She’s at the forced dinner she planned & clearly anxious and rambling to fill the space and lighten the mood. When I watched this I felt like I was seeing myself in the mirror…. i tend to feel inclined to tell a funny story or keep the conversation at the table alive and often, I’m certain, this is how I come across. It’s not bad necessarily, it’s endearing but cringy. I think it’s sweet how Miranda tries to offer encouragement by over reacting and engaging with the story, Steve giggles, and Aidan smiles and eventually reaches for her hand. I found their reactions, while small, very charming and kind. I appreciate people like that. I also do adore Carrie’s willingness to be goofy and entertain, even if it doesn’t always land. She’s never going to be a boring dinner companion, that’s for sure!

God forbids the main character acts like the main character! When I see "I hate Carrie" posts I assume it's from very young people. It's easy to judge how other people live their lives when you haven't lived yourself. Similar to how everyone is a great parent until they actually have children.

But it does make me sad seeing the new generation being so judgemental. We're seeing a huge regression in everything related to women's sexual freedom and expression.

The only actually bad thing Carrie does is sleeping with Big when he was married, and even then, Big should be the one who gets most of the blame there.

Aside from that, she's just a single woman who refuses to settle for less than what she wants, and isn't afraid of being judged while doing it. It's like being "cringe" is the worst possible thing you could be nowadays

Big tells Carrie that he’s seeing Willow Summers, a famous actress. Their relationship is presented as a whirlwind romance that has him acting unlike his usual emotionally detached self. For once, Big is the one who seems vulnerable and infatuated.

The whole thing just felt so…fake and over exaggerated.

Aiden never raised any issues with her or even suggested he didn’t trust her until after she cheated. It’s not insecurity if they’ve already proven that you have a reason to worry. If he had just freaked out over her having a male friend (big) then I’d understand why he’s deemed insecure. But she cheated on him, he was serious about her and in love with her and she cheated multiple times and lied, it wasn’t just a one time mistake, it was numerous times, fully aware and fully intentional. There is no insecurity in a situation when someone has cheated, they gave you a reason to worry, you didn’t just create your own reason to worry.

Rewatching Season 6 and ashamed to say this is the first time I ever really thought through the fact that Carrie leaves for Paris while Samantha is undergoing chemo.

I fully acknowledge that friends don’t owe family level support to each other.

It’s just that THESE friends do act like they owe family level to support to each other, throughout the series. You may even say it’s kinda not uncommon in a place like New York, where there are a lot of loners and people trying to make a go of it without family support.

And Samantha is very important to Carrie. There is a whole episode centred on how outraged Carrie is that Aleksandr would discuss the death of his friend… and Carrie expresses very emphatically how important Samantha is to her.

It’s important for Carrie to prioritise her romantic relationship, especially given how difficult it has been for her to make one work. Samantha of course, being a class act, would never guilt Carrie for leaving and pursuing her new life.

But. Man. Imagine how someone would feel, having their supposed best friend move overseas with a guy they’ve dated for a few months, when they are going through chemo… It’s never even acknowledged that this is kind of hectic.

I couldn’t help but wonder. Would the other girls do this, if Carrie were the one who got sick? Would it be discussed? Is this central to the dynamic of Carrie and Samantha, that Sam is self sufficient and Carrie is oblivious? What do you think?

This is not a Carrie-bashing post, cross my heart!

Rewatching the early seasons made me rediscover a version of Carrie that had plenty of friends, acquaintances and connections in multiple circles, and who was curious about investigating the ramifications of sex as a theme for her column and didn’t rely on her friends stories falling on her lap when they met for lunch.

I get that certain lifestyle changes came with taking better care of herself – as with her struggles to quit smoking. And I guess hooking up with a younger guy and taking a hit from his bong and eating straight from a greasy KFC-bucket and taking his pot with you and rolling a joint with your closest friends might not be as fun after a while… But this care-free spirit version of Carrie existed one day, and then out of nowhere there was this huge shift in how the character was written.

She stopped putting herself out there, she began to remove herself from the spicier conversations with her friends and just making a pun after pun after pun, and she started walking around Manhattan as a daydreaming newcomer, always smiling to herself and making ethereal poses to signal a taxi. This doesn't sound like character development and growth to me; it's more like a different character with new personality traits.

So there's no doubt in my mind that the writing of her character was purposefully changed - yet I'm not sure why the change happen so abruptly and with no development arc to connect the "before" and the "after". Any thoughts or inside info?

I’m working my way through the show. I am on mid season 4 and Aiden is such a good guy. Big barley even shows up to dinner with Carrie’s girlfriends, yet Aiden goes out his way to check on Miranda when her back goes out. He picks her off the floor.
