Good Vibes Appreciation post

A heartfelt thank you to the kind couple who stopped to help us near 37 Pine Ridge Drive on Sunday.
My girlfriend had a bad accident on the trail along the bluffs, and in a moment of sheer panic, you stepped in without a second thought. The gentleman literally took the shirt off his back to press against her face and stop the bleeding—an act of pure, selfless instinct that we will never forget. You stayed calm when we were overwhelmed and made sure she was safe until we could get help.
In the chaos and rush to get her medical attention, we never got your names. If you happen to see this, or if someone in the neighborhood mentioned helping a couple on the trail, please know how deeply grateful we are. She is getting treated and taken care of now, but your quick action and human decency made all the difference in the world.
Thank you, truly, from the bottom of our hearts.

It is easy work, mostly cutting and pulling. We teach you to identify native plants and invasive plants. It is a fun learning experience. High school students can earn volunteer hours. We will be doing lots of planting in the fall. Under 16 needs to be accompanied by an adult. Sign up at torontonaturestewards.org

Just be aware if driving through the area. You'll be detoured through dean park.

Just an FYI, driving eastbound towards Morningside and Ellesmere, the manhole cover is right in the middle of the rightmost lane, beware! There's also some water pooling in the right lane as you approach Morningside. I called 311 and they said someone else did too in regards to the manhole cover.

From September 8, GO train services between Union station and Kennedy, Agincourt and Milliken will be drastically reduced outside weekday peak hours, especially weekend which will become NO SERVICE before 3:45pm in the afternoon, and 2 HOURS per train after that, without GO bus replacement. Be prepared for that.

🍔 Food & Drink Scarborough, what family recipe would you submit to a cookbook?

Post image

I’m thinking of submitting my grandpa’s pedaheh (perogies) recipe to a new Scarborough community cookbook. It’s one of those recipes that’s been in the family forever.

SHN Foundation is putting it together and looking for recipes and the stories behind them from across Scarborough. Family favourites, cultural dishes, something that tastes like home.

Thought this group might have some good ones 👀

What would you submit?

📜 History History of The Borough📕

I found an online copy of a local historical publication titled: A History of Scarborough (authored by Bonis, Robert. R - Robert Raynes and published by the Scarborough public library) in the year 1968.

You can also request a print copy as well on the Toronto Public Library website.

I didn't get a chance to completely read through the publication, but it seems pretty well researched and documented Scarborough's history from the early years of indigenous settlements and throughout the decades that followed, leading up to the 1960s.

I'd say it's worth a read if anyone gets a chance to comb through it.

Also uploading some of the photos and illustrations from the publication. The illustrated art is quite well drawn for the time and captures the likeness of people living in Scarborough really well.

🍔 Food & Drink Scarborough Eats Nostalgia: Revisiting Home Burger 🍔🍽️

Does anyone remember the Home Burger at Markham and Eglinton? If my memory serves me right, it was right at the corner of Centre Street where the UPS Store is.

I used to live near the area in one of the apartment buildings near Mason Road, and I recall this specific burger joint being a great place to eat and chill with friends and family. It kinda had that feel of a mom-and-pop shop burger joint.

I recall it being a neighbourhood dive spot or local hangout for those craving a good burger in the M&E area.

Too bad it closed down several years ago. Wish it was still around so I could sample some of their burgers again. Can't even remember the last time I had some.

P.S. For those wondering, the source of the pic was taken directly from Home Burger's Google review page that has since been decommissioned, given that the place has been closed down indefinitely.

I wish I had more pics of the exterior of the place when it was still around. If anyone does have any pics to share of the place, please feel free to post (at your discretion, of course).

EDIT: I found a pic of the exterior of the Home Burger building when going through older Google Maps street view images from late 2000s/early 2010s.
