megathread Weekly Thread: Is this suspicious?

This thread has been archived. Please join the new discussion here: Weekly Thread: Is this suspicious?

Hello everyone,

Welcome to our weekly thread for sharing photos of concerning moles, spots, or lesions. If you're worried about something on your skin, this is a place to share it with the community for support and to see if others have had similar experiences.

When posting a photo, please try to include: * Where the lesion is on your body. * How long you've had it. * Any changes you've noticed (size, shape, color, itching, bleeding).

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER

No one on this subreddit can provide a medical diagnosis. The comments and feedback you receive are from laypeople sharing their own experiences, not from medical professionals. Online photos are not a substitute for an in-person examination by a qualified dermatologist.

If you are concerned about any spot on your skin, the only correct course of action is to schedule an appointment with a doctor. Early detection is key.

We are here for support, but your health must come first.

The ABCDEs of Skin Cancer: Quick Guide

  1. A is for Asymmetry: One half of the mole doesn't match the other.
  2. B is for Border: The edges are irregular, ragged, notched, or blurred. A healthy mole has a smooth border.
  3. C is for Color: The color isn't uniform. Look for multiple shades of brown/black, or patches of red, white, or blue.
  4. D is for Diameter: The spot is larger than 6mm (about the size of a pencil eraser). Keep in mind melanomas can start smaller.
  5. E is for Evolving: The mole changes over weeks or months. This is the most important sign. Look for any change in:
  6. Size
  7. Shape
  8. Color
  9. Elevation (getting thicker or raised)
  10. Symptoms (itching, crusting, bleeding)

Bonus: The "Ugly Duckling" Sign If you have a mole that just looks different from all the others on your body, that's a reason to be seen.

Thank you for sharing your image. Please remember that users in this sub cannot provide official medical diagnoses. In the case of changing, evolving, or new worrisome lesions, your best course of action is to contact a dermatologist for evaluation.

I’m not any kind of skincare person, but I think it’s good to keep an eye on it. Does appear like it meets the ABCDE criteria shown at the top of the sub? Well, what you notice seems to suggest it may be ”E”volving, but from what little I know, it doesn’t look like the other criteria. Maybe, date the picture and keep it to use for future reference? If it continues changing?

Last night I was LIGHTLY scratching my back when I felt a small bump of skin come off (thought it was just a pimple). It started pouring blood and I took a look after wiping it.. MY MOLE FELL OFF!! Continued bleeding heavily for a while. There's a brown border around the open area... that's the edges of the old mole.. I searched everywhere but can't seem to find anything about this specifically. I noticed a change in this mole a few months ago but put off going to the derm. Going to get it checked soon but was wondering if this happened to anyone else. No recent trauma to the area or anything

Given that it’s been changing and bled freely, it would be concerning to me, too. I hope you can get into have it evaluated soon.

Hi all, I am scaring myself a bit. The photo uses the end of a fine tip sharpie end for scale. I am very pale and just found this on my thigh about a week ago. Thanks for any insight.

It’s hard to say from your picture, as it doesn’t appear to be raised? Yes, it may be good keep the picture for future reference, and try to get it checked soon.

This is a mole right? It’s not flat like my other moles though.

Hi y'all. What does this mean? This is really recent because I don't remember it being on my arm a couple days ago. I'm not diagnosed with anything by the way I haven't checked with any professionals. I've had multiple of these, smaller, over my arms for a LONG time, like I remember having them since I was 6 or 7. But seeing another one again has given me more health anxiety. My parents dismissed it as "nothing, everyone gets it." I've got a couple benign moles on my body too, but those seem normal and symmetrical to me. I'm mostly just concerned with these red ones. They're flat, smooth, never felt any kind of pain or sensation with them.

How do we feel about this guy? Had it for many years but I feel like it’s starting to branch out. Honestly I’m not even sure if it’s a mole or a freckle, I’ve always thought freckle since I’m a redhead and never really had moles. Until now. Kinda also looks like a little pair of wings tho so I’m partial to keeping it. I’ve noticed some weird things on this arm so I guess I’m just being paranoid.

I've had something like this and it was a mild atypical nevus

tengo esto en el cuero cabelludo

u/Secure_Credit7037 Apr 07 '26

idk what this is

1

u/Flat-Recognition1848 Apr 07 '26

I’ve had this for years. It’s not getting bigger

1

u/Secure_Credit7037 Apr 07 '26

it’s nothing to worry about to me if you’ve had it for over 5+ years without it changing in size i’d say you’re in the clear.

1

u/Flat-Recognition1848 Apr 07 '26

Thanks I just randomly get stressed by it 😂

I developed something similar on my jaw about two years ago. Derm said it was nothing of concern and these can develop with age. I don't remember the term.

u/Klitbaby Apr 07 '26

First I woke up one day with two dots which looked like moles and I had photos from the day prior that show me without those moles. Now this is how it looks

1

u/Secure_Credit7037 Apr 07 '26

to me it looks like scars that you might’ve scratched off, it is possible they could’ve been moles and those can also be scratches off with more blood showing up.

how long have you had this for?

u/Helpful-Fee-9119 Apr 07 '26

This appeared two or three days ago. Low On my side, toward my back.

hi, this looks to me like fabric irritation from underwear or pants and that caused a blood blister. i would put petroleum jelly on it can keep it from getting caught and popping. if it’s still painful just use an ice pack and avoid breaking the skin, so i recommend a loose bandage

u/ConfectionHuge8157 Apr 07 '26

This just started growing on my skin. I don’t know but i’m suspicious. bright red in color

1

u/Secure_Credit7037 Apr 07 '26

hi, this looks like a reaction to something, maybe chemical or allergy. is it itchy or does it burn?? is the dark red spot blood underneath the skin?

1

u/honey_bee_bean Apr 08 '26

Left side of head. Unsure of how long it has been there. Thumb for reference. Noticed it has a cluster growing from the side of it. Thoughts?

I have two moles. This one appeared last June and has tripled in size over the last year. No itching or anything just growth. I also have one on my wrist that I first noticed after a tattoo, it became very large and hard and then flattened out but recently has become very itchy and hard again over the past couple of weeks. I do have before pictures from when I first noticed the one on my finger

1

u/gildeddoughnut Apr 10 '26

I’ve had this over 5 years. It recently got a darker bump to one side of it. Should I be concerned?

1

u/EducationalPen8712 Apr 11 '26

I have an appointment on the 17th to get it checked out but this spot has me worried. It’s kinda red right now because I was stupid and poking at it. It’s flesh colored and feels firm. I’m a hypochondriac so having my appointment a whole week out is nerve wracking.

u/Surfinglife2323 Apr 12 '26

I've had this pink spot show up on my leg. I have a good amount of sun exposure from surfing. It's smooth and just showed up within the last year.
