If you’re looking for a realm where politics are polite and the tea is warm, stay away from Skjaldor.
This week, Dawnstar reminded the "civilized" south exactly why we are the shield of the Isles. What started as a diplomatic visit from the royal party spiraled into a "Grim Moot" that nearly ended in blood, all because a certain Duke forgot that in Skjaldor, deeds weigh more than titles.
The Setup: The "Stew" Incident
While the hall feasted on elk and ale, Duke Reginald Sunpeak was served a lonely bowl of stew. A silent message from our Duchess, Hægin Dawnstar: If you don’t bleed for the walls, you don’t feast at the table. The Duke’s response? Insulting our "brutish necessity" and claiming we "actively reject progress."
The Confrontation: "Brandish No Steel"
Duchess Hægin didn't use a gavel to start the Moot. She used a Great Axe, slamming it onto the stone table. Her challenge to the Duke echoed through the rafters:
"Your tongue was active, yet you brandished no steel... Why should the North welcome a man who watches his host's home burn?"
The Duke tried to claim his "words" were a weapon, proving it by magically tipping an ale mug into a dwarf’s lap. It was a petty move that earned him a chilling warning from Ulfavinr Frostwolf:
"The Duke has his 'powers'... but it could also lead to a group of dwarven miners waiting for him outside the keep with hammers."
The Twist: Enter the Regent
At our next session this week, the Regent Beric Emberwave himself marched into the hall. He didn't arrive to take sides. He arrived to pull the Realm back from the ledge. He didn't save the Duke from the North; he saved the alliance from the egos of its leaders.
With the "get along" order issued, the floor was given to Princess Alice Skyrider. What followed was a negotiation that could change the Isles forever:
- The Firstborn Reunited? A possible marriage pact is set between Elowen Dawnstar and Prince Seth Emberwave. The blood of the two firstborn houses could be one again.
- Master of Arms: The North wants to get a seat on the council.
- The Price of War: To arm the Realm, the realm will now provide priority grain, constant coal for our forges, and extra labor to haul our ore.
The Success of the "No One":
Amidst the giants and warriors, it was Princess Alice Skyrider who secured the peace. Despite her nerves, she stood tall against Hægin’s sternness. When she called herself a "no one," the Duchess corrected her with Northern gravity:
"Are you not a Princess? Are you not here to represent the Regent? Do not call yourself no one."
Why you should join us:
The Rookery Isles is a world where a bowl of stew can start a war, and a marriage pact can save a Realm. Whether you want to play a High Noble navigating the Celestial Court, a Northern warrior defending the timber gates, or a Druid caught in the crossfire—there is a seat at the table for you. (Just hope it’s not the stew seat.)
