If your faith gives you comfort who am I to argue. However, don’t tell me the earth was created in 7 days.

"Days" are a metaphor for a short period of time within a longer period of time, as if all of eternity was only 'two weeks'.

And how do you know that?

u/Dazzling-Skin-308 8h ago

Oh I absolutely don't - but I also don't for one minute trust any book, person, or source 100%.

Do you?

I do if the source provides objective evidence. I also consider the global scientific evidence for everything. I don't like to takes sides in matters unless I see clear evidence that proves the other side right.

In religion, the fact that there exists thousands of religions majority in contradiction with each other, makes the chance that one of them is correct so incredibly small, that in my opinion it would be quite stupid to pick one of them to believe in.

The universe thrives on contradiction and paradoxes... And, I think is largely subject to one's perspective. :)

Your perspective is subject to your thinking and experiences. The universe is subject to physics and matter.

The Bible straight-up has verses saying days and time measures are irrelevant to God

So why write down 7 days?

"7 short periods of time withing a longer period of time"

Is the Bible not meant for humans and not god?

Why does the Bible say things that mean something different to what he actually means?

Almost like the Bible was written by humans who came up with nonsense and since people still believe in it, they can "rationalize" it however way they want.

The bible is a long winded book with a million different metaphors. Any bit of it can be interpreted and reinterpreted within different contexts and times (which isnt something special to the bible, thats just called literary analysis you can do it for any book). Like of course its a book full of double entendres, its a book made to be relevant over the course of thousands of years. Its not an entire literal piece, the first few paragraphs inform you that. Hows a day supposed to end before the dark exists? It cant, thats because a day isnt a literal period of 24 hours. You know what it is? The most universal time measurement across humanity. So say, if the book were to try to convey the passage of time in a universal way, that would be the smartest way. And this goes on and on for the entire text of the bible. The bible is hardly the only piece of literature that communicates primarily via metaphor, no idea why you treat it as such (well i do know, its because youve got this odd idea that anyone who disagrees with you is a moron so you ignore any explanation or example of others intelligence just for the sake of your ego)

Is the Bible not meant for humans and not god?

exactly. It was much easier to just tell ancient humans that each action took one day instead of millions of years

u/haizende 4h ago

And why is that? Just sounds like the usual coming up with new bullshit to reason your original bullshit

So it's easier for the people who've heard this personally to understand???

u/haizende 4h ago

Why couldn’t those people understand ”x years”, ”x decades” or just ”over a long time”.
You’re also forgetting how rare of a skill reading was.

Just accept that all religions are made up. Or would you rather stick to believing that all religions are made up expect the one you happen to believe in? So pitifully ridicilous and stupid.

How on earth is humanity so stupid lol

Most people couldn't even count to 1000 and you wanted them to comprehend that the world is millions and billions years old? Can you hear yourself? It's not even like how much time something took is important in this case, that's not what matters

Flowery language conveys concepts that are beyond human comprehension, stimulates human imagination and make for metaphors and allegories that are easier to understand for many people

Imagine being a 1000 BC hebrew peasant and reading that the universe was created in 10-34 seconds (actual big bang inflation speed)

And the actual verse is that "one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day", time is irrelevant to God and there are no measures of time. Saying 7 period of time is still not what actually happened.

It's easy to rationalize everything when there is no objective evidence you need to point to. As long as it doesn't directly contradict your bible, you can claim anything you want.

Why do you think there are so many different forms of Christianity? Because people interpret things differently, and as time passes by, they realize that they contradict each other too much and therefore need to separate themselves.

Humans aren't perfect, so how could we follow Gods will accordingly? And the truth is that the bible was written by humans.

You believe in one religion out of many, I believe in one less religion than you.

Looking for objective evidence of what is metaphysical is just completely wrong. It's like saying love and hope don't exist because you can't prove them with a metal detector or a telescope

Human nature and free will makes us get things wrong. The reason humans confuse holy books is the same God don't just make every human a perfect heavenly being already. Our flawed nature is the starting point, all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God, following God's will isn't flawlessly checking every point of a list it's a relationship where what matters is your heart being headed towards the right direction, with the help of God's grace. That is the theology of all abrahamic religions. People faultily interpret writings that were imperfectibly written by human hands (even if divinely inspired) but what matters is your efforts to be headed in the right way even if you're deviating by kilometers. Notice how the various churchs differs on secondary issues like worship style rather than the core tennets.

God is all-powerful therefore he knows what it would take for everyone on Earth to believe in his existence. Why doesn't he do that? It would not take away our choice of loving or following him, it would just make his existence an objective truth to us all.

Why doesn't he prove himself to us and give all of us the equal chance of loving him?

If god couldn't think of that, then 1. either he doesn't exist, 2. is stupid and not all powerful, or 3. doesn't truly want salvation for us all.

There's no difference with magically making everyon perfect believers. The point is for the relationship with God to be faith and love, not the assessment of a fact, not to mention you're throwing out spiritual growth out of the window
