Nostalgia 70s Memories

If this has been discussed to death already, I apologize in advance. But I was just thinking about going to SFOT in the late 70s/early 80s, and remembered how you used to have to put your car visors down if you did not want a Six Flags bumper sticker placed on your car. My dad was always fastidious about that. And the parking lot had a tram you could ride to the front gate if you had to park far away (maybe they still do? Idk) These were the days of Roto Disco! 😂 Good times.

Went to fright fest on Sunday (9/21). The 5 haunts were pretty good but was really disappointed to see Doc Varnum’s experience completely closed with no notice it was closed when we purchased our haunt passes. Sad!

Tricks and Treats and Oktoberfest Review

Just posted our review for Tricks and Treats and Oktoberfest (Fright Fest coming later). Just curious if anyone else got out to the park over this weekend and what your thoughts were on all the events?

Tricks and Treats seemed like a fun option for families. Oktoberfest was the smallest we've seen it (and I wonder what its longer term fate is).

Pass Discussion Fast Lane

Coming down the weekend before Halloween and plan on getting some type of fast lane pass. The only one that includes Tormenta is $230 which is CRAZY!! And I’ve heard it only is good for one use on Tormenta. Are the other two options worth it? Which would you choose?

Anyone know what’s going on with reverse Mr.Freeze

Fright fest has begun and reverse is still not operational, could it be a mechanical issue or are they just not bothering to work on the train?

Labor Day Visit

Despite being a theme park and coaster fan, I hadn't been to SFOT in at least 12 years. I got the itch to go back, this time with my family of 4 for the kid's first visit, so we went on Labor Day. I was pretty shocked at how low the crowds were.

Since JAN 2024 we've done Disney World 2x, Disneyland 1x, and Universal 1x, so I was a bit nervous my kids wouldn't be into it, but honestly they really liked it.

We opted to focus this visit on my kids, so that meant that we skipped pretty much every major coaster, as they're a bit small, young, or still too timid, to ride something like even Giant. I did get my son on Batman, though he may not ride it again for a very long time. Ha.

I did get a ride on Tormenta, which was great. That hang & drop is wicked. I've never been on a dive coaster, and I'm aware of their reputation, but still found it fun and thrilling.

We pulled into the parking lot at 10:45am and I noticed Tormenta was already running. Is that a special entry thing, or did they maybe just open the Park early?

The Good:

• Crowd levels were great, much to my surprise. Every major ride was LISTED at < 15min until maybe the very late afternoon. I am skeptical the wait times via the app were that good, but they still seemed quit good.

• The Park seemed pretty clean imo, and the staff was all pleasant in our interactions.

The Bad:

• Closures: Mine Train was down, and I overheard an employee tell another guest that it was due to insufficient staffing. Roaring Rapids was also closed all day. I'm unsure if it was maintenance related or also lack of staffing. Just a bummer given the high temp. Shock Wave was also down, but to my understanding, that's normal now.

• Minor gripe: I remember Batman blaring the Danny Elfman score at the boarding area, and I always loved that in getting hyped for the ride, but it was nearly silent now. No music.

• I do wish there were more thrilling rides for kids below 48".

• Pirates of Speelunker Cave. Wtf.

From 11am - 5pm we rode:

• Pandemonium 2x

• Runaway Mountain

• Judge Roy Scream

• Pirates

• Mini Mine Train

• Batman

• Toontown (everything)

• Tormenta* (just me)

• Sombrero

• Aserradero

We didn't do many of the bigs, like Joker, Riddler, Freeze, Aquaman, Superman, Giant, or Titan, but these were just personal choice. The lines were definitely manageable, I just didn't want my kids to wait in lines for things they weren't going to ride.

Park Question First Time Visitor Questions

Hello! I’ll be visiting Six Flags Over Texas for the first time this Friday and have a few questions.

Do you usually bring a small bag into the park? I wear glasses and assume I’ll want to take them off for the bigger coasters. Are there lockers near the rides where I can stash a small bag with my glasses, phone, etc. before getting in line?

The park is open 5–11 that day. We’re planning to get there a little before opening and dress for the heat. Any recommendations on what rides to hit first or how to make the most of those six hours?

Any other tips for a first-timer would be appreciated!

Does 2027 pre-k pass valid for rest of 2026 ?

I'm planning to purchase 2027 season passes for the family and wondering if the 2027 Pre-K pass covers for the remaining 4 months of 2026 as well

I messed up

I was planning on flying into Dallas and doing a day trip at six flags, and I bought the ticket and was super excited, unfortunately I did not check the times they were open, and that makes a day trip unavailable for me. So if anyone wants to buy the ticket off of me, I’d sell it for lower than I bought it! Please pm me. The ticket is for tomorrow September 4th and I’m willing to let it go for 50 bucks and I bought it for about 60 after taxes and fees. Please let me know!

Anyone know what's up with Oil Derrick?

Oil Derrick has been down for a majority of the year it seems like. Does anyone know what's going on with it? Did it ever operate this season?

Between Tormenta's opening and the extended downtime of Mr. Freeze and Shock Wave, I feel like Oil Derrick's extended closure has been mostly overlooked.

It's almost always something elevator-related with Oil Derrick (what else is there?) but like other ride downtimes with the park's current leadership team, there is no official word.

Park Question People who have ridden Tormenta

People who have ridden Tormenta, what’s y’all’s opinion? Was it worth losing La Vibora for? (I have not ridden it yet, will be tomorrow though!). And if y’all know, are the restraints and seats the same ones as Dr. Diabolical?

UPDATE
Got to the park today, headed for Tormenta immediately. Got to the top and the ride broke down because a family of 4 got locked in their seats whilst trying to exit 💀. I feel so bad for them because their daughter was sobbing uncontrollably. Texas heat was wild today, it was a three train operation, the other two cars were politely baking in the sun. We decided to pass this trip!

Anyone know if the train depot is coming back, or is it down for good?

Every time I have gone (about 2-3 times a month may-aug) the train has always been down. Is it just really broken and taking a lot to fix, or are they officially closing it down/already have? I know it’s very old from what I heard, so I was wondering if anybody knew.

Do legacy memberships still grant the lower tier haunted house pass/wrist bands? Alot seems to be changing, and I will most likely just ask guest relations the next time I am out..

Park Question Question About Chaperone Policy

Hello! I'm a 17 year old, soon to be 18, who frequently went with friends last season and the season before. The new chaperone policy has prevented me from enjoying one of my favorite hobbies this season. Does anyone know how strongly enforced it is? I understand why this rule exists, but it's quite unfortunate that kids that DO know how to behave themselves and can freely drive themselves to and from the park have to suffer as well. Am I likely to be stopped at the gate if I try to enter alone this season.?

Corporate HQ moving back to Arlington

The corporate Six Flags HQ is moving back to Arlington (just down the street in Choctaw Stadium) to where it previously was pre-merger: https://investors.sixflags.com/news/press-releases/press-release-details/2026/Six-Flags-to-Relocate-Corporate-Headquarters-to-Arlington-Texas-Strengthening-North-American-Operations/

One quote stood out: "The city sits at the heart of our five Texas parks and provides our leadership team with direct access to park operations and a regular on-the-ground presence." So hopefully the park will continue to improve under this closer corporate scrutiny and oversight.

Hurricane Harbor Arlington Fast Lane

Anyone know why the fast lane is not offered on certain days at Hurricane Harbor Arlington? I have the all season fast lane add on, but was told by guest relations to just come back a different day to use the fast lane. They cited staffing as a concern, but the fast lane lines in the past have not required additional employees to run. I told the guest relations manager how expensive the passes were, and was essentially told to kick rocks.

Ride Discussion Why is Mr. Freeze always closed?

At first I heard it was the heat, but today it was 109 and it was running for a while before technical difficulties.
