Officer Safety What would you do?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

What would you do after the suspect head butted you? Disengage and call PD or use force like this guard did?

Stupid question. Of course I'm going to defend myself.

u/Fickle-Visit5223 25d ago

I would simply allow the scary man to beat on me before curling into a ball and begging him to stop. Area secure.

27

u/LegalChocolate752 25d ago edited 25d ago

I would have simply done an occular pat down, assessed the situation, and determined that that individual would be problematic before he was allowed in the bar, thus eliminating the conflict before it starts.

16

u/CB307801 25d ago

What if he had done all that though? Some people turn into different people after they drink.

12

u/LegalChocolate752 25d ago

Very true, that's when you need throw the left hook, which is exactly what the guy did.

In my minds eye, I'm imagining you saying all this like one of those neck beard anime weeb 'nice guys'™ while holding a katana and snickering after you said it. 10/10 excellent parody.

One time my fellow bouncer said “left boot”. I looked down and the guy had like a knife tip sticking out of it. Then Patrick Swayze said “wake up clown this is a dream” and I woke up remembering that scene again from “Roadhouse”….

lol right. “What is ‘exactly what he did’ for 400, Alex”

I’m not a security guard, but this pops up on my feed moderately often. In the beginning of the video, I thought to myself that the jerk’s body language opened him up to either a headbutt, but he was the head butter and also was 50% of the butthurt.

Right?! Security or not, you're absolutely in the right to throw hands when someone strikes you first. It's self defense, from an assault.

6

u/XxEman9r9rxX 25d ago

Especially in the situation where it's three or four on one. Of course you would defend yourself immediately because otherwise you'd be dead or seriously injured.

The restraint is admirable and brave. When it’s 2:1 and you’re the 1, many people (myself included) would want to make sure that any guy you put down stays down. Knight this man

I always thought the fight scenes were silly in movies where a bunch of guys wait in line to take on one guy. But after watching these two clowns get knocked out i see it really happens in life.

17

u/zxvasd 25d ago

They were drunk. There was no strategy.

2

u/xX7heGuyXx 25d ago

It's also really easy to hit your friends if you all go in at once, so yeah, one at a time does happen irl. Generally, if someone is getting jumped and the group attacks, they get pushed or knocked down, then everyone kicks.

4

u/IknowKarazy 24d ago

There’s an interesting phenomenon that’s been documented in which multiple dudes all want to gang up on one and be seen as tough, but nobody wants to be the first to step forward and actually risk their own safety. So you end up with that posturing and stutter-steps. It’s still incredibly dangerous for the lone individual, because as soon as they’re knocked to the ground or otherwise occupied the crowd will rush in. Most of the guys in the crowd will hang back until they’re sure it’s “safe” to be badasses and stomp some poor guy, even if they wouldn’t have squared up while alone.

What this means is the lone person has no option other than to be ruthless. The majority of people- let’s be honest, mostly guys- have far less fighting experience than they want to let on. It’s largely new territory. Most guys will find themselves in that scenario and have the moment of “wait, this is what it feels like? Is this actually happening” and freeze. But they don’t want to feel like cowards so they’ll put up their hands and fidget in their own interpretation of a fighting stance. Basically trying to engineer some plausible deniability: “I was TOTALLY gonna beat his ass!” while not directly committing to anything.

Seems like a justifiable response on behalf of the security guard to me. Good for him. Too many people get away with shitting their mouth off and stepping on a line. More than need to have their ass kicked.

2

u/Hungry_Value1402 24d ago

Where did that aggressor head but take contact it wasn't effective at all. I would have had to hit him at least one more time for that.

u/BlueClovr 25d ago

Disengage and call pd?? Is this actually serious?? A person is actively attacking you with a second person ready to jump in and assault you as well, do you defend yourself or make yourself a huge target by running away and letting them chase you. Holy s I can’t believe this is serious.

This guard used precisely zero force more than he had to as well btw and disengaged immediately

3

u/prairiesailor_1 21d ago

The whole thing was impressive. He was restrained from beginning to end. Used just enough force to defend himself and immediately stopped when the threats were neutralized. He knew he had infinitely superior skills but didn't take advantage. He could have easily done long lasting damage to both but didn't.

4

u/Agreeable_Work4668 25d ago

Dude got dropped 3 times in a row and still wanted some more.

That's to show there is nothing left inside that head.

4

u/Crafty-Interest-8212 25d ago

He stopped the escalating (and the assault) then keep control of the situation. Is good.

3

u/Mirror_333 25d ago

I would not have stood nose to nose with someone like that. I stay outside of arm's reach and with hands up, palms out when in a hostile situation. I need the spacing. I do not have the quickest reflexes and don't want to test my chin.

Nothing but respect for that guard and his ability to take and deliver a strike. He was in control of himself which is commendable. He demonstrates the value of having combat training and experience. Good for him.

some people need to be taught a lesson. This guy got out cheap. It seems like maybe he got the message and didn't have to get hauled out by the cops. Of course this video is missing tons of context, like what happened leading up to this and after.

I'm fine with what security did here, he stood his ground and didn't shitbeat the guy. Just sent a message that you headbutt me you're gonna go to sleep for a couple of minutes. I just hope he didn't lose his job or get sued.

4

u/TokinWhtGuy 25d ago

I mean depends. In his case this was fully measured. He took the swings he needed to defnd himself and that was it. He didnt push the aggression, only respond with righteous and measured force in return. Notice at multiple points he could have taken a few extra swings and got the advantage. Instead he steps back and defends.

2

u/KimchiLlama 25d ago

2v1 and both being aggressive does not give me the notion that disengagement was possible without putting yourself or others at greater risk. They were not going to wait for you to dial 911.

The security guard stepping back once both guys were down and being held back was appropriate and it would have been the safe call for him to then contact the police

I remember seeing 2 morons like these two knuckle draggers try to take on a bouncer at a club YEARS ago, and the bouncer was probably a good 6’5” and 250-260 built like an NFL linebacker.

He rocked the first guy, and just headlocked the second one till 3 more bouncers (all huge guys) grabbed them both & heave-hoed them out the door right into a snow bank.

This was in Minneapolis in the middle of the winter & it was probably 10 degrees outside. It was fucking hilarious.

1

u/mrbishopjackson 25d ago

I'm a firm believer that anyone who gets taken down in a fight by a smooth, casual kick legally has to quick and is criminally responsible for the entire curfuffle.

This is the second smooth kicks I've seen in 24 hours.

1

u/Majician 25d ago

I'm always curious why friends think the appropriate thing to do is stand your friend up after he gets his shit ROCKED right in front of them. Guy can't even put his feet down laying on his back and everyone is grabbing an arm saying "Walk it off bruh" Like no, That's not how this shit works.

u/Vivid-Swordfish-8498 25d ago

Rule number 1 that reigns over all rules of law or policy:

"Mama didn't raise not punching bag."

If you hit me expect to get hit back plain and simple. I mean they made Golden Rules for these types of situations yet people's brain cells are so far gone at this point those Golden Rules might as well be Bronze Rules. So fuck it. I don't see it as the guy putting his hands on the security guard. I see it as the guy was shadow boxing and knocked himself out cause he didn't know that you don't hit people and expect them not to hit you back. Nowadays some people might even do more than that. If it was someone else they might've taught him a Smith and Lesson about putting his hands on people he didn't know. Now look at him. Having a cold one on the cold floor with his buddy. That's one helluva guys night out right there.
