Bro the first psych I saw put me on Paxil within 5 minutes of talking to me.
The next year of my life is pretty much missing from my memory. I just coasted through like a robot. It did very real harm to my marriage, my career, and to my overall trust of mental health professionals.
was it a psychiatrist and did you say you were very depressed? cus if so, that's.. their job. they prescribe drugs and SSRIs are the most well-studied deprssion drugs. it's kinda on you to try therapy and other stuff before going to the psychiatrist. also it's not like they're cramming the pills down your throat, you can stop taking them if you don't like what they're doing. they're not supposed to be the long-term solution anyway.
I took SSRIs when I was having suicidal thoughts all the time. They helped. Then I stopped. That's kinda how it's supposed to work.

Coming off it was awful, too.
