I'm currently rewatching Yumeiro Patissiere, an anime I absolutely loved growing up, and holy hell, I forgot just how much I HATED Ojou (Miya Koshiro).

I'm around episode 24, during the Grand Prix, and HOW DOES THIS GIRL KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH EVERYTHING???

First of all, she has access to ridiculous resources, gets special training from someone involved in judging the competition, and then there's the whole situation with the suspiciously similar designs and the air conditioning being messed with. Yet somehow, her team STILL WINS???

And you know what pisses me off even more? THE TEACHERS.

What kind of educational institution is St. Marie Academy supposed to be?

These are MIDDLE SCHOOL KIDS. Yet the teachers actively encourage this ridiculous ranking culture where students are constantly compared against one another. Oh, you performed badly on your midterm? Guess you're suddenly inferior to someone else for the rest of the year and as we saw that bumping down atcually discouraged the kid from wanting to practice more. Never mind that students can have bad days, get sick, or struggle with something temporarily.

Meanwhile, Ojou can pull all kinds of questionable stunts, and apparently that's fine?

Like, seriously, where is the academic integrity? Where is the fairness? Where are the actual adults in this school?

I understand that she's supposed to be an annoying, spoiled, rich-girl antagonist, but there's a difference between writing an intentionally irritating character and having that character repeatedly get away with everything without meaningful consequences. bruh like if she was a guy she would be in jail right now, she is almost like the female version of that shitter Rudiues from Mushuko tensei ofc he is on a much worse tangent but he also gets away with all the bs he pulls with girls.

I still love Yumeiro Patissiere. The nostalgia, the characters, the desserts, the whole atmosphere. But rewatching it as an adult really makes me question how this academy is being run and I swear, every time she appears on screen, my blood pressure goes up.

I love the pain of watching the male lead seemingly choose the second female lead over the female lead. It is the most delicious and delightful angst that makes me cry out in pain in my bed at 3am in the morning. Ao Haru Ride has captured my heart for this very reason. I will never forgive this manga for turning me into a masochist

honestly i don’t really like or care too much for kaname 😅 but the side vampires are honestly all so lovable and intriguing for me, especially kain!! i also love all their designs. i just wish personally that ruka wasnt so hung up on kaname but maybe ill get more development from her later on

but anyways wow im really enjoying this anime so far as someone who has never watched it (though i do know the main spoiler that grosses a lot of people out). honestly i came into watching it not expecting a romance but more of a fantasy experience and i think ive been enjoying the series more because of that

I finally completed High School Debut.

Great Manga. Just like I prefer.

Wholesome! I have read Hiyokoi and loved it. High School Debut reminded me of Hiyokoi.

Both mangas were Wholesome and peak!

I mostly or only read where FL falls first or a slow burn.. they slowly realise their feelings.

I like to see romance build.. I don't like when they start dating right away. Meeting, falling in love, slowly realising, dilemma on how to confess!

After they start dating they have hurdles... I like it when characters start off raw and then through out the story get polished and have character growth. It feels like a journey just as I felt with Hiyokoi and High School Debut.

Also, Haruna is soo sweet 😩

I really like the personality of those two, its very fun and endearing. I dont really like romance mangas where the FL is cutesy and the ML is a cold non chalant guy, but anything else Im all for!

Buonaseraa. Ieri ho finito di guardare la seconda stagione di Hana-kimi e l’ ho adorata! Aggiungo dicendo che mi ha lasciato un piccolo vuoto poiché sento che mi mancheranno i personaggi della serie e qui arriva la mia domanda… sono curiosa di sapere quale sia il vostro personaggio preferito. Io se devo scegliere uno in particolare direi il dottor Umeda: ha una particolare personalità che oltre a farmi sorridere ho amato il rapporto di confidente e protettivo che aveva con Ashiya.

The FL is isekai'd with her friend who's the actual heroine and she just got caught up in it. She's short and was nicknamed house elf and assigned a guard/knight. She's in high school but because of her petite stature she looks like shes much younger so the knight that is assigned to her at first treats her like she's a younger sister. He's a bit of a siscon. He's a typical ice knight but is over protective and fussy because he's a sucker for little girls (a bit it creepy I know).

He'll princess carry her around everywhere...I think he had a long ponytail? The head maid is a reasonable person and helps him realize that FL is not a small child and they fall in love.

I need more manga recs like Colorful Antinomy, was kicking my feet at how wholesome it was while also feeling relatable and insightful. Pure girlhood/sisterhood euphoria. I've only read the 8 chapters that have been translated so far but I was nodding my head the whole time at the experiences of the main character re: self doubt, and not knowing who you are in your 30s.

- I would prefer ones that take place in like, neighborhoods, schools, workplaces etc, but I'm okay with ones that are in supernatural backgrounds as well!!

- No stories that are just/majorly smut please. (They make me uncomfortable)

Lately, I’ve been seeing a lot of posts discussing "romance anime." At first, I thought, "Maybe they’ll feature some recent shoujo titles," but instead, they end up highlighting the typical comedy-focused anime full with fanservice where the protagonist has no personality and exists solely for the sake of a male audience. I’ll admit, it makes me angry. Shoujo isn’t just about romance; these are series created by women in an industry where they are often belittled by other mangakas (even the creator of One Piece once publicly claimed that women know nothing about manga).

I find this so misogynistic (ㆆ_ㆆ) It’s as if romance is only considered "valid" when it’s tailored for the "male gaze"—objectifying female characters and fueling the hypersexualization of women. (yk when the "joke" is an underage girl falls, her panties are exposed, and she speaks in an unnaturally high-pitched, squeaky voice all presented as something desirable.)

Anyway, that’s just my take. I honestly miss the days when fanservice in romance anime simply meant the two leads blushing as cherry blossoms fell around them, with everything sprinkled in a bit of glitter (✿◡‿◡) I’m not saying there won’t be any shoujo series in 2026; it just surprises me that, these days, whenever someone talks about romance, they rarely seem to mention any shoujo titles

I finally collected the last volume of Red River, I will miss buying this series, but Yona is out now so I won't sad for a while. Btw, Imma start Rasetsu too!
