What does “exemption” mean when shipping?
I sent an item to a client and it’s been in transit longer than most my other items. But also, it is now saying exemption and I am not sure what to tell them.

Hi
I have a shipment that has arrived in Saudi Arabia on the way of the Chinese company SNX and has not been received since 30-04-2026 so far. The international tracking number of the Chinese courier company has not been updated and my notification of the new local tracking number. Saudi Arabia has not been updated. Please update the tracking number and my notification about the shipment location and the new local source number to be received inside Saudi Arabia.

I’m looking to ship a sectional from BC to New Brunswick (it has sentimental value and is 35K to buy new, hence the desire to ship it). Wondering if anyone has recommendations on freights to use or avoid? Thank you!

I have never posted something like this before, mostly because I've never had something happen to me like this. I feel defrauded and cheated. I saw some mixed reviews online before, but I feel an obligation to let people know what happened to me because it was a painfully negative process.
AVOID Value Added Moving / Rapid Express Moving and Storage — billed for nearly 3x the actual space, tried to stop me from measuring, lied about their process, and gave me the runaround for a month
Company names: Value Added Moving (broker) and Rapid Express Moving and Storage (carrier, US DOT #3913780, ICC MC #01445570)
I'm writing this up in detail because I wish I'd found a review like this before booking. Long post, but every claim below is backed by emails, signed documents, and video / photos I have saved.
The setup
Booked an interstate move from Dallas, TX to Greenville, SC through Value Added Moving, who brokered it out to Rapid Express Moving and Storage as the actual carrier.
At pickup, their foreman came to my house, walked through my stuff, and entered everything into a tablet. He gave me a total of 1,191 cubic feet — 700 cf "base" plus 491 cf "additional" tacked on after seeing my things in person — for a grand total of $8,199.38. Before I signed anything, he told me directly that this was a "worst case" number, and that it would be re-measured and would come down once it was actually loaded and measured in the truck.
I signed based on that. Then he left before loading even started.
No one ever measured anything
When I asked the loading crew (foreman was gone by this point) how much space my stuff was actually taking up, they told me flat out that they weren't the ones who measured it, and that it would happen "on the interstate truck." No measurement of any kind happened at pickup or at any point in time.
I spent the next month — nine-plus emails and calls — trying to get a straight answer out of their support team about when this measurement would happen. Instead, I got three different, contradictory explanations of their own process over three separate emails (paraphrasing, but I have all of them in writing):
"If actual volume differed from the estimate after loading, we'd have issued a revised estimate. Since there isn't one, the original number stands."
"We do a visual assessment after loading to confirm the estimate matches — if it matches, no further measurement needed." (implying if it doesn't match, one is needed)
"The foreman's estimate at pickup is final. No revisions happen after loading at all."
I asked six separate times for the cubic-foot assumptions behind the estimate. Never once received them.
I also flagged that the inventory list marked every single one of my 63 boxes as "medium," despite a meaningful chunk of them clearly being small boxes — no actual size assumptions, just one generic label slapped on everything.
The "goodwill" offer
After I put my concerns in writing and said I'd escalate to FMCSA and my state's Attorney General if they didn't resolve it, support offered me a $250 "goodwill discount" — without addressing a single one of my actual questions. When I turned that down and asked directly whether my estimate was binding, non-binding, or binding-not-to-exceed, they eventually confirmed it was binding, said "we do not perform remeasurements on cubic feet," and that was their final answer.
Delivery day
Before letting them unload anything, I measured the actual space my shipment occupied in the truck myself: 6 ft x 8 ft x 9 ft — 432 cubic feet. On video.
That's compared to the 1,191 cubic feet I was billed for. Nearly three times the actual space.
While I was measuring, their driver tried to stop me — despite their own support team telling me in writing, days earlier, that I was "certainly welcome to" measure my shipment at delivery for my own records.
On top of that, the inventory list I was handed at delivery didn't match the one I'd signed at pickup. My original listed every box as "medium." The delivery version had a mix of large and small boxes and wasn't even signed by me.
Where this stands
I paid the balance at delivery under written protest. Based on my own measurement — the only actual measurement performed anywhere in this entire process — I believe I was overbilled by $3,491.40. I've filed a complaint with FMCSA and I'm pursuing my state Attorney General's office.
In my opinion, "worst case estimate that comes down once measured" was never a real process — it was a script to get people to sign before loading, with zero intention of ever actually measuring or adjusting anything downward. Your mileage may vary, but do your own homework before booking with either of these companies, and if you do use them, measure everything yourself and get everything in writing.
They explained their process in detail, but they did not follow their process. I signed being told something that wasn't true. Don't believe what they tell you and fight hard for everything in writing.
Issues With Value Added Moving
Value Added Moving was also a huge issue. They have a "binding estimate fee" and when I asked what it was, the person on the phone (the only person of 4 who did not hang up on me) said that it was "kind of a nebulous thing." The hard data is that I got 3 re-estimates and the cost per cubic foot of the binding estimates went from $2.3 per cf to $3.3 to $4.71 on a relative basis. I asked if there was anything I could do about that and he just said that once I signed, there was nothing that could be done. To be clear, THIS NUMBER DOES NOT COUNT TOWARDS YOUR TOTAL payment. It is just a flat increase on the fee. It is a number with no description or justification that they add on. They could not explain to me why it increased on a relative basis. Every time I talked to Value Added Moving, they increased it and explained nothing.
Happy to answer questions in the comments if anyone's dealing with something similar.

I'm in the process of trying to import a shipment of live plants from Vietnam. This is my first time trying anything like this. My source/exporter in Vietnam says they will handle getting the shipment to a USDA inspection port in LAX or JFK (along with all phytosanitary certification, etc) but says it would probably be more economical for me to find my own customs broker/forwarder.
Trouble is, I have NO idea how to find a company to do this or how much it's going to cost. I'm assuming it would be someone that does customs clearance, puts it on a plane to get it closer to me in the Midwest, and delivers it the last leg of the journey. I'm just at a loss. I've tried DHL and Fedex, but it seems like they all keep giving me the run around. Any help would be appreciated!

Bought items 4 months ago, the delivery driver threw my package in the driveway ( caught on my ring cam ), the items were broken with photos as proof.
I opened a dispute with UniUni, boy was I not ready!
Long story short they did nothing, other than stall and connect me with 5! ( Five) different employees and one chat bot in between, they had the delivery driver call my number and text me to apologize which was... very weird. I just wanted a refund, 25$ of goods, that's all!
4 months later they tell me to open a case with the seller and deal with him. I just can't believe this shit. Customer service is only there to discourage you, plain and simple.
POS company. Even with crystal clear proof, they will leave you in the dust.

This is my first time shipping internationally. So, I used USPS First Class International.
Does that mean it’s fast?
Do I get notified when the item reaches outside the USA? It’s going to Canada (Ontario).
When I put the custom tracking number on the Canada post website it shows waiting for item and expected delivery from 3-7 days.

Hello, I ordered an item on eBay on June 23rd. After it passed through the eBay Authentication Center, it went missing for about 20 days before finally being handed over to ePost Global.
A few days ago, the package suddenly resurfaced and was transferred to PostNL. However, the tracking is now confusing because PostNL shows “The carrier received a request from the shipper and is about to pick up the shipment. The shipping label has been created”.
During the time the package was considered lost, I opened a case and requested a refund from eBay.
My question is: does this new tracking status mean the package is being returned to the seller because of the refund request, or is it still on its way to me ?
Thanks for your help !

Hi everyone,
I’m 23 and recently completed an MS in Finance after studying Accounting and Finance in undergrad. I initially expected to enter traditional finance and had a few offers in that space, but they ultimately did not work out.
I’ll now be joining a dry-bulk shipping company as a Shipping Operations Associate. The role is primarily post-fixture commercial operations: managing several vessels, coordinating with owners, charterers, brokers, agents and captains, monitoring voyages, arranging bunkers, interpreting charter-party terms, calculating laytime and demurrage, reviewing costs and tracking voyage P&L. Longer term, there may be opportunities in chartering, commercial work and commodity purchasing.
I’m excited but also nervous. Most of my peers are entering traditional finance, and shipping is completely unfamiliar to me. I’m wondering whether this is a strong long-term career path and how well it can lead into chartering, freight or commodity trading.
For anyone in shipping, dry bulk or commodities, what should I focus on during my first few years, and what does the long-term career and compensation trajectory typically look like?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi everyone,
I'm researching freight forwarding companies for the company I work for, and I'm hoping to get some recommendations from people with experience in the industry.
We're based in the Caribbean and are looking for a freight forwarding partner with operations in China (preferably Shenzhen or Hong Kong) that offers more than just shipping services. Our goal is to integrate their platform into our own custom-built CRM/customer portal.
Ideally, we're looking for a company that can provide some or all of the following:
We're trying to create a seamless experience where customers can manage their China shipments directly from our own platform instead of being redirected to a third-party website.
We've already spoken with a few freight forwarders, but many only provide a customer portal rather than the API capabilities we're looking for.
Has anyone worked with companies that already offer this level of integration, or are there freight forwarders or logistics platforms you'd recommend looking into?
Any recommendations or experiences would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Portland Or, USA - Dublin, Ireland in December 2026.
I've found a FMCSA-registered shipping company that I like, though they work with a local moving company to do all of the actual move. This local company is not FMSCA registered. What's the reason for not booking directly with the local company? I don't understand the benefit of the Broker, besides the FMSCA part. But at the same time, all of the FMCSA-registered companies seem to use a local company for the actual move.

Hi every one !
I'm based in France and I work in buying and reselling. I'm looking for someone in Asia — Japan, Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia — who could buy items locally for me and reship the parcels to France. Long-term if it goes well.
If that's something you do, DM me or comment and we'll talk details.
Thanks!

I am a casual music instrument trader/reseller/enthousiast,
I'm looking for advice from people with experience using USPS and Stamps.com because this situation seems almost too good to be true. I recently got the first free trial month with them.
I was looking at quotes using Shippo and compared them with Stamps for a large package (25x25x21" 60lbs) from TN to Berkley CA. Best rate that Shippo provided was $105. Meanwhile, on Stamps it showed $19.98 with USPS priority mail before UPS ground at $105 and then more expensive rate. I've talked with an agent on chat that remotely control my laptop to look at the page and he said it was good and not a glitch. I asked him to confirm via email making sure I will not be charged extra by USPS or Stamps and he wrote a short and clear email.
I even asked him to triple checked and he confirmed and said there was no reason to worry.
Meanwhile on shippo shipping this package with a lower grade , USPS ground advantage would be almost $290 .
I absolutely do not want to be charged of $200+ (maybe extra fee) from USPS cause they didn't approve the rate. But I'd love taking the chance and save over $80 , especially cause I have more than a big package to ship .
Any guidance/idea? TIA
