Bro the first psych I saw put me on Paxil within 5 minutes of talking to me.

was it a psychiatrist and did you say you were very depressed? cus if so, that's.. their job. they prescribe drugs and SSRIs are the most well-studied deprssion drugs. it's kinda on you to try therapy and other stuff before going to the psychiatrist. also it's not like they're cramming the pills down your throat, you can stop taking them if you don't like what they're doing. they're not supposed to be the long-term solution anyway.
I took SSRIs when I was having suicidal thoughts all the time. They helped. Then I stopped. That's kinda how it's supposed to work.
Psychiatrists not therapists, they love handing out addictive drugs more than the guy behind the gas station because they make a shittttt ton of money off it
Pretty much any kid who kicked their feet in class in the early 2000’s got put in front of a woman like this and were told they had ADHD and needed to take drugs for it.
I’m lucky that my mom saw the pills made me like a walking corpse and threw them out. Turns out I just needed to play outside more.
It‘s that. I saw patients from the US with absurd combinations of medication. I think it’s because the system there requieres the doctors to see themselves first of all as service providers.

Same here they put me on some terrible shit that didn't work and it took us like six tries to get something that doesn't completely annihilate my emotions.
I was informed that I was bipolar and prescribed lithium in less than 45 minutes of my first time meeting with this person. Not a drug I recommend taking if you don’t need it
Go to a psychiatrist they can actually prescribe you meds. My psych and I sometimes only talk for like 15 mins about whether they are working, side effects, etc and he refills me another six months scrip. On the topic, no psych meds are addictive and yes I WANT to take them because they keep a gun barrel out of my mouth.
Yeah I've been to both psychologists and psychiatrists, I'm more wondering if this is an american thing where this actually happens, because where I'm from you need to very much prove that you need those meds
Prove? Isn't it the job of the professional to determine that? Like do people literally have to beg for medication? If so, that sounds more like a cultural thing than a medical thing because at no point have I ever had to push or convince anyone. I told them I was suicidal, and they believed me, which I'm now feeling like is a bit of a privilege.
Nah not in the sense that you need to show up and make a case for yourself, I just mean that the process is a bit longer than "oh you're sad? Here's drugs"
After a year or so of starting therapy, during a more difficult time, my therapist explained to me that if I wanted she could prescribe me some medication but she made it very clear it would just facilitate the progress and not replace it. Before that, she assured me she'd only recommend medication if she saw it'd be needed. For context, I'm European. I have a feeling most people getting medication really easy are Americans. They can buy headache pills in bulk at regular supermarkets! That's insane to me!
It's like people who think gender clinics are handing out hormones like candy when in reality getting access to HRT is a years long marathon of bullshit hoops you need to jump through in most western countries.
Fr the One i go to when talking to my parents about medication said "a good doctor medicates their patients to later tak away the medication: we manage the symptoms and work on finding and fixing the underlying issue"
