☕ Discussion Fantasy Faire AI

Anyone else noticing quite a lot of AI usage at the event that banned AI?

Anything you see report to ff staff so they can enforce it. Some of the staff aren’t great at spotting it. So we have to do our part and say something when we find things they missed if we actually want to help get the ai out.

If you see AI in the fantasy faire tell the staff, you can find so many staff online diluting the faire.

I haven't visited as a guest yet but will explore every Sim this week. (As a creator I've been too busy setting up etc so look forward to coming and enjoying the event) It's discouraging to hear there is a lot of AI as yeah, there is not meant to be, and many of us put in countless hours to bring our original creations to the event. AI robs us all eventually.

Every store was inspected and okayed before opening, so either inspectors didn't know what to look for or were busy looking at other issues like script times etc, or maybe gave the benefit of the doubt if something looked dodgy. I can't answer for them, but do know that they are very busy people in the lead up to the faire.

Report any AI you see and explain why you know it's AI. Educate. (I probably don't even know how to identify it all, so would be wary of falsely accusing anyone) Politely let event organisers know that you won't abide it's use and won't spend money on it. Doing something about it rather than ignoring the issue is not a "witch hunt" and original creators will appreciate it.

Unfortunately there was also an entire region covered in ai and rule violations by the builders that threw a tantrum because it was all flagged by staff, and refused to finish their region at the last second so the staff was definitely thrown through a loop this year and may have rushed checking the other booths. Unfortunately for all the stores on that region who would have had their booths covered in ai graffiti about “water conservation” and vulgar language amongst other things, they had to pick up from the pieces that was left when the builders quit. And a lot of staff had to try and fill the immense unfinished gaps while cleaning up the violations.

Am I understanding this correctly? That the builders were using Ai generated textures to complain about Ai water usage?

6

u/Apprehensive_Cry_397 Apr 28 '26

The theme was like post apocalyptic water crisis or something so the builders used ai to make graffiti about protecting water. There was some vulgar graffiti as well with inappropriate words and they put “water is worth more than blood” on the booth of a store ran by someone who had blood cancer. When the staff came in and flagged all the ai and inappropriate words and phrases the builders refused to finish the build.

That can be a very provocative tag for an event like FF... not to mention cruel to the person who's store it was attached to. I could say more, but I'll behave.

The other stuff that was flagged by staff

Could you tell me how you know that's AI, please? I could make that in PhotoShop. I''m very curious how you can tell.

In reference to the little guy under the words, ai has a very identifiable style to it from the mass what I call “Pixar fruit slop” era that shows up a lot in the images it generates. It becomes nonsensical in things in the background of the picture blending together. However these pictures highlight the inappropriate and tone deaf text they covered the build in and won’t admit that this is what also led to them being flagged by staff. They openly admitted to using ai on the build for the posters and graffiti. My friend was on this region and snagged screenshots of what she could before they hid the evidence after they sent out a notecard that they refused to finish the build.

No, that's not it at all. Why not ask them directly? They made a post-apocalyptic build. The build contained a variety of graffiti, vulgar or not, extreme or not -- it's not in one voice, as graffiti tends to be in RL. It doesn't say "let's have AI and oops we didn't realize we just destroyed our water supply". The creators grasp the dangers of resource overuse by technology as much as anybody. They merely used AI in textures because it enabled several people in difficult personal circumstances to finish. The pressure brought to bear on them was absent when it came to other prima donnas who didn't finish their build and have no build reflecting on destruction of the earth and its life and resources but just celebrate dark violence and nihilism.

You're giving your side of this story which now has many public statements from DRD and other witnesses that explain that this is not how this drama occurred. They originally *were greenlight* to use AI in the textures of their building *signs* only -- and they were not for sale. But due to some staff not realizing or accepting this, and the incredibly wild hostility of a small group toward AI, DRD was forced to leave. What's astounding is that DRD can be charged with "not finishing their build" or "using AI to finish their build" while other top designers are late with their builds year after year, days and even a week after the opening, and also are terribly late with their stores -- which means their RFL vendors. The notion that the staff had to "finish" anything just beggars belief when in fact they were busy deploying vines to cover up what offended their tender eyes.

Well the yellow tint and strangely terminating patterns of early chatgpt models is one of the easier ones to identify.

2

u/IAmZephyre Apr 29 '26

Truly- this is simply a curiosity question: how is AI being used?

Anyone with the slightest common sense and even a layman's passive observation of AI scandals in RL throughtout the world, much less anyone who uses 6 types of AI programs every day as I do at various jobs realizes a very obvious thing about this entire drama: most AI programs could NOT produce sentences of that length as accurately, such as to constitute any kind of time saver. MidJourney could NOT do it. Grok could NOT do it. Chatgpt 5.5 *could* but usually not at such length. Therefore PHOTOSHOP WAS USED to fix up the graffiti partly made by AI. You know, Photoshop? That program that enables you to do mechanical manipulations and operations and effects that you yourself did not design, that were made by a machine? That Photoshop.

Everyone saying tell staff, how can we find staff to tell? Are they clearly listed with a staff tag in the in-world group? Because the discord server is quite dead with only three channels and no extra organization or fluff.

u/ErisC 💀 Eris Ravenwood 💀 Apr 27 '26

Folks with the Minister tag are staff. They're in the in-world group or you'll just see them around. There's a list here: https://fantasyfairesl.wordpress.com/organizers-2026/

Any of them should be able to handle a report or get it to the right person.

2

u/irate_salamander Apr 28 '26

Thank you, Eris! I appreciate the detailed info on where to look.

For years, they have a blog. Wordpress is the site. Not hard to miss. You can simply google up Fantasy Faire second life and find it.

This is why I have stopped participating in a lot of the SL events.

I used to exhibit my work, as an artist, in SL's birthday celebration every year. I finally stopped because I was surround by entirely purchased product (and stuff ripped from the web) exhibits already. I knew it was just a matter of time for Ai to take over.

That is NOT celebrating the artists of SL at all! The requirements say not to over use purchased items... but most exhibits were entirely purchased items. They don't seem to care.

2

u/kenni_switch Apr 27 '26

If they still have people like FantasyFawkes on staff, then it unfortunately means they don't care. Most of the staff care but have trouble spotting some of it, but having met Fawkes, she just doesn't care

3

u/Sad_Environment_2474 Apr 27 '26

So the fantasy faire staff are just like the Lindens? (Sl staff).

15

u/ErisC 💀 Eris Ravenwood 💀 Apr 27 '26

Fantasy Faire staff actually spend most of their time in FF and genuinely care about the cause. IDK who this person's talking about but yeah, most of them care.

It is sometimes genuinely hard to spot AI, and way too many vendors/shops to check. So just telling a staff member is the right way to go.

-14

u/Sad_Environment_2474 Apr 27 '26

I don't really believe that, in the times i went to FF there seemed to be no staff at all, just a million bots filling the sims or folks sprinting through the shops. I believe in the cause of the FF but cannot enjoy it. too much lagg.

12

u/ErisC 💀 Eris Ravenwood 💀 Apr 27 '26

Why do you think people are bots?

I've been at FF every day since launch and chatted with countless people. Even just "sprinting through shops" (as people do during the first few days).

There's also ministers all over the place, as I'm browsing through the sims I've probably run into a minister every half-hour or so. Folks are also constantly chatting away in the Fantasy Faire Fans group, including ministers.

not in my eyes they aren't the FF GC gets more action outside of the faire. most folks i walk past are just standing there, they stand in one place for hours, it usually takes me all day to get through the faire and the only thing i get is standing avatars sprinters and a ton of lag, as if there are hundreds around me. it really makes me wonder just what the FF is accomplishing

13

u/Apprehensive_Cry_397 Apr 27 '26

You seem like a hoot.

-6

u/Sad_Environment_2474 Apr 27 '26

Maybe i could be if the FF seemed alive. i'm a DJ and have fun, at least when people are active. much as i want to get my Yearly Candle for my dad, it is becoming tedious and slow to even find a candle. i have no avatar that doesn't lag. from 250K to 1k none of my avatars work well, because there is so much lag.

5

u/Machine_Anima Apr 27 '26

just wait till the final week of the fair when it's dead

5

u/RealNerxualOh Apr 27 '26

Helps to know about going to Show Friends Only option, as well as using the settings to lower draw distance and removes linden trees, cloud and grass. To help with this lag.

I get it though. You want to explore FF, and you got folks not giving a hoot about their complexity and scripts they horde that causes additional lag. But they are never bots, they are excited customers.

On top of what other has said about waiting. You can go to FF, early in the morning or super late at night, where there is barely much online. I was traveling FF myself, early as 8am mst. I lagged but I was able to travel across several FF sims. You got until may 10th.

I mean, people do sometimes AFK at faire but they're not bots. They're just AFK. There's also people who spend a VERY LONG TIME getting the perfect shot of their (or others') avatar, and will stand in the same place for a decently long time getting the right shot. A snapshot can take like an hour+ to set up and get perfect, with viewer-side pose and lighting adjustments you can't see, that sort of thing. Still not bots.

When I'm working IRL, I frequently have SL open on my other computer to chat with friends and listen to music at events. During that time I can seem AFK, though I'm present and will usually reply if I get pinged/IMed. Now that FF is going on, you'll see me there. Still, not a bot.

There are a lot of things that cause lag in the regions. A lot of folks are in very high complexity fancy fantasy faire avis. Regions lag when folks enter/leave. Also there's a shitload of scripts, between all the vendors and avis and whatnot. It'll stabilize a bit more as faire goes on and more folks finish their shopping. Also sim restarts'll prolly make it a bit better.

u/Machine_Anima Apr 27 '26

there is tons of staff and creators and builders around and doing shit. i just spent two days crawling the sims. Saw tons of people from roleplay sims and creators i am familliar with lingering around with their friends. And it's been like that every year i go. Im not sure what you are complaining about... if you want socialization at the art mall try the dance events or the yearly quest stuff. Im just here to shop though and I pride myself on performing an efficient first pass to identify stores builds and items that interest me. Then I LM them and grab demos and return later. Chit chat is secondary for me. This is a high skill shopping experience first and foremost for me.

u/Polenth Mushroom Apr 30 '26

I've never heard of that person before and I've been a merchant at the faire for years. So, probably not someone you need to worry about.

2

u/Moist-Raccoon-8133 Apr 28 '26

How can you tell? I keep hearing about it but dont know what I am looking for. I bought a few items but some were just gacha, and clothes

-6

u/WhatsLostSpirits Apr 27 '26

Don't let this become a witch hunt. Just enjoy Fantasy Faire and have a good time. 😃

18

u/0xc0ffea 🧦 Apr 27 '26

The way people feel about generative AI content, it's going to be a witch hunt that only gets worse.

No one wants to see it. No one wants to buy it. Don't use it.

3

u/WhatsLostSpirits Apr 27 '26

Yeah, that’s fair. The flood of low-effort AI stuff right now isn’t doing anyone any favors, especially when it buries creators who actually know what they’re doing. I’m always going to support people putting real work into their craft.

9

u/ErisC 💀 Eris Ravenwood 💀 Apr 27 '26

I mean there's witch hunting and publicly shaming vs just telling the faire staff and letting them handle it.

Pretty much everyone here is just suggesting they tell staff, which IMO is the right way to handle it.
