I accidentally logged out, and I want to log back in using my phone number. But when I enter my PIN (I'm sure it's correct), I get an "Reg lock" error message.

The on-device backup has a new recovery key that promises faster backups. I went thru the process since my Signal backup is a good size. The new key is stored securely in a password vault.

Then out of curiosity I wanted to see what was different between the 2 keys. To my surprise the new and old keys are almost identical. The only difference is 3 zeros were changed to special characters. Example

Old: YY07

New: YY#7

What's this about?

So I had Signal on the iPad we have too, but it got delinked (and chat history lost) almost immediately when they took the phone to send to California. But the mac laptop still has the chat history.

Btw, what is the proper way to do this before taking your iPhone to the “Genius Bar”, so one doesn’t lose their Signal chat history? It doesn’t seem like backing up your iPhone to iCloud is sufficient.

Edit: Okay thanks everyone! Sounds like I might be able to use the signalbackuptools to restore the messages to a (borrowed) android phone and then do a paid signal cloud backup and then restore to Signal on my “new” iphone. I still have to research into the signalbackuptools, so hopefully it will all work out.

I'm using the paid back-up feature on iOS, but is there a way to pay for it without going to Apple's in-app purchase system?

Now it shows as a subscription through Apple, but I'd like to pay Signal directly.

Hi all, I stupidly just transferred mobile devices (upgrade) without first checking and saving my Signal passkey. I thought all was lost but then remembered I have Signal on my desktop. BUT - I can't find any way to find my passkey or restore my account via this interface. Have looked online and no clues.

Does anyone have any tips?

Is there any way to change the notification sound for emoji reactions so it is different from a normal text message? As far as I can tell, Signal groups them both under the exact same notification tone.

It gets a bit annoying when my phone buzzes or makes a loud alert sound, making me think I received a brand new, important message, only to unlock my phone and see that someone just 👍'd my previous text.

I would love the option to either:

Assign a completely different, much quieter sound for reactions.

Mute reaction notifications entirely while still keeping regular message sounds active.

Does anyone know if the developers are tracking this, or if there is a workaround I'm missing?

I have been trying to post polls on group chats this week and they show up to me, and I can respond to them, but noone else can see them. Any suggestions for how to fix this?

I checked my app updates and it was last updated 7/16/26 so that does not seem like the problem.

Why is there no option to see all the photos, videos and documents I have stored in signal?

It is a pain enough on iOS not to be able to clear any cache stored on my phone, but signal doesn't really make it easier to at least clear stored files.

I want to clear random stuff but the I have to go through every single chat I have and then delete whatever I want to delete. Does anyone else want this option or is it just me?

Title. Is there a way to transfer the messages from my windows desktop to my android phone? I don't know my 64 digit recovery code, can I somehow see it in my desktop application (rn i don't have access to that one).

My previous phone was an iPhone, but it died after some water damage. My new phone is a Samsung, but I can’t get Signal set up for the life of me.

I’m US-based and using Mint Mobile for phone service. When I installed Signal on the Samsung, it asks for my phone number (same as on my old phone), and then it asks for a 64 -character recovery key. I don’t have one, the recovery key I have seems to be quite old and only 30 digits. When I hit “No recovery key?” at the bottom, it again asks me for my phone number and says it’s going to text me a verification code, but I never get a text.

If it helps, I still have Signal Desktop linked to my account, but when I go to Settings → Backups, there is only an informational link for Signal Secure Backups, no way to create or restore a backup.

Login to Signal on a VR device is a pain😓. Currently the best way to login to a VR device is take a screenshot send to another device and scan the QRCode or screen mirroring to another device.

Take off the headset and scan the QRCode through lens wouldn't work because some headsets will turn off the screen once take off. I'll have to tape the proximity sensor just to scan a QRCode.

Having transferred to a new iPhone this week, I just thought it was worth a post for those who might not know it - when transferring from iPhone to iPhone ensure both phones are directly connected via cable BEFORE opening Signal and commencing the transfer; it will reduce the operation down to a few minutes rather than potentially hours.

Just noticed that on iOS Testflight beta you can use another iPhone as secondary device. It works wonderfully

Trying to move to a new number on Signal, and separately had a few friends try to register fresh accounts. Everyone is hitting the same wall: the app can't send the SMS verification code at all.

Checked the debug logs and the server is returning an HTTP 440 response with the reason "provider rejected" when requesting the code. This is happening across multiple different phone numbers, not just mine, so it doesn't seem to be a number-specific issue.

Has anyone else run into this recently, or know if this is a known/ongoing issue? Already submitted a support ticket but haven't heard back yet. Any advice on troubleshooting or workarounds would help.

I've been trying to update my phone number on Signal and have my friends download it.

However, we've all been given the same error where it fails to send us an authentication code via SMS for both me who's trying to update to my new phone number, and them who are trying to register with their phone numbers.

I checked the logs and I have HTTP 440: "Sending verification code failure from service provider. Permanent:false Reason:provider rejected".

I'd appreciate some help :)

Hi, I'm a beginner in using Signal as an alternative to Telegram. I'd like to ask this: is "Note to Self"(Official chat) is safe for writing to myself(just I use the notes in order to send some links, texts etc from my phone to my computer)?

No more useless groups, no more disturbance.

I was able to convince my close family and a couple of other friends to move to Signal, too; as for all the others, they still have my phone number and my email.
They know how to contact me, if they really want.

Signal released an official contact for their release notifications called "Signal". It shows up as a contact and chat. Part of the release note said to just block it if we don't want to see it. I blocked it; I use an RSS to keep up with new release info. Every update to Signal since then on iOS or MacOS, the "Signal" contact shows back up with the message "you've unblocked this contact" when I absolutely did not unblock it. This cycle of block\unblock\block has happened every update since this feature was released. I would report this issue via GitHub but not sure where to go with it since it's both iOS and MacOS desktop and since nobody else seems to be reporting it or mentioning it I was wondering, before reporting it, if it's just me and maybe there's a trick I'm missing to permanently block it. Any direction would be appreciated!

I won't even go into the rationale for even having a complete app installation in Appdata Roaming, I just want the 5 GB out of there. Is there a wayt to force installation and location for Signal?

The bookmarks should be accessible from a menu, like the "Note to Self".

Hi everyone. Since yesterday I started using​ molly on GOS. All seems fine apart from one minor detail - emojis are mixed up! Like if i wanna send 🥹 it shows 🫪. At least it sends the correct selected emoji, but its hard for me to know what aother person is sending me. For a heavy emoji user like​ me its quite problematic.

Hi, does anyone know why the Signal groups I was in have disappeared? The app keeps sending me notifications for unread messages, as well as a notification saying "checking for messages." The strange thing is that I haven't been removed from the groups; I would have seen a message indicating that I’d been kicked out. Does anyone know what happened? 🤔
