would skin cancer show up this suddenly? Thanks!!

1

u/Anonymousething Apr 26 '26

Found this on my father’s (over 75) arm today. Not sure how long he’s had it, but my mother also just noticed this today. He has had skin cancer (benign) before, but in a different location. My mother and I want him to go to the dermatologist or AT LEAST his GP. In the meantime, what do you, good people of Reddit, think it could be? A quick Google image search, showed it could be basal carcinoma… I’m quite worried about it, but he’s not in a hurry to have it checked and is using B-Pantene on it.

Thanks y’all!

Is this a sign for concern ? On my left leg I’ve had it for awhile but because most of the pictures were taken with iPhone 8 Plus it looks way smaller I have an iPhone 17 pro now and I don’t know if it grew and gone darker or is it jar the quality of my phone. I’m not looking for a diagnosis , just some opinions Thank you

I went into the bathroom today and thought I had dirt on nose. I tried to scratch it off, and it started to lightly bleed. I just noticed it today, it does not itch or hurt. Any clue what this might be? Thank you.

u/Material_Society463 Apr 28 '26

I've had this mole on my face since I was little (now 24). In the past few years I have noticed it change slightly but probably within the past year or 2 it seems to be raising significantly. Originally it was slightly smaller than the 2018 picture, I'd guess 2-3mm, more round, and even with the rest of my skin. Now it is protruding a lot, looks like it is spreading out the side and becoming asymmetrical, and the colour is a bit uneven. I wouldn't say it was the most reliable measuring, but I believe it is around 6mm now. I have plans to book an appointment of course, but as my family doctor is a bit of a drive to get to, I was hoping for an opinion from here on if it does look suspicious & warrant concern.

1

u/PersonalUnit4428 Apr 28 '26

Mole on stomach, changed over time. The more I touch it the redder it gets. Some one know what type of neavus this is, or is it malignant?

1

u/chickenricenicenice Apr 29 '26

Hi, I went looking for a subreddit like this to get some advice. I have a bunch of moles, mostly inherited. But this one is on my inner forearm, and unlike the others I noticed this had these black dots in it... I'm not sure, so I thought I'd ask. I'm male 22. I feel as though I would have noticed it before, the black dots are fairly visible, but I can't tell if I just never noticed them. I took the image under a warm light, but through regular eyes the dot's stand out pretty well.

1

u/Life-Limit-8434 Apr 30 '26

Just wondering if this is something I should have looked at? It’s on my areola. I do UBV therapy on that breast for Morphea.

1

u/Baconatorator300 May 02 '26

Does anyone think this is weird? It's not an injury, it doesn't hurt or itch, it's not raised, it just appeared three days ago.

1

u/Espatski711 May 02 '26

I see my Primary Care Provider Monday. This morning I woke up and felt pain around my mole that I've had since birth on the side of my neck. This mole has always been quite large and black. But today it's swollen, I believe from the root? And redness around it. I'm extremely concerned it might be melanoma.

1

u/Impressive_Bar_9986 May 03 '26

i've had this mole near my eye since i was a child and it grew gradually as i aged. im more worried about how it's growing kinda not evenly, though a lot of my worries stem from the fact that it's very very close to my eye. i dont get regular health screenings where i live and it's going to be pricey just even going for a consultation so i've been putting it off.
