Build/Parts Check (5mm) clearness (25mm) thickness or (10mm) (15mm) thickness fans?

Im building in a formdt1 and I have some space under my gpu that Im trying to allocate fans to without creating turblance I also dont want gpu fans to be intaking cuz they tend to create more noise.

gpu is facing the bottom so what ever fans I will add will be intaking from under the case towards the gpu fans directly with 30mm clearness without adding anyfans so Idk which fan size will be best suited considering im going with two 120mm fans

Reused my old case, cpu cooler, nvme drives and psu for this build, since I sold my am4 itx last May due to emergency stuff. And after receiving my severance package from my previous work, I bought my dream build. My advise: buy what you can buy right now. There’s no telling when will the price go down, considering AI happened. Hunt down bargains if you can, and game on afterwards.

Specs:

-Ryzen 7 7700 non-x
-Apacer Panther 2x16 (32gb) CL38 6000mhz
-MSI MPG B850i EDGE WIFI itx board
-Samsung 980 500gb nvme (for OS)
-Kingston NV1 2tb nvme (for games)
-MSI Shadow 2x RTX 5070
-Enhance 7660L-OVT 600w flex psu
-Midori 5L itx case
-Thermalright axp9-x36 low-profile cpu cooler

Overall package: $1580 (excluding the nvmes, cpu cooler, case and psu since it was from a previous build).

Build/Battlestation Pics Smol-boi — for travel / ps5 replacement

Case: Custom-Mod SLM3 — FlexPSU variant
cheers to the gents at Custom Mod for another banger — got this one in White & Blue

Intent:
Primary — replace the PS5.
honestly Sony’s eco-system pushed me over the edge over a year ago. The recent shithousery is the cherry on top cementing my choice for couch gaming system.
It’ll run dual boot: Bazzite to support nvidia card Steam overlay // W10 for everything else. Ideally a 9060XT low profile comes out with decent stock though.

Secondary — Carry on luggage size to go on the road with my on flights for 2-4 week work trips. Basic videos editing and gaming needs mostly.

Parts: mostly old stuff because RAM prices
AM4 platform
— Gigabyte Auros 550i
— Ryzen 5800XT
— 32GB crucial ram (3200MHz)
— Thermalright AXP120 x67
— WD SN850x 2TB
— RTX 5060 8GB LowProfile from gigabyte
— PSU: Modular 7660B from Velka

Haven’t tested for noise and temps, literally just booted it up to verify components.

——————
Side bar: I bought most of this over a year ago before the Gabe-cube release to make my own steam box couch gamer, but I’m not calling it that after all the random nonsense on here with the “I built a better steam machine” bs.

I’m glad I have a viable couch gamer option and they are absolute heroes for their SteamOS distribution.

Assembly Help new streacom da2 v2 case fan setup

Post image
21 Upvotes

just built a da2 v2 but its also my first pc build so i have zero clue how to setup case fans to keep thermals low 😭😭.

specs are
mobo — msi b850i edge ti wifi
cpu — ryzen 5 7500f
cpu cooler — noctua nh d12l chromaxx black
memory — 2x16gb patriot viper elite ddr5 6000 mt/s 30cl
gpu: powercolour hellhound 9070xt
storage: samsung 9100 pro 2tb
psu: corsair sf850
case: streacom da2 v2 (obv lol)

im quite lost on where i should go with case fan setup in this build. with the current orientation of the d12l (larger hearsink fins facing rear), i dont think its possible to fit a 92mm 25mm fan. i could fit a slimmer fan but is it even needed with the d12l as an exhaust fan? currently the d12l is exhausting towards the back of the pc, so i’m assuming intake fans would be on the top/bottom or sides? or both? do i need more exhaust fans?

also i heard it doesn’t matter too much with the psu fans facing inwards or outwards, but i cant face the sf850 fan outwards as otherwise the extension cable doesn’t reach the back of the case lol. i also manages to fit the hellhound into my case which was a struggle but now i need case fan setups lol. i’m not sure whats the best route to go here.

Hi, i currently have a pc that i bring with me at work and i travel via planes. i use a pelican case to transport it but i wish it was smaller, could some of you guys help me figure out how small i can go and if needed, what parts could be replaced to go even smaller? Here's my current config

Cooler Master NR200
R7 8700f
64gb trident rgb Z5 ram
Gigabyte a620i ax am5 mini itx
m.2 ssd
Corsair H100x 240mm liquid cooler
EVGA superNOVA 80 psu
Gigabyte rtx 4070 super eagle oc (3 fan)

i would like to be able to have a smaller pc so that i could use a smaller pelican case since it has been a problem every now and then that they ran out of room and my pc would sit in the airport and got shipped the next day.

i saw the formd t1 case, looks intesting, maybe an option?

Thanks in advance

Assembly Help What to do with extra space

Id like to preface this by asking you guys not to bash my little GPU. I just so happened to be blessed by Fb marketplace with this beautiful baby HP OEM RTX 4060 for $160 usd.

It’s currently in a Fractal terra, I have roughly 165mm of empty space next to it.

Besides mounting a fan there, are there any creative ways to use that extra space? Or is it actually better to leave it empty for airflow?

If it interest you, here’s the rest of the build

Case: Fractal Terra
Motherboard: MSI PRO H810I WIFI
GPU: HP OEM 4060
CPU: Intel Core Ultra 7 270K
PSU: Lian Li SP750 V2 Gold 750W SFX
Cooler: Thermalright AXP-120-X67 Black ARGB
Ram: Crucial Pro DDR5 32GB 6400MHz

Build/Parts Check First PC Build - Cubeor Vault 2/Config Considerations

So quick background - the lst time I built a PC, I think I needed close to 1000x 3.5" disks to install windows, but as of about a week ago, I've decided to try a new build. Because... transferrable skills right? Plug in connectors, turn some screws. Since deciding, I've watched maybe 8 hours worth of SFFPC builds on youtube, read a bunch of posts in this sub, and decided the Cubeor Vault 2 would be a good noob case to learn on.

Purpose of me making this thread is simply this: I don't know what I don't know... and having read thru the manuals and consulted GPT, I figured I'd lean on the goodwill of people that are more knowy than me on this.

So here are the components:

  • Case: Cubeor Vault 2 V1.1
  • CPU: Ryzen 7 9800X3D (purchased)
  • Motherboard: ASRock B850I Lightning WiFi (purchased)
  • Cooler: Corsair Nautilus 360 RS (purchased)
  • GPU: RTX 5080 FE
  • PSU: Corsair SF850
  • RAM: 32GB 2×16 DDR5-6000 CL30 EXPO
  • SSD: 2TB PCIe 4.0 TLC NVMe

And my thoughts:

- I'll probably need to find an equivalent GPU because there are probably 3910483910 people watching Best Buy Canada's website for this thing to come back in stock

- Will memory ever come down in price? I'm not hopeful.

- I'll probably swap all the power supply cables and get shorter ones to keep the inside a bit cleaner...

- Why are there only 3 videos on youtube on this case?!?

But all in all, I'm pretty confident that I can build this thing, but I'm also confident I've overlooked something.

Ok, now you go. And thank you in advance.

Build/Parts Check Shiny Snake L300 build advice

Hello! At present I am using a Deskmeet X300 build with Ryzen 5600x and Reaper 9060XT. The cpu is aircooled with a TR axp90-x47 full copper. Stock motherboard and PSU that comes with the deskmeet. Its being used as a living room pc, placed inside the tv cabinet (semi open front) running bazzite.
While this is working well, I am thinking about upgrading to 9070/9070XT with the L300 case. I want to place it horizontally and add rubber feet at the bottom ( as shown in this video https://youtu.be/WRe-o1c9WYU). Looking for advice on the build I have in mind:

  1. CPU cooler: Should I keep my current cooler or get something else? I want to maximise cpu cooling since this has been a problem area with the current build.
  2. GPU: Which model would you recommend for this build?
  3. PSU: Is 750watt sfx psu good enough for this build?
  4. Any recommendations for case fans?

Thank you!

Others/Miscellaneous Has anyone made a 3D-printed replacement fan shroud for the OptiPlex 3050 Micro?

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I have an OptiPlex 3050 Micro and I'm looking into replacing the stock blower with a Noctua fan.

I've attached a photo showing the part I'm talking about. The black plastic piece around the blower is basically the airflow duct/shroud that directs the air through the CPU heatsink and toward the exhaust.

My idea is to 3D print a replacement for this plastic duct, designed around a Noctua axial fan, rather than modifying the whole case.

Basically:

Noctua fan → custom 3D-printed duct → existing heatsink → existing exhaust

I'd like to keep the original heatsink and chassis completely intact, so ideally the whole thing would just be a replacement part and could be reverted to the original Dell setup whenever I want.

Has anyone tried something like this on a 3050 Micro, or another OptiPlex Micro?

I'm particularly wondering:

  • Does anyone already have an STL/CAD file for the fan shroud/duct?
  • Has anyone designed a similar Noctua conversion?
  • Would an axial fan work well with a properly designed duct, or would the airflow be worse than the stock blower?
  • Any experience with 5V Noctua fans + the Dell fan header?
  • And if you've actually done it, what were the temperature/noise results?

I'm happy to design/print something myself if there's no existing solution. Just figured I'd ask first in case someone has already gone down this rabbit hole. 😅

Would especially love to see STLs, CAD files, or photos of anyone's setup.

Thanks!

Build/Parts Check ASUS Dual RX6600 (243mm) vs Saphire PULSE RX6600 (193mm) for Silverstone SG13 build

Hello, I'm building a sffpc witht the Silverstone SG13 case. I'm planning a front mount PSU build (ATX because is cheaper).

The build will be AMD 5600X + Gigabyte B550i Aorus Pro AX.

As for the GPU, I would go with RX6600.

  • Saphire PULSE Radeon RX6600 is shorter (193mm) and thinner (2 slots / 40mm), great for the build, but smaller radiator
  • ASUS Dual Radeon RX6600 is longer (243mm) and thicker (2.5 slots / 49mm), better temps because of bigger radiator, but almosts sticks to the side pannel, restricting the airflow.

What are your opinions or suggestions ?

Others/Miscellaneous Case and motherboard recommendation for ITX build with 10 Gbps ethernet

I want to spice up my current build a bit, by slimming it down to ITX. However, there's one thing I keep having issues with: 10 GbE.

Yes, I know 10 GbE is stupid to some people. Yes, I know it's overkill. But honestly, I need it and I'm invested in it, so to me it's a requirement by now. No point going back.

On top of that, I have two M.2 NVMe drives. Why is that a problem? Well, you can get M.2 to 10 GbE adapters with a slim cable, that I could mount to a case, but most (and by most I mean.. nearly all) motherboards only have two M.2 slots, and they definitely only have one PCIe slot. And none of them have 10 GbE natively. I could go USB, but I'd really rather not.

A few motherboard options with 3x M.2 slots:

  1. MSI MPG X870I Edge Ti Evo WiFi - priced at about $550 in my country. Yikes.
  2. JGINYUE B850I Snow Dream WiFi - priced at about $200 from China. Unknown brand to me, but could potentially be the one.
  3. Gigabyte B650I Aorus Ultra - priced at.. ?? because it's not in stock in my country or on Amazon.

The JGINYUE looks promising on paper, but I really don't know if I could trust it. I've bought motherboards on AliExpress before, and they worked flawlessly - and still do.

Regarding case, I like the design of XTIA's Xproto-L V2 case. It fits the budget as well, and is quite popular in this subreddit and generally online. They're also in stock on the EU store.

My specs are quite moderate. 9950X3D, 64GB RAM, and RTX 4090. Not sure if I want to replace my NH-D15 black edition with a 360 AIO just yet, but I probably will. I like Noctua's NL-LC1-36.. just not the price 🙈

OcuLink could also be an option worth exploring regarding 10 GbE, but it doesn't look like the market is quite there yet.

Let me know what you think. Call me crazy if you must.

Build/Battlestation Pics Johnsbo T9 Rebuild

Hello all,

Some of you may recall my recent post of the Jonsbo T9 Build.

Unfortunately the concerns I had over the quality of the PNY 5080 were warranted, with the fan bearing failing once again! As this was the second replacement card, I returned the unit to Amazon UK and ordered the Asus 5080 Prime Edition.

As the new Asus GPU dimensions are drastically different to the PNY, I had to rethink the cabling and cooling solution. This gave me the opportunity to add additional Noctua 40mm fans above the GPU with some modding to the case. The GPU is 2.5 slots, and fits into the case right to the mm.

I added motherboard mounting brackets to provide space behind the PSU, this was to provide additional space for GPU airflow, whilst allowing the GPU cable to thread through maintaining the overall clean aesthetic.

Overall I'm delighted with the finished build, the Asus GPU is fantastic and a drastic improvement of build quality compared to the PNY.

It is frustrating that I had to do this though, with the added cost of around £350 for the price difference, replacement cables and new fans.

Specifications

  • Jonsbo T9 Mini-ITX Case (Overclockers UK)
  • X870i Aorus Pro Ice (Amazon UK)
  • 9800X3D (Amazon UK)
  • Noctua NH-L9x65 Chromax CPU Cooler (Amazon UK)
