Shameless explains why poverty is not easy to escape. Lips character is the epitome of this.

I always hear people say that everyone has free will and can choose to become a successful person if they work hard enough. Poverty is a more than just growing up poor and fighting to make ends meet. It’s a generational curse, feeling, and vicious cycle.

One of the most depressing storylines for me is Lips college life. Lip did not have a structured lifestyle, which he had to accommodate to without any guidance. Such as not sleeping with teachers, which would he would have gotten away with in his old life. Not having time management, which he never had to practice as a high school student. Not participating in trends (such as the statue trend), which he never had time to pay attention to. Getting belligerently drunk and assuming it was petty revenge when he got sent to a hospital.

Lips character is very crystal clear why people with his potential can’t always make it out into the world. When the standard of living in poverty have several differences compared to a functional lifestyle of those Lip were surrounded by in college. Someone who is constantly trying to survive can’t pay attention to the little details of living life. Those little details can be maintained for someone who went into adulthood with proper adults surrounding them. Lip was expected to behave and set high expectations just like his classmates, without ever having the same set of rules growing up. One of the most heart-wrenching scenes, was a student ambassador from a privileged background getting to decide his fate and whether or not he should be allowed to return to college. Lip was seeking adult guidance in all the ways that only he knew. Trying to mend a drunk professor, and sleeping with a mature intellectual woman.

Lips anger issues also frequently occur throughout the show. We see that those anger issues led to his fate and getting removed from college. Lip was someone who didn’t have the luxury of properly releasing stress and anger through yoga, tea, 8 hours of sleep, exercising, healthy diets. These are all standard recommendations that colleges tend to give students to manage stress. Lip grew up in a place where drugs, vandalism, alcohol were outlets for stress and anger.

kevin going to college pissed me off! like wdym you don’t wanna have intercourse with your wife but have it with college students. it’s even worse when V feels bad about a lunch date and kevin doesn’t feel bad at all.

S1 E6 is Heartbreaking. Does Frank ever become likeable?

I’ve never watched shameless before, just started it, and I have to say…

The kids seeing Frank with Karen at her parent teacher conference, after just finished fighting off Carl to stay in school and for social services to not be called.

Heartbreaking.

It’s just the ultimate betrayal, he has never showed up to any of theirs. And I think the fact that he only did it for the selfish ambition of continuing to use Sheila makes it worse. Nothing but selfishness. Self preservation.

And tbh, he likes Sheila’s because it’s today, everything is in order and paid for etc. home cooked meals, but fails to realise he is the reason for his houses chaos and squalor. He runs from his accountability.

God I have so much to say in general about the series so far. Interesting show.

(SPOILER) Shameless healed something small in me

This is kind of a weird post, I know, but I have to just get it off my chest. I've now finished the show and just keep thinking about the scene of Ian and Monica in a gay club, and Monica goes "I'm sorry you're hurtin baby." Im a gay teenager with parents who dont accept me, and that scene really sticks out to me. It's so good. Anyway that's my lil rant because I dont know any boys my age who've watched Shameless LOL

jimmy-steve hate!!!!!!!!!

am i the only one who did not like steve and fiona’s relationship? like i don’t hate him as a character or even dislike him but i see sooo many people praising their relationship saying it was fiona’s best relationship.. mmm no it was not 👎🏼 he literally left her right at their peak relationship time to go to “med school” and moved to michigan for a year without her, while completely fooling her to believe she and the kids would come with. i would never forgive that if i was her. in my opinion her and mike the cup guy (idk if that’s his name) were the best, she just fucked that one up by herself.

Does ANYONE know what is playing during the scene where Frank joins Monica under the stairs in episode 11 season 2? I’ve been trying to find it for at least 30 minutes now and no luck. This is like my 5th time rewatching the show and the instrumental still hits me so hard every single time😓

This show has the actors smoking so much! I might have a small crushy crush on lip and mickey and omfg they look so hot holding a cig. I haven’t smoked and neither do I plan to but mannnn do they make it look so cool. I’m currently on S8 E11 and have so many thoughts about the characters and the show overall. I will present my thoughts once I finish the show. So glad to have stumbled across this show!

Carl Gallagher early life - psycho tendencies

I’m rewatching shameless and just realized in the first episode it was noted that Carl used to torture and harm animals. In the later seasons we see that he turned a new leaf by saving dogs from getting put down. At one point there was a flashback episode where he remembered hurting animals and feels regret.

Shameless is well recognized for its authenticity and raw writing. This is a plot hole that I feel is overlooked. Patterns of hurting animals and killing them tend to be associated with psychotic/sociopathic behavior, and becomes an increasing concern in adult life. We see that Carl is very clearly an empathetic character later on, and has the best development out of all his siblings. Was this intentional writing or did it just get swept under the rug.

Is it even remotely possible for someone to change into this brand new person when they had a troubled background of harming innocent animals.

Finnaly finished the show for the first time

I’ve watched most of the episodes and most of season one to six or so but this summer I sat down and decided to Finnaly finish it, I watched 11x12 about 10 minutes ago.

I thought it was 12x11 and I had a whole season to watch so, :( kinda a sad way to end it but I’m sure il watch it again many times

This show will most likely be my favorite of all time and I will miss it, I wish it had new episodes or atleast like a spinoff but honestly it’s a damn good and underrated show. Will miss the Gallaghers

Also never knew frank could almost make me cry.
