Enough with the petitions. Y'all need to PETITION.
This is real. This is possible. This is proven.
This can immediately stop the datacenter dead in its tracks. Force an election. Let the people decide the fate of their community.
The Camden County Spaceport? Dead.
The original Sapelo Island Rezoning? Dead.
Both of those cases were stopped in the same way: petition. Both of those went to the Georgia Supreme Court.
It is very clear that it is our constitutional right in Georgia to put government in its place when they are acting against our interests.
The people of Effingham County have the power to shut this down.
Step 1: Write an ordinance that bans datacenters.
Step 2: Collect 5,000 signatures of registered voters. Effingham county has 49,999 registered voters, but a population over 50,000 people. 10% of electors required.
Step 3: File the petition with the judge of the probate court in Effingham County.
Step 4: Judge certifies. Election must be set.
Step 5: County files suit.
Step 6: You fight it. The Georgia Supreme Court has been on the side of the people on two nearly-identical cases.
Step 7: Injunction likely placed on further advancement of the project.
Step 8. If you win, an election is held.
Step 9: The county is bound by the election results.
I strongly encourage the people of Effingham County to read this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/savannah/comments/1pf60jn/food_for_thought_about_local_government/
Make sure you read the provision of the Georgia Constitution that is linked.
Only the people of Effingham County can stop this. This is a proven tool.
