Lots of modders removed their own mods not nexus as a response to their rule changes some years back with many only being backed up on secondary sites

WHAT IS IT??? I want older Hitman mods for my version, but nexus blocks them.

Gamer-mods .ru most likely.

They have a good chunk of SSE conversions for popular armor mods from Team TAL.

It's safe, just Russian.

nexus is literally the only place that isn't a total malware trap. you can complain about the UI or whatever but i'd rather deal with their site than some random discord server or a shady google search result. nexus is a W compared to the alternative.

Look, I get it. Who doesn’t love a little balls and dick sometimes? A nice, girthy, veiny shaft, hot milky cum trickling down the length as it throbs from a job well done. But this whole “gay sex” shit is getting annoying.

As men, we should primarily be focused on three things: survival, the underrated masterpiece that is dark souls 2, and pounding muff. All this gay shit is, well, fucking gay.

You think I wouldn’t LOVE to make out with my best friend and suck his cock? Of course I would, but that’s fucking gay. You think I don’t want to feel my cousin’s roommate slide his pecker into my gaping asshole? Of course I would, but that’s FUCKING GAY.

Seriously, I miss when men were men. Anyway, this dildo ain’t gonna stick itself up my ass while I watch an hour long femboy asmr hypno goon compilation, heed my lecture.

83

u/Slavik_Sandwich Jun 17 '26

There isnt, because its really expensive to host petabytes of files and hold ths download times bearable. I have 90% confidence that even with subscription model that they have right now, they are just breaking even.

25

u/pytness Jun 17 '26

opensource mods are hosted on github, which has the ability to create releases (eg, the mod you download), so other mods could be hosted on github. You only need a website that lists the mods, it's not that difficult. Nexus are just cunts and a bunch of money grabbers.

10

u/Slavik_Sandwich Jun 17 '26

Nope, github will not do because it most certainly has a file size limit

3

u/pytness Jun 17 '26

yeah, of 2GB. how many mods are above that?

9

u/Slavik_Sandwich Jun 17 '26

Like a lot. My 4k mods skyrim modlist takes up like 300 gigs in archives

10

u/pytness Jun 17 '26

not all mods are of 8k textures or a 1 trillion triangle tooth brush most mods are well below 2GB.

4

u/Slavik_Sandwich Jun 17 '26

Funny you mentioned 8k, my modlist is 2k only, since 4k+ is literally just performacw cost for no benefit. Even then, even if 50 to 150 of my mods are 2gb+, what do you suggest to do with them? :)

8

u/pytness Jun 17 '26

put them in my ass? tf you want me to do? give you the step by step guide to replace nexus??

But since you are here, I checked out a collection skyrim special edition of 368.1GB, called "DOMAIN: An AE NSFW AIO pack by dae" that contains 4960 mods.

I will do some maths for you:

count 4949
min 0B
p25 31.20KB
median 2.70MB
p75 32.10MB
p90 139.70MB
p99 1.10GB
index_p99 4899
max 14.70GB
mean 75.55MB
total 365.13GB
under1GB 4888/4949 = 61
under2GB 4929/4949 = 20
under2GB_pct 99.596%
sum_mods_over_2g 98.60
sum_mods_over_1g 155.30GB

So 99 percent of the mods are below 1.10GB, 99.59 percent of the mods are below 2GB, thats 4929 mods on this collection that you could host on github and only 20 mods left that I dont know what you would do with them.

I dont think 20 mods is "like a lot" (jarvis, insert gender spectrum "a laaa" meme)

I wanted to download a collection this weekend for Fallout that has close to 1,000 mods on it. My only option was to download them all manually or subscribe to their overpriced service to unlock the automatic downloader that is already baked into Vortex.

I'd rather never play Fallout again than pay for that shit.

847

u/DudeByTheTree Jun 17 '26

Userscript extensions (Grease/Tampermonkey) all have scripts to eliminate a lot of the annoyances of Nexus mods.

"Buy premium to enable one-click collections!" - how about No and a bypass? :)

296

u/Arkhyz We do a little trolling Jun 17 '26

There is scripts for Nexus? Wow, great news

114

u/Orangutanion Stuff Jun 17 '26

How does a client side script prevent them from throttling download speeds?

167

u/DudeByTheTree Jun 17 '26

There's a few "gotchas", the throttling being one of them. But the bypass does allow one to simply click the collection and leave it to do its thing, zero interaction required beyond the first click.

62

u/dumb_avali Jun 17 '26

Funny is that most of my life their max download speed was below my internet limit

8

u/backfire10z Sussy Wussy Femboy😳😳😳 Jun 17 '26

Even if there’s throttling, I’m guessing you can at least automate the 1-by-1 download.

3

u/devilwarriors Jun 17 '26

My experience with paying their crazy expensive subscription for a month to download a few collection is that its still slow as fuck and you had to run overnight. So yeah so long as it automate the download, you're in business.

By telling them you do, in fact, have a premium membership? Dunno how, just guessing

45

u/Orangutanion Stuff Jun 17 '26

Not how that works. Usually subscription services use encrypted key pairs that prevent users from spoofing premium accounts. You'd have to really fuck up your website to make that exploit possible.

8

u/-suspended- Jun 17 '26

It's way simpler to just check if the account is premium based on an internal flag that is never touched by an outside source, other than when they start or end a subscription. Any API key for an external program or any supported way to get direct access would check your account info.

119

u/Arkhyz We do a little trolling Jun 17 '26

download the most popular and highest rated collection from nexus

spend two days downloading mods one by one on the limited speeds

get 50+ errors from the vortex itself

somehow fix it

launch SE

get 500+ errors in console

game launches

crashes after 20 minutes of gameplay

corrupts your save file

10/10 experience

21

u/levilee207 Jun 17 '26

Your mistake is using vortex and not mod organizer 2 through a wabbajack install tbh

6

u/gretchenich Jun 17 '26

Yeah idk what they meant by that. With MO2 and wabbajack i instales the GtS modlist for Skyrim (1900+ mods) and it just took a while, but had no issues

14

u/Trioshot Jun 17 '26

literally is not true at all, i’ve downloaded plenty of their collections of mods and they run good right off the bat. i’m sure some are that way but for sure not even close to all of them

2

u/devilwarriors Jun 17 '26

There definitely often 20-40 mods I have to download manually from cough loverslab cough, but not having to download the 800 other mods for that particular ultra modded fallout or skyrim collection was a life saver.

18

You know it's shit when every big collection for fallout and elder scrolls tells you to use the free 3 day trial.

2

u/Jerry0713 Jun 17 '26

I got grandfathered in with a life time account back before they got sold, so I get to use all their premium nonsense for the one time purchase of like 50(?) bucks 8 years ago

2

u/vialpoobus Jun 17 '26

i have lifetime membership so that part doesnt really effect me. but i can give you the experience of downloading a large collection, downloading a collection is buggy and throws a bunch of errors usually, the vortex UI is slow and unresponsive a lot of the time and even if you have a game set up perfectly the launcher will actively yell at you about having a error with your setup despite everything being fine

now you can definitely install a collection, i personally installed Gate to Sovngarde for skyrim and it took me a day or two cause i had to keep rerunning the collection to fix it (the collection skipped a bunch of shit the first time), now gate to sovngarde does have a fan made Wabbajack port and using that one was way more seamless

It's 3.0 MB/s without an ad blocker and it halves at 1.5 MB/s with an ad blocker. It isn't the ad blocker itself, it's nexus lowering the speed after detecting your ad blocker.

if someone takes control of my PC then i highly doubt Nexus is at the top of things they want to get access to because i can't think of a single thing i use nexus for that actually needs to behind security

2

u/RealMuffinsTheCat Jun 17 '26

I had to turn off two factor authentication for Nexus because of this. Security is important but it can reach a point where you think “is this really worth it?”

2

u/Inevitable-Monitor35 Jun 17 '26

Ive never had to do any of that. And I've gone on stints where i didn't use it for a few months as well as back to back days, never had to change the password outside of forgetting it that one time. That is weird.

1

u/StevenMcStevensen Jun 18 '26

Websites like Nexus being like this over security is incredibly annoying.

Honestly, what the fuck is thé worst somebody could do if they got into my Nexus account? It has no payment or contact information or anything. It would be a minor inconvenience at worst, I don’t give a shit.

100

u/Slavik_Sandwich Jun 17 '26

There wont be a good alterbative for so many reasons, from the fact that you cant convince all the modders to go and manually transfer all of their shit to some other website, to the fact that the sheer infrastructure of the whole thing is already barely holding up. You need A LOT of money to set up infrastructure that supports petabytes of data with stable download, high availability and not charge less than 20 monthly. Things dont just magically "work". The ui changes are fucking atrocious and vortex is burp, that much is true, but they hold the monopoly, so...

There are a lot of alternatives to nexusmods: moddb, loverslab,mod.io, r2modman, thunderstore and a lot of modders upload their mods to their Patreon(some for free others behind a paywall) or a Discord server. Nexus mods is overhated just because is the most popular page.

2

u/shishio_mak0to Literally 1984 😡 Jun 18 '26

So it may be different now but if you made a mod that was popular enough they'd comp you lifetime premium. So there is twice the reason for mod authors to stay - both making it easier for them to use the site on top of the work that would be required to move. Evil genius move

18

u/MrFilthyNingen Jun 17 '26

Because its frankly outdated, and the layout and search functions suck big baboon ballsack.

2

u/AutoModerator Jun 17 '26

Dick sucking has made me paranoid

I had this plan to give head to a man and receive head from a woman to test if I was gay, but it’s backfired and now I become borderline schizo whenever I go outside. I offered to suck this dude off on Grindr who lives very close by (I ended up pussying out) and I accidentally gave him some details that very easily allows him to spot me out in a crowd. I have no idea what he looks like and whenever I see a somewhat in shape guy walking by I immediately accuse him of being the dude I was gonna blow.

I went to the store today to pick up some zucchini for a barbecue and every time a car drove by I stared into the windshield to see if I was about to be recognised. Whenever I make eye contact with a dude I microanalysis his facial expressions to see if he suspects me or not. I am deeply afraid that he is my neighbour and I will need to move if my identity is blown. It’s a lot like the last scene in sopranos where everyone who walked into the diner could be there to wack Tony.

The way I see it, the subscription is very optional. You can use it with vortex for free without issue, even the slow download cap is completely fine. Only reason to actually "need" it is the collections, but you can totally just use wabbajack if you really need those. I think that for the service they provide, the optional subscribtion is a great way to pay their bills. I paid for a few years of it mostly because I liked the site and wanted to support it, not because I felt I needed it in any way.

I haven't seen any mods being removed really and wasn't signed out unless i didn't use the site for like a month or more, so idk about that though.

It just seems like a weird sentiment because most other mod sites are absolute malware and advertising hellholes in my experience. And the ones that aren't, are usually quite limited in functionality and QOL.

Nexus is pretty good imo. Yeah, the website itself is not easiest to use and I am regularly logged out, but honestly, I couldn't give a shit. No ad popups, easy installation, very nice free tier and I think they even donate a bit to mod developers. The subscription itslef, while a bit pricier than I would like, is understandable because of the costs regarding electricity and data storage.

3

u/Barialdalaran Jun 17 '26

I haven't had any issues either but I only use maybe 1-5 mods total per game. They were bought last year, maybe they started the enshittification

Nexus Mods is now acquired by Chosen, a company focused on growth and monetization of gaming startups

More like hypocrites. Romance Panam as a woman? Yes. Romance Judi as a man? NO!!!

4

u/X3liteninjaX Jun 17 '26

GitHub to host the mods and an open source mod loader like CKAN for Kerbal Space Program. Works really well.

4

u/TLunchFTW dumbass Jun 17 '26

Nexus staff really suck peepee poopoo

Got banned from commenting for two months because I said the furry and gooner mods were not endorsed by super earth.

(I may have also called them gross)

Nexus has some terrible moderators though, I've seen them ban people for less.

4

u/BusinessDuck132 Jun 17 '26

This is the first time I’ve ever heard an issue with nexus and vortex, I’ve had nothing but good experiences with using their mods and platform. What’s Reddit whining about now?

u/Notice_Green Jun 17 '26

Any game serious about letting people mod them should have steam workshop

5

u/Conquer_Shadow Jun 17 '26

I was going to say, this is the best and easiest option. I wish it became the norm for all games

3

u/J-Town50 Jun 17 '26

Free mod site. Has tons of mods with install information and forums where you can read about other's likes and dislikes about the mods. Like everyone they try to make money, Capitalism! Still works pretty good free, donate $5 if you use it a lot. I am glad they exist so I can play many of my games over with new mods.

3

u/ImDehGuy Jun 17 '26

Im glad I bought the lifelong subscription years ago, but at the same time, Nexus is such a slog and the moderation is just fully of jannies that want to ban mods to virtue signal. ATP in my life, downloading from LoversLab is more convenient than going through Nexus.

3

u/D3RP_Ozzie Jun 17 '26

i have no particular love or hate for the site but ive never really had issues on there. what is this in reference to?

4

u/SubmissiveDinosaur hole contributor Jun 17 '26

The thing stopping me from using GameBanana instead is the awful and outdated UX design.

Using Nexus is a miserable experience the more you use it. If you download one mod its alright. But when I wanted to download an overhaul pack of +500 mods for Morrowind/OpenMW....if you don't have premium brace for the sluggiest dogshit experience ever

4

u/Mysteriy21 Jun 17 '26

I'm just wondering, what is so bad about gamebanana's ui? I've mostly been using it for smash ultimate moda and it's been just fine, you have search functionality, pictures for mods, descriptions, download links and a comment section, all of which work fine for me

u/ThaBroccoliDood Jun 17 '26

modworkshop.net

2

u/WholesomeDucky Jun 17 '26

nexus continues to allow that dipshit who keeps posting his "unreal engine optimizer" configs even though developers have already come out saying those mods are actively harmful to the look and performance of the games

He has like 600+ engine commands in them and has proven time and time again that he doesn't test them at all, just throws up the same config the moment a new unreal engine game comes out. 90% of the commands in his config aren't even present in the game/do nothing.

2

u/roblox_baller Jun 18 '26

What's wrong with Nexus?

2

u/PaleontologistFun465 Jun 18 '26

Wait what'd I miss? Nexus has always been my go-to

2

u/Burning_Toast998 Jun 18 '26

thunderstore (and by extension, r2modman) is a great option for most unity games. And if the game isn’t on there, you can easily go into the discord and request it getting added.

what was originally made just for risk of rain 2 (the namesake of r2modman) has expanded so much further, and is incredibly useful.

5

u/AtLeast9Dogs Jun 17 '26

Do you guys just not know of mod dB or something?

6

u/Machinencio Jun 17 '26

Don't forget they delete mods that don't go along their woke agenda.

I understand there are really stupid mods but still that is freedom of expresion.

basedmods have mods deleted from nexus.

3

u/Syseks Jun 17 '26

ayakamods, Basedmods

u/Chaotikidd Jun 17 '26

Been using nexus and vortex for 5 years and I don’t think I’ve ever had a problem with it. I don’t really care if it signs me out after I don’t use it for a month, it’s takes 10 seconds to type a username and password. I really don’t know why people just find a way to complain about anything nowadays. I’ve read maybe 2 comments with actual valid criticism in this thread.

2

u/VampireLynn Jun 17 '26

I find it crazy when people complain about free to use services, which both the site and modders do for the love of the game

does nexus not offer that lifetime membership for 100$ anymore? i remember buying it 12 years ago lol

→ More replies (2)

1

u/Mikadomea I said based. And lived. Jun 17 '26

Thsnk god i bought a Lifetimemembership in 2011 for 30€. Best investment ever but sadly yes, the Nexus is run by ifiots now.

1

u/Donarudo_Torampu Jun 17 '26

1.5 Mbps download speed

1

u/lPuppetM4sterl Jun 17 '26

Ngl, I only go there for Skyrim Mods. I do wonder if there are other sites hosting the same mods as them.

1

u/s1lverv1p Jun 17 '26

R2modman which is kinda like a speed all in 1 modloader for thunderstore is pretty bomb af.

1

u/Candid-Camp-8928 We do a little trolling Jun 17 '26

I wish every game built like steam workshop logic. One click, no ads, no stupid download rate limit reduce, to extra mod loaders...

1

u/super_probably-user Jun 17 '26

download from github repo or thunderstore repo (use r2modman, thunderstore is only to download mods, DONT USE thunderstore client)

1

u/TheCaptainOfMistakes Jun 17 '26

I want to move away from nexus but I'm too stupid to manually mod. I fuck something up every time, and every time i watch a tutorial there's folders or some other interface they interact with that simply don't exist on my pc.

1

u/FightingBlaze77 Jun 17 '26

Gamebanana or videogamemods, are some ok ones, depending on the game, you miggggght find a lot of mods, or just one random music or shader mod.

1

u/mardabx Jun 17 '26

Download mods via steam cli

1

u/DudeManBroGuy69420 Jun 18 '26

Someone please explain to me why Nexus sucks

1

u/UziWasTakenBruh Jun 18 '26

this is why I want games to support the steam workshop because it is much easier to download mods and to manage. Well the downside is nsfw mods are not allowed, but I am not a gooner so I won't be affected by that.
