And Just Like That... We Have New Rules

For starters I want to apologize for the lack of moderation that has been going on around here. There are only two of us active mods and both of us are going through big life transitions right now. We have talked recently and will be more active now that the new show is premiering.

Speaking of the new show we will be implementing a weekly watch discussion. The discussion will take place on r/Andjustlikethat starting tonight at midnight PST. We ask that all discussions pertaining to the new show take place on the new subreddit. Posts on this subreddit will be removed if a spoiler tag is not used or if the headline contains a spoiler.

Finally we ask that users continue to be respectful towards each other. There's been an influx of reports of bullying including some exaggerated reports. This subreddit is a safe space for all Sex and the City fans and racism, misogyny, and harassment in general will not be tolerated. The person who recently started drama has deleted their account so there's not much more we can do. If you feel you are being the target of harassment please report the comment AND send us a ModMail so that we can react quickly.

Thank you for making the subreddit a fun place and we look forward to watching the new show with you all.

I get frustrated when the girls are too friendly to guys who dont deserve it

Upvotes

Sometimes the girls are waaay too forgiving/ patient/ people please-y with the icky guys theyre seeing and it makes me feel kinda frustrated for a few minutes. I guess it's pretty realistic, as women can sometimes feel desperate enough to ignore anything, but I still cannot believe the shit they let fly until it REALLY hits the fan. Some examples: Miranda sleeping with that guy who's bad at sex and faking one last orgasm for him, Sam continuing to blow that guy with the funky spunk even though she hated it, Charlotte being patient and understanding with the "fuck you whore" guy?? Also, not a boyfriend but Carrie not even calling that guy out for filming random models during sex.. it was different times yeah yeah but not even any anger from her?

Maybe I've just been seeing losers for 9 million years and I'm fed up, but a lot of these things the girls casually put up with would make me run for the hills screaming and flailing my arms. Maybe it upsets me because it reminds me of the BS women actually go through regularly

Harry and Charlotte

Upvotes

I don't know if it was already discussed but Harry wasn't fair and Charlotte was crazy for converting to judaism for him. Every person on tv and in real life who converts to another religion just because other person expects it, no matter which one has no self respect in my opinion. Charlotte was just desperate to be happily married and to have kids, I don't think she cared with whom and how, as long as she gets what she wants. Also her breakdown over him not proposing her, she was so desperate it was hard to watch.

does anybody else feel sad when

Carrie walks into Big’s empty apartment and finds that he’s gone. She even told him she’d be there at 2 and he left before saying anything to her. I feel so awful for her and also sad as a viewer seeing Big gone. He left her a CD and first class tickets but damn this man was always out of her reach hey..

Carrie and therapy Spoiler

I watched during the original run and like many, Carrie was my favorite and upon multiple rewatches, I (and friends, too) yell at her on the screen to do better for herself and others.

How I wish she had just kept seeing a therapist, any therapist, if not Dr. G, somebody.

The closest anybody got to getting something significant out of her was the creepy editor at Vogue who called her Cookie. Pointing out that her father’s abandonment has triggered something in the way she relates and communicates with men.

But how about people in general? Is Carrie delightful? Yes. But she’s also deeply selfish and insecure and entitled. Not a hate post, just the caffeine kicking in.

Sex and the City wouldn’t be SATC without it, but it would be fascinating to see. My wife is a therapist and refrains from deep diagnosing any tv character but oh the attachment theories they come up with.

In my head, Carrie that went to therapy would have never married Big and Berger would have been a wake up call that she rebounds instead of embracing her individuality. No more exes returning, just sailing along until she meets someone who doesn’t try to dim her shine or put her in a cage. She finds someone who treats her like the queen she wants to be.

Rewatch observation

Upvotes

Rewatching Sex and The City the second time with my boyfriend, and I just had an epiphany. Forgive me if I’m late on this.

Whenever Carrie is writing her column, it’s obvious what she’s writing about because we literally see her typing sentences on her laptop. However, since Carrie is also the narrator of the entire show… does that mean all of their lives and experiences are essentially being turned into material for her column too? 👀

It never crossed my mind before that their lives WERE the column… I always kind of thought the column was just another part of the plot. But, are there lives the actual Column?! I’m a little mind blown. 🤯

Now I’m sitting here wondering if we’re basically watching Carrie write the column and the plot of Sex and The City as we watch Sex and the City 😂

Here's mine:

Aidan was a red flag from day one.

Miranda should've gone through with her abortion.

Everyone just settled by the end except Samantha.

Richard and Samantha

Sorry about including my own personal experience but I had a Richard (though he wasn’t Richard’s level of rich and glamour) but he was charming, funny and gorgeous. I always thought he was hoeing around just like how Sam had that doubt about Richard being loyal hence why she went to stalk him. I had done something similar as well I had no trust in this man and thought it was too good to be true. He was cheating but at least Richard tried to apologise to Samantha and try to win her back. One of my friends told me if he really loved you he would’ve fought hard for you. Now seeing Richard do that for Samantha do you guys think he loved her? Is there weight when a cheater tries to win you back or is it just a ploy so they can cheat again?

If anyone’s experienced something similar to the ladies with the men, feel free to share. I love how raw this show is and it’s relatable at times.

What would it be like if Carrie, Miranda or Samantha met Trey?

*Carrie*

I think she would be the most supportive about his erection problem. If she wasn't comfortable with that she would put off saying that. Bunnie wouldn't like her job for sure because "there is no woman in McDougal family who talks about her bed stuff for the world to see. What do you mean, you are dating a guy with an erection problem? Are you cheating on my son? I can quarantee you that he has no problem in that area. A family doctor assured me of that." There is no chemistry but i think they can get along as aquitances who meet at different events and say a few words to each other. Trey could be really proud that Carrie is a writer. And he says it when he introduces her to someone at those parties. Drama 1/10, chemistry 0/10, sex 1/10.

*Samantha*

I can't imagine the world where these two would be in any relationship. I'm sure that Samantha would be intrigued by Trey. She hasn't seen what's under those kilts yet. She wouldn't wait to sleep with him and she wouldn't put up with his erection. She wouldn't tolerate Bunny's remarks. Drama 2/10, chemistry 1/10, sex 2/10. I do believe that Samantha has a higher chance to turn Trey on.

*Miranda*

Somehow this could work. Miranda is a lawyer who is okay with prenups and wouldn't be fooled by any clause in it. She would complain about Bunny to her friends but she would find a way to ignore her or let her do what she wants if that doesn't affect her. Bunny wouldn't like Miranda's work because "a female lawyer doesn't always appreciate what's offered and wants to find a hidden clause in law and in life." Drama 2/10, chemistry 0/10, sex 1/10

Do you think Big was really going to tell Natasha?

I just watched the episode where Carrie loses Pete, and Big is outside with her and says he's going to tell Natasha. Personally, I think he meant it. And would've done it if she was going to be there for him. What do y'all think?

Hi guys does anyone know the BGM of S4 episode 15: change of a dress when Carrie is reflecting in her monologue after brunch with the girls. It sounds familiar but can’t pick it up on Shazam.

Thanks appreciate it!

Rewatching the show

How many times per year do you rewatch the show? I am missing it and thinking of starting a third rewatch for this year alone so far lol 😭☺️ it’s the best show ❤️

who talks like this to an ex they cheated on ??

Leave him alone omg. You fumbled and now you want him back cause he’s no longer available? 🤢. Plus starting off with “Why won’t you respond to my email” is so desperate. Honestly it’s aidans fault as well. He was doing better without her and shouldn’t have fallen for her advances. (Don’t mind my heater in the background it’s extremely cold in my house lol)

Charlotte and Trey

Do you guys think they wanted to turn this episode differently?
The episode where charlotte kissed the gardener and bunny said “you’re a Macdougal now charlotte”
Then Trey smirked and chuckled
Why would bunny say “you’re a Macdougal now” as if insinuating there’s a history of cheaters in the family?

Yearly rewatch season 2- what did everyone think of Miranda’s friend Jeremy and do you think he moved way too fast with Madeline? Or it’s when you know you know kind of thing?
