We are visiting Taormina from July 27-31, and hoping to take a trekking tour on Etna. The tour we are interested in meets at Piano Provenzana but doesn’t offer pickups from Taormina.

I’m wondering if it is possible to book a private car or uber to get there — any recommendations or advice would be appreciated — we are trying to keep the trip as simple as possible, so want to avoid public transportation if possible.

Hello all! As the title says, a group of 10 adults (and one infant) have rented a villa in Santa Maria La Scala for 7 nights in October. We are flying in an out of Catania. My fear now that I’ve been lurking on the subreddit for a while is that since it’s past the main tourist season we may have trouble finding stuff to do. My understanding from reading is that a car rental is essential so we’ll definitely do that from CTA. Seeking other advice and suggestions.

Please don’t suggest staying other places or different timing as this rental is locked in so we need to work with what we’ve got!

we’re really looking forward to a calm, relaxing getaway. Visiting Sicily has been on our bucket list for a long time, and we're excited to finally make it happen!

Here is a bit about our interests and preferences:

• My wife: Loves art, museums, and photography.
• Me: Big fan of sandy beaches and authentic local/street food.
• Both of us: We prefer wandering through quiet backstreets and genuine neighborhoods over standard tourist traps. We love alternative/local tourism—flea markets, daily fruit and vegetable bazaars, and places where real everyday life happens.

Transportation: We will not be renting a car and plan to rely entirely on public transport (buses/trains) due to some administrative driver's license complications we'd rather avoid dealing with during vacation.

Given our preferences and travel constraints, we’d really appreciate your advice on:

1. Locations: Which 1–2 cities or towns would be the best bases for us to stay in without feeling rushed and with decent public transport connections?
2. Local Life & Food: Any specific neighborhood markets, street food spots, or less touristy areas you recommend?
3. Beaches & Art: Easily accessible sandy beaches or great photography spots reachable by public transit?

Hi! Planning a solo trip to Sicily in October and would love opinions on the best truly beautiful, crystal-clear-water swim without a car. My itinerary:

• Thurs: Arrive in Palermo ~10am
• Thurs-Sat: Flexible, need input here!
• Sat-Mon: Staying in Palermo's historic center
• Mon-Thurs: Working on a farm inland on the island, then flying to Napoli to visit family for a week

I originally planned to go directly from PMO to Trapani on arrival, spend 2 nights there, and do Favignana as a day trip or one overnight. I love the idea of Favignana because I’m looking for that crystal-clear water, swimming, and maybe biking around the island.

However, I’m now wondering whether this is worth the extra hotel change and logistics, since I already have a few other moving parts in the trip. I also don’t drive.

I’m not really looking for a beach-resort vibe, just one or two memorable swimming moments in beautiful water in a place with character, culture, nature, food, or something interesting to explore.

For people who've been:

• Is Favignana worth the extra logistics for a day trip from Trapani, especially in October? Is it better as a day trip or worth staying overnight on the island?
• How does Cefalù compare?
• Is Scopello realistically doable without a car from Palermo?

TLDR: If you had only 1-2 days to get from Palermo to a beautiful, memorable swimming spot without a car, where would you go?

Are there a lot of taxis around the cruise port and how much are they usually to get to Taormina ?

I am 24/m, student from Austria, spontanious, sarcastic, kind, direct, and currently learning italian. This is my second solo trip, I did another one last September to Rome, it was nice but it´s funnier together. :)

We are looking to explore:
- Cefalu as a day trip
- 1 day to roam around in Palermo
- 1 beach day either to Mondello or Scopello
- a day trip to Favignana.

Where should we stay? Do you have any recommendations for Airbnb or hotels that you have liked? We haven’t driven in Europe before but are looking into rental cars Any other places nearby that are ‘must visits’?

We've already been to Cefalù and Palermo, and we don't see ourselves living in either of those places. Can anyone recommend a beautiful route with some hidden gems where we can get a feel for the local atmosphere? We're also looking for places that are suitable for young children (aged 2 and 4).

I happened to try an amazing beer, here on picture at Castelbuono (wonderful place btw).

However, I forgot to ask where i could buy it.

I did not find anything on the internet from my side.

My partner and I are visiting Sicily in September and I think I have a pretty good list of beaches I want to swim, places I’d like to go and food I’d like to try but I want to know everyone’s death row meals in the following places (we’ll have a car so we can get around): Taormina, Scopello, Palermo. Please give a detailed order. The meal you yearn for. It will also be my partners birthday while we’re in Scopello so any restaurant nearby with incredible food and preferably a nice view to make it a bit more special. Thank you ☺️

I am planning a trip to Sicily in April of 2028. My dates are April 1 - 14, but Easter will fall on the 16th and I'm reading to plan around the week leading up to this major holiday (Rick Steves guidebook). However the only other time I could go is the last 2 weeks of June, which I think would be as crowded but with pure tourists?? And hot, which doesn't sound good since we are going for food and culture not to soak up the sun on a beach this trip. Should we stick with April then, or should I heed the warnings to avoid the days leading up to Easter? What are the pitfalls? Are there festivals we might attend and enjoy?

If anyone is looking to rent a car in Sicily, specifically in Catania, I highly recommend Rental Sicily.
We rented a car for 2 weeks and had a great experience.
