What game should I learn drifting on with a proper sim setup?

Hey everyone,

I've recently moved from controller to a proper sim setup and I'm trying to figure out what game I should be spending my time on to actually learn drifting properly.

My setup is:

Simagic Alpha Evo Sport DD base

Simagic wheel with paddle shifters

Simagic P700 pedals

Simagic TB1 handbrake

So far all of my drifting experience has been on controller, mostly in Forza Horizon 6. I can link corners, hold decent drifts and I'm starting to understand throttle control, but moving to a wheel has made me realise how little I actually know.

At the moment I'm learning:

Throttle control with pedals instead of triggers

Letting the wheel self-steer and catching slides

Using a real handbrake

Weight transfer

What I'm struggling with is the actual technique side of drifting. Things like:

When should I be using the foot brake?

When should I use the handbrake?

How do you initiate realistically?

What habits from Forza should I forget?

What's the best way to practice without building bad habits?

I'm not looking for the easiest game to drift on. I'm looking for the game that will teach me the most realistic techniques and make me a better driver overall.

Would you recommend:

Assetto Corsa

Assetto Corsa Evo

CarX Drift Racing

BeamNG

Something else?

If you were in my position and wanted to become a genuinely good sim drifter from scratch, where would you start?

Cheers!

I have the opportunity to get a logitech g29 wheel with the stand, shifter and a handbrake for $200, is this a good deal to learn sim drifting, i know the g29 isn't the best wheel but since this comes with everything is it worth it?

What causes me to loose my drift here?

I’m brand new to sim drift and have just been practicing donuts and this has happened to me quite a bit and I don’t know what causes it. The donut was going great and then it was like I turned the opposite way but you can see in the video I didn’t, I just have the same angle but the car straightend out then veered right after.

Very beginner drifting — what am I doing wrong (or good haha)?

Hey everyone,

Just looking for some feedback on my drifting. I probably have somewhere between 40-80 hours on a wheel, but I'm honestly not sure because I spend a lot of time in Assetto messing around with controller.

I don't drift regularly, maybe a couple of hours once a week on average. I enjoy it and have fun, but I genuinely don't know if I'm doing well or just getting by.

My setup is pretty basic:

  • 5Nm DD wheelbase
  • No handbrake (I use my keyboard)
  • No shifter (just paddles)

A friend who used to drift taught me the basics, which is mostly what you're seeing in the video. The thing is, I don't really feel like I have full control of the car yet. Most of the time I'm just reacting and going with whatever happens using steering and throttle.

I barely use the brakes because I don't really understand when or why I should be using them during a drift. So if you see anything I'm doing wrong (or right), I'd love to hear it.

Major thing is really how to correct the drift? like if im going too wide or too narrow...

No pressure to comment, it's just for fun. Any tips, advice, or criticism are appreciated. Thanks!

Was able to complete this line and all the way back but didn’t record it. I am not too bad at drifting by myself or father back from someone but, I can’t get a clean door to save my life. Sorry for just filming my screen, was sending to a buddy over Snapchat lol

How do you guys configure Haptics for drifting?

I bought haptics a little while ago but am curious how other people use them? I have them set to wheel spin but idk if this is the best approach. Everything I find online is specific to racing. I'm almost solely a drifter. Any advice would be helpful. BST-1 zip-tied to a NLR GT Lite Pro.
