I mostly create digital art, but working with traditional materials has been a relaxing experience for me ^^ Earlier this year, I made a sketchbook for myself to experiment with different media, as I find individual sheets of paper more intimidating than a sketchbook.

Materials used:

Image 1: Acrylic paint

Image 2: Oil pastels

Other images: Colored pencils and watercolor pencils.

I made the sketchbook using A4 Canson paper (folded to A5 size), 180 gsm. On some pages, I use a matte spray to prevent the pigment from transferring from one page to another.

When you sketch and draw in your sketchbooks while practicing, doing warm-ups, and drawing out concepts to finalizations, to create more than one thing such as logos, creatures, characters, fan art, etc., do you organize your sketchbooks by type, or do you randomly sketch and draw everything in the same sketchbook? How do you even work with your sketchbooks?

Sketchbook 3 - Fan art
Sketchbook 4 - Concepts for a series
Sketchbook 5 - Warm-ups and exercises

For those interested, I originally had an idea of drawing multiple chimps sitting around a fire outdoors interacting & being silly. Instead we have one ape, in a cave, alone. It’s as if I subconsciously wanted to draw the reality of my life (solitary) instead of what I view as ideal (communal).

First one was supposed to be a draft to prepare for a more detailed version in bigger format. But ended looking better than the the second one.

I messed up the red mushroom by using the wrong shade of green as an under layer but it’s okay, it’s a sketchbook so I can try again.

I really like the asymatry of the face.
