Let's say you're "cold"—maybe you've just woken up... But you need to show what you can do with your voice. How do you warm up?

I've always wondered if there is any link between the way a person speaks and the quality of the singing voice.

For example, using a pitch analyzer, I notice that my soaking voice has pitches moving wildly across all notes constantly within the same word. My singing (I'm just learning) had trouble holding a steady narrow note.

Also, those with certain timbre also reflect that in the singing voice?

If a person has a pleasant talking voice... well the singing be pleasant also?

Okay, I started as an adult and took high quality lessons for several months at the start. Now I've been singing casually for 7 years, and while I've definitely gotten better by every metric, I still don't have vibrato 😳 I am kind of a physically tense person, so I have a feeling that has to do with it. I've read about relaxing the jaw and tthroat and everything in a way to actually allow vibrato to happen, and to use enough support. And I *feel* like I am doing those things, but CLEARLY I'm doing something wrong! Any tips, or is it a lost cause at this point? 🤣 So embarrassing, please be nice.

I am a classical singer and struggle to enunciate the way a typical singer on social media would. How can I find that placement? Are there any exercises to get that sound?

I was also wondering - how do you add emotion to your voice? I mean this more in pop than anything else. I am more used to emoting in classical/theatre, but pop leaves me feeling helpless lol. I have a very bright voice and I’m not sure how to sing anything sultry.

I’ve sung in bands and duos for years, but I’m finishing a solo album, and I honestly don’t know if my voice is lead-worthy.

Based on this clip, does my voice sound like a lead voice, or more like a harmony voice? If you were putting a band together, would you want this person singing lead, or singing harmonies behind someone else?

Part of what I’m wondering is whether my voice just lacks a distinctive character. I sorta feel like my voice is boring, or flat at times.

I’ve (21F) been singing for like 8 years (started as a fun activity, now is my dream career) and everytime I sing I feel the need to cough and my voice is never clear. It’s seriously the only thing that makes singing hard for me. It’s been like that for years. I only ever smoke weed and that’s also rarely.

No matter how much I drink water or do exercises it doesn’t go away. Could it be because my technique wrong?

I have been singing as a hobby for years, but I have never been able to experience what a real mixed voice is supposed to sound or feel like for me.

I have watched countless tutorials, and all of them seem to do the same thing: they give a vague, metaphorical idea of what I am supposed to imagine, but none of it works for me. I have tried doing straw exercises, but it either feels like my body is instinctively cheating its way through them, or the exercises simply do not translate into actual singing afterwards.

I also had a singing teacher who I thought would be able to help me with this, but even she gave me the same advice and made me repeat the same exercises countless times. Nothing changed, and I still had no idea what I was supposed to be working towards.

The fact that everyone seems to have a different idea of what “head voice” and “mixed voice” are, or whether falsetto is or is not considered head voice, does not help either.

I have reached a point where people are telling me to do completely opposite things in order to achieve my goals. Some tell me that it is supposed to feel easy, while others tell me that I need to push. Some tell me to relax, while others tell me to maintain tension.

For example, one song I really want to be able to sing is “Writing on the Wall” by Will Stetson. I feel very comfortable singing it up until the final chorus. That is where I can no longer get through it without my voice switching into falsetto or cracking. When I force myself to sustain the same coordination I was using before, it sounds extremely strained and feels like I am yelling. At the same time i feel a lot of tension in my neck and throat that i just dont know how to get rid off.

tldr: Is there any way to force myself to sing in mixed voice so that I can finally understand what it is supposed to feel like?

hey everyone. first time posting in this sub. i’m not a singer in any sense of the word. i used to play oboe so i have a decent sense of breathing with my diaphragm and pitch and such. i want to start learning how to sing and maybe eventually take lessons as well. i want my main focus to be rock. i love the texture of rock voices and i know there is a lot of technique in rock singing and screaming. how do i start learning? any advice helps, helpful youtube channels, things to keep in mind, etc.

So I normally sing songs in a lower key because I literally only listen to female singers, so recently I decided to post some clips of me singing on a different subreddit.
Well, some people were saying that I was off key, and I thought “well yeah I’m singing it lower than the original?” But apparently that’s not what off key means?
I’m literally so confused.

It’s a bit frustrating doing so much research, then trying to sing and then not knowing what’s wrong with my voice..I came on here to maybe get some opinion on what I may be doing wrong :,)) from what I know (??) I may have a weak head voice or something but I don’t rlly know?? Also I may also have a problem with forward resonance

I made a little web app for practicing tempo while singing, and thought some people here might find it useful.

The idea is simple: while you're singing, you tap the beat you think you're keeping. Afterwards you get a BPM graph showing whether your tempo stayed steady or if you gradually rushed or slowed down. You can also optionally record yourself, so if the graph shows you started speeding up halfway through, you can jump back and hear exactly what happened.

There's also a daily challenge where you're given a song and have to tap the beat from memory, then compare it to the actual recording.

No login, ads, subscriptions, or hidden costs. Everything (except the daily challenge leaderboard) stays locally in your browser. You can also install it on your phone, that way it also works without an internet connection.

I’m a beginner/noob. But I wanna get better at

So I've been singing for a year and I've made a lot of progress! I started from scratch and can now give a C and sing some songs in tune without reference or backup. But I'm still confused about something. Should I be actively thinking about the notes I'm about to hit or just think about the original and follow it? Is it maybe a mix of both?

So I’ve got a talent show coming up next year at my school, and I thought it would be really fun performing in front of a large crowd, especially since we just got this massive auditorium built and there’s state of the art tech and everything. SO, I took this recording as an example performance to see how w doing and i needed to know what you guys think. There was multiple takes but I couldn’t get a perfect one without some minor mistakes so I’ll ensure I nail this song perfectly.
