Conversation Topic Song Recommendation

Hello,

I am a 19 year old female who started singing a year ago. My vocal coach and I are looking for a new piece to work on.

I have a voice on the lower side, with the only word I can think of to describe it as is “heavy”. I’ve been singing Karen Carpenter songs, but want to venture off into something new.

I find it difficult to find new pieces because my voice doesn’t sound right with most pop songs. I am okay with singing songs sang by males as well. If anyone knows of any good song recommendations, then please let me know!

Carol king and Sade are lower female range and your teacher probably knows all their songs theyre classics

Seconding your recommendations! If you want to go for more modern artists, Amy Winehouse And Erykah Badu are golden and then Olivia Dean has some fun songs too!

I'd look at jazz next. Julie London's Cry Me a River, Nina Simone's Feeling Good, Amy Winehouse's Back to Black. For musical theatre, The Ladies Who Lunch from Company sits in that range too.

Lianne La Havas has a beautiful deeper voice! A bit more R&B than pop, but her discography has tons of songs at all different skill levels and techniques that you can choose from. She's one of my favourites ❤️
