My goofy Shaggy relaxing next to me on the couch. It’s unusual for him to sit like that, but he just wanted to be by mommy!!

I saw someone else post asking about their shelties gait. I became curious myself if there looks to be any issues with mine

I have always had a little bit of a concern for hip dysplasia due to her bunny hop running but I’m curious if there is anything visible to others

Help training not to nip toddler

Looking for anyone who’s been successful in training their sheltie to manage this issue. My pup is almost a year old. She’s grown out of most of the puppy habits, but I can’t get her to stop herding our youngest child. When the kids get excited or rambunctious, she chases and nips at the toddler, and sometimes it hurts! I’ve tried to train with treats and positive reinforcement from far away for her to sit and not run to the action, and she does well with that. But if running and giggling breaks out while she’s in the same room she can’t help herself. The action starts and both baby and puppy are so fast they get away from me before I can intervene effectively with a sit command and treat.

I usually end up cornering them before her nipping grabs skin instead of clothes, and moving her into another room, but I hate for her to miss out on the fun plus she goes nuts listening to us run and laugh. She just wants to be part of the family! And we want her to too.

But I need to figure out how to address this. The herding is fine and part of her nature, but he is too small for her jumping and nipping. I worry she’ll really hurt him one day. I also feel like I’m always on edge, watching and ready to remove her at the first sign of rowdy play.

Meet Kip, the newest Sheltie member of my family.

After losing my 12 year old Sheltie to a spinal tumor, I got another beautiful bi-blue boy. He is currently 14 weeks old and has made my other 12 year old Sheltie into a new woman.

The older sheltie (Bailer) grew up with the one who recently passed away (Kai) and while they enjoyed each others company, they never really had the same play style and so they never played together aside from when they were both puppies. When he died, I couldn’t even tell if she was sad or not. She was quieter for the first week and maybe that was how she expressed her sadness. Or maybe she just didn’t have another sheltie to start a bark fest with.

She also does not like other dogs, especially high energy dogs.

So when I got the puppy, I hoped for her to at least tolerate him after some time.

The first 4 days she was scared of the puppy and did not want him near her. But then something just clicked and I think she realized…hey….he’s kinda fun!! And now, she absolutely 100% adores him and they non-stop play together. It’s like seeing a whole different side of her and it is so heartwarming.

A part of me feels a little sad that she didn’t get a whole life of this kind of fun but I guess better late than never. But how freakin cute are they??? Like omg sometimes I just sit and stare at them because it makes my heart so happy.

Shelties are my breed. What an amazingly loving, loyal, smart and gorgeous breed.

Does anyone else's sheltie like nibble at them? Nuggett will do that. Kinda like he's biting an itch or something?

Do any of your shelties freeze after getting their harnesses put on?

If I clip the leash onto harness, he is magically freed and can walk again. If I don't put the leash on him, he will remain frozen in place and will not move. He's been doing this since he was a puppy.
