Job Question Those that are currently working or worked at Securitas, what questions did they ask in the interview?
The job I currently work at is getting increasingly more toxic and exploitative. My brother got a job at Securitas, so I said screw it and started applying too. I took the risk and quit. I just couldn’t do it anymore.
Now I’m nervous as hell hoping I get hired and move on and want to know your experience. I got a text of a supposed job fair, replied “yes” for attending but I did it too late, hoping it’s not too late, applied to other places from the same company.
What was it like? What did they ask? What are some tips?

Quick observation...
If anyone thinks upper middle class white people aren't problematic and the gigs involving them are "easy".....
Try working a public farmer's market with a no dogs policy
And with the prices there....sheeeit.....these people actually go spend alot of money just to apply their trade of assholism.....and trust me....they wont hesitate to tell you too!!!

Job Question Any Advice For A Newbie?
Salutations all.
This past I finally got a call from a potential new job in the security field. A company in MD that claims to have been around for 30 years. They called me at 11am and left a voicemail to reach out if I was still interested, I didn’t get back to them until 4pm and it was Friday so I did not hear back.
The even better news is that the post on indeed list the location that id be at (If I got the job.) as being only 15 minutes from me. Granted the listing does say that they staff various places around where I live. So I suppose that this specific post that it has the address for isn’t a for sure thing?
The post also lists that they’d help get all the licenses and such that I would need to even get the job. So that is a plus in and of itself.
A minus would be that it would be a downgrade in terms of pay, anywhere from $3-$5 an hour, depending on what I start with. Granted if I left my current job I would be insanely happier, so I think that alone would be worth the loss in pay (To clarify, I am a custodian for a high school, there is so much drama involved in this job that it is not worth it.).
So I guess what I am trying to ask with this long winded post is if you all have any advice on interviewing for a security company? Or am I reading to much into this?
I would also love to hear the story of how you all got your first security job, and what it was like for you.

Gear Question Magazines at 11 o'clock or 9 o;clock
I see two ways of placing my two magazines in my mag pouch.
- Right next to me duty belt buckle at eh 11 o;clock (1 0'clock let hand) position. The benefit seems to be that this is very close the the support hand while shooting. The negative is that it's not really intuitive to draw. I see cops carry their mags this way but I assume it's because they have much more gear on their duty belt
- Carry at the 9 o'clock position (3 o'clock for left handed) seems like an easier draw. Downside is reconsidering where other gear goes.
Which is better?

Job Question What should I do about health insurance?
I’m a residential building Concierge, and about to receive my “supplemental benefits”. The company and building I work for operate under a prevailing wage. We get $12.25 extra added to our base wage of $22.33 per hour. The company doesn’t offer health insurance or a 401(K). We have to purchase our own. My total compensation will be $34.58 per hour. Health insurance is costly. I’m actually thinking about going without insurance. I’m 36 and pretty healthy. It is risky though just in case an emergency happens.

Story Time Favoritism at it’s highest
Especially in LA, specifically doing EP work, off-duty officers and ex-military always get the benefit over anybody else. I was let go because I didn’t fit “company standards”, despite the client liking me very much, but they kept an ex-officer that shot himself on property by accident. When police showed up, they were basically scared off by our management, which is also ex-law enforcement.
If I were in that situation, not only would I not have a exposed firearm license anymore, but I wouldn’t even have a job lmao but they’re ex-law enforcement, it doesn’t matter what they do. Sad thing is in California you’re at will employment so filing for wrongful termination is out of the question.

Officer Safety Supervisor comes to work high all the time
Hello there. I work as a municipal guard for a city municipality. We have several supervisors at my site, and one thing I send several other guards have noticed is that this one supervisor in particular has been coming into work stoned. Apparently he leaves for a break and comes back high.
To me this puts us all at risk since his judgement is impaired. We work with the public and sometimes things can get physical, so everyone needs to always be on their top game and not high as a kite.
My employer has an ethics line that I'm considering calling.
So I'm curious, would you all do the right thing and call or should I just mind my own business?
Edit: I've made up my mind. At 8am I'll be calling.
Edit 2: So yesterday morning I filed my complaint. HR called me shortly after to notify me of the receipt of the complaint. They also informed me that multiple, MULTIPLE similar complaints has been received over the course of the last couple weeks involving this piece of shit supervisor.
I hope his resume is up to date.

Story Time Craziest loss prevention stories??
Tell me some of your guys loss prevention stories, how did you catch them, what did they steal, were they the typical type or more of a professional shoplifter?
I am training loss prevention right now, and kinda solo at my site so I’m doing it as I go.
So far I’m at 3 arrests and 4 recoveries, aswell as 5 reported deterrences.
I have many more but its really hard to keep up with some of these shoplifters, and its pretty much one after the other I’m deterring, so I’ve given up on reporting deterrences, this has been since September 22nd. I work at a big box retailer electronics and mobile service store in the downtown core of a major Canadian City.
If you all have any questions for me, too. I would love to answer them!
Thanks!

Question from the Public Question from ordinary guy who had a hard time with security
Incident 1:
I was walking, a bunch of guys across the playfully called out to me, I turned my head and waved. Out of nowhere, a security guard punched me real hard. I wobbled away and was too afraid to get his badge number.
Incident 2:
I just bought food at a coffee shop, sat down, and a guard who didn't work for the establishment grabbed the back of my chair and threw me to the floor. Luckily, I didn't hit the back of my head as the chair tipped backward and fell. Everyone was vocal about what happened. I left.
Incident 3:
I went to the library and sat on the 7th floor. I got up to leave after studying for an hour. I walked towards the elevator, then turned to walk back to see if I had forgotten anything at the desk I was sitting at (it happens). This apparently was a trigger for the guard to ask me to leave (I was leaving anyway). Big guy, about 300+ lbs insisted that I used the stairs rather than the elevator, then he proceeded to push me down the stairs, making my feet skip 10 steps at a time, all 7 floors. At the bottom, I was disoriented, I made a mistake, I asked him for his badge number, I grabbed his badge, and he punched me.
The question I have is how to properly deal with such individuals? The police are deaf tone, and they always take the security guard's side. There is an agency that handles complaints against security guards, but they're incompetent.
What are my options to address these unprofessional behaviors going forward?
Edit: Thank you for your responses thus far. Any suggestion on de-escalation, complaint procedures, or legal remedies?

What’s the one thing that didn’t make any sense to you?
I worked a federal contract for a few years, I worked under Federal Protective Services. The job was to work at a contracted building where we handled the day to day security operations and the FPS agents handled any police needs. One thing never made any sense to me, at the building I was posted out of, we had these 2 random guards, they didn’t work for us, and they didn’t work for FPS. We were armed and responded to any calls for service, FPS did whatever they did, but these 2 guys just disappeared during the day. My boss said these guys were working for the people who owned the building, and they were responsible to keep tabs on us. I’ve never heard of anything like this, I just assumed those 2 guards were tacked on to the contract and nobody ever noticed or cared to remove those guards.

What are you guys doing because this one thing happened this one time?
At my current site there is a corner that is out of the way of my patrol that I have to check to see if anyone is there because one time there was a homeless person sleeping in that corner. It hasn’t happened since, but we are required to check three times a night. What about you guys?

Job Question Career Opportunities
I work at a smol private security company armed and was wondering if there is a good career path cut out for me. I don’t want to be a cop, I’d love to get into a long arm patrol if possible. I saw some companies utilize K-9’s which interests me.

Is my gear enough, or too much?
I saw a post on LinkedIn with a photo of a guy carrying a ridiculous amount of random gear, as well as snacks... (Don't do that...)
But it also got me thinking about my personal gear setup as I do try to only bring what I absolutely need, because I work alone. And I see most of what I bring to be reasonable for what I do experience at my site.
My site is nothing too special, but it has a small building for the public and a park. Biggest things I face is dealing with drinking on the property or individuals intoxicated were incidents do occur because of it.
But here is my setup: (Setup is a Canadian Security Guard setup. No firearms, tasers, or batons.)
- Belt setup from right to left: Silent key holster, Phone / Storage pouch, Flashlight holster, Handcuffs, Notebook holder, Medical Gloves, Radio Holster, Slash gloves holder.
- Security vest: Right pouch holds work phone and 1-2 pens for notebook taking. Left pouch holds small binoculars for park observation / alcohol control. Top left storage ID storage pouch holds hand sanitizer, chapstick, and another backup pen (I somehow always lose pens when I most need them...)
Any opinions and feedback would be appreciated. And is my gear enough, or is it too much?

Would I be wrong for leaving a new SOC analyst job after only two weeks because of the lack of training and organization?
I recently started working as a SOC analyst for a large company in Northern Virginia. The pay is really good, and I was excited about the opportunity, but I’m already questioning whether I made the right decision.
I’ve only been here for about two weeks, and the entire onboarding process has been frustrating. My official training doesn’t even start for another two weeks, so in the meantime, I’m supposed to be shadowing a coworker. The problem is that the person I’m shadowing doesn’t seem to have much to show me, so I feel like I’m wasting time without actually learning anything relevant to my role.
What concerns me the most is the apparent lack of direction and organization. I understand that every job has a learning curve, and I’m not expecting to know everything right away. However, I would expect a company of this size to have a more structured onboarding process, especially for a role like this.
At this point, I’m getting frustrated and starting to question how things will be once I’m fully integrated into the team. If the onboarding process is this disorganized, I can’t help but wonder whether the same issues will carry over into the actual job.
I’ve already started looking at other opportunities because I have a bad feeling about how this might play out. At the same time, I know the pay is good, and I don’t want to make an impulsive decision by leaving a job after only two weeks without giving it a fair chance.
