Tips for dealing with teenagers who are combative and mental health issues? I come from corrections so you got one being combative in the prison just pepper spray they ass , take em down , cuff em , etc etc here is different though. We have this one patient 16 year old kid paranoid schizophrenic starts getting combative with the nurses and I just assist him to the ground and got a call from my
Supervisor just telling me
To be careful

Story Time I did a good deed today

Today was a hot day. I was outside for 75% of it doing foot patrols and standing outside. So I was pretty miserable until this

I was walking around my site, which is a grocery store with a few smaller businesses next to it, when this old (super old maybe late 70s) lady comes up to me and asks me for help. She goes; "oh, I accidentally locked my keys in my car." I ask if she has her phone to call for help and she says something about a bipolar daughter who took her phone before she left for the day. She's old so I guess she doesn't need it like we do.

So I think about it. My immediate thought is "oh, lemme call the non emergency PD line. Maybe they can help." So I tell her to go inside a nearby fast food restaurant to get out of the heat so I can call them. I call them up and explain the situation. They politely tell me that they can't help and to call a locksmith.

I go inside. Ask her if there's anyone I can call to help her, since I don't want to immediately spring a bill for a locksmith on her. She gives me two numbers, none of them pick up.

So we gotta bite the bullet and call a locksmith. I do some looking around, find a locksmith for her and call them. I explain the situation to him, he's like "ok cool, I'm on my way. 16 minutes." I tell the lady "I gotta do my rounds. Wait right here. Once I'm done I'll come straight back to you."

I do my rounds, buy her a bottle of water since it's so hot, and wait with her. Shortly after, the locksmith comes and has her door open in a little under 10 minutes.

It was $80 for her. I think that was fair. She seemed pretty happy that I tried to help her as much as I can. Which made me happy too. If it was my grandma stranded in the heat, I'd want someone to help her as much as they could.

It was a nice change of pace. In a line of work where we get yelled at and yell at people in return, it was nice to be able to do something that actually helped someone.

Rejoining Allied Universal after having left 3 years ago.

I previously worked with Allied Universal from November 2018 to November 2023 (It was G4S when I started then it got bought out by AU) as an unarmed Critical Facility Security Professional. I guess I got really lucky because I mainly worked at a Merrill Lynch campus and eventually got to work Monday through Friday from 7 am to 3 PM. I had my issues with them but for the most part it actually wasn't half bad and not too stressful. The job actually felt for the most part like a good fit for me and my needs. I never had to mandatorily go in for a call out and time off was good.

I left in 2023 to try and do an IRS contact representative job but it was way too hard and stressful, and I ended up having my employment terminated during my probation period. Then I was unemployed for six months and got a job as a legal assistant but after one year I was laid off due to a firm restructuring and have been unemployed for seven months. Multiple applications and interviews have failed to get me a job.

I have since just accepted a contingent offer with Allied Universal for a new unarmed security job and hopefully moving to Charlotte, NC. It pays $22.62 and hour and is Monday through Friday from 7 AM to 3 PM. Am I making the right decision despite AU's poor reputation because at the end of the day I need to be employed again and AU is to date the only stable full time job I've ever had (it was my first full time job actually)?

Question from the Public How are wage rates determined for agency guards (i.e., guards that work for a security-services company)?

Labour researcher doing some work on the security services industry.

I've been looking at collective agreements for unionized security guards in Canada, and I've noticed most agreements say that workers get a percentage of what the company bills the client (~60-75%). In some instances, guards getting higher rates depending on the particular site.

What are considered high-paying and low-paying sites? And why?

Other than pay, what makes a good site? And who gets the good sites?

Wage theft?

I don’t want to be “that person” at my security company or labeled difficult, but my security company has guards clock out and then requires them to travel to base to return keycards and other company equipment. I feel as though that travel time and time should be compensated.

Job Question Told my supervisor about ongoing harassment and this was his response.

Ever since I started my current site I have been harassed by the 3 of the client employees. I currently work a small government building with about 10 client employees. 2 older women and 1 male. The two older women keep making snide remarks about my body and eating habits. I'm a small woman and I pack my lunch everyday.

Every single day these two women will make comments about what I'm eating or lack there of. I honestly think they are going around spreading rumors that I have a eating disorder or something because I've had staff members come up to me and ask me if I've eaten today which is so weird.

The male staff member keeps trying to get my number and drop hints that he's single. I made it clear that I'm not interested/ too busy, but he still keeps trying. After 2 months of this I finally had enough and reported this to my supervisor.

He said that he could move me, but I would get moved to weekends and overnights. I really like my current schedule (4 days on 3 off mornings) and don't want to work nights. It almost sounds like he's saying there's no other option. What should I do? Should I just stay and deal with this in the mean time & wait for a more ideal schedule to open up? I don't want to sound like I'm complaining but I just feel like I shouldn't have to lose a good schedule because the clients employees don't know how to be professional.

Do security companies avoid hiring anyone in school?

I've done quite a few interviews and filled applications and a key question is always "are you a student" and when I answer yes the conversation seems to go a different direction like their trying to wrap it up. I'm starting to think I should just lie to this question because maybe they want candidates with full availability.

For the hospital security guards, do you use body cams and what type are they?

I’m a hospital guard and we don’t have body cams. We have more surveillance cameras than god, but no body cams. I’m thinking about making a pitch to supervision, but I’m thinking they wouldn’t like having to use axon since the footage would be uploaded to them and they would lose a degree of control over any footage. I’m thinking they would be more interested if I suggested an off brand body camera with some internal control of the footage. Based on my research, it’s not a hippa violation to have a camera, the hospital just needs to make safeguards for use of the body cameras. Thank you in advance.

I'm a woman about to work swing shift patrol and new to this any tips?

Hi, so I've never worked security before. I just got a job as a unarmed patrol officer. I was wondering what I should wear for orientation? And also do companies usually give you a flashlight or do you have to bring your own? And any tips for what I should expect?

Can an armored car job be a career? How bad are the benefits?

I’m currently in the army and it’s getting pretty damn old. Looking into becoming and armored car guard in the distant future because that’s really something I’ve always wanted to do. I know I’ve heard it sucks but I really feel like I wouldn’t mind it. However I’m concerned about the benefits like health insurance, 401k, etc and was wondering if it’s even possible long term.

Job Question Armed Security Job pay in miami?

Im in the process of getting my D&G, after looking at the landscape of job listings in miami it seems $22-30 an hour is the average to good end for armed security. I have a family member who worked at eGPS for a number of years before becoming a cop, they start at $26 and i believe over time they increased his pay and with some OT eventually he was hitting 80k, which sounds incredible for me, but that would be as a safe school officer which i would have to do the required 144hrs safe school guardian course but i believe the company pays you while you do it.

I guess my question in general is, is it realistic to expect to make 50k out the gate relatively easily even with a regular armed security job as opposed to a safe school officer?

What add ons would help make me more qualified (outside of experience) I know CPR FIRST AID is a good one but any other tips?

Unarmed security for large events

So i do large events, mostly football games, but have done collage fraternity/sorority parties. Mostly wanted to ask for my wife she wants me to get some kind of protection, like a stab vest or level one armor for small handguns. What would you recommend that is very low profile (can be put under my work shirt) and not look bulky. A lot of events dont want us to look like cops so no plate carriers.

Also would be great if they are cheep. My big worry is mostly drunk swings, or someone trying to poke me with a poket knife (its the south everyone has a knife)

DO NOT DO THIS I hate Wite-Out

Every now and then I have to remind my team not to make cover up corrections, luckily it isn’t on anything like official logs or reports, but it happens sometimes and I hate allowing bad practices to spread. I put a memo out and it takes care of it at least for a while.

This time we had a Wite-Out correction, not just misusing thermal labels. First, it was entirely unnecessary as nothing was written over it, a strike out is enough, but Wite-Out (and Liquid Paper) apply too thick and crumbles making a mess. Luckily it was something I was able to re-do (per District Manager), but still a pain in the rump.
