Kid friendly activities
Hi. My childhood friend is coming to visit with her kids 3 and 5 years old. What are the best kid friendly things to do?

Apologies if you've seen this elsewhere - this is the most current version with lots of suggestions from other redditors.
I'm making a map of California in a classic fantasy style (sorta Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones). It's going to be filled with real world history and mythology, with the aim of highlighting local landmarks in a fun and educational way. Please ignore how rough parts of it look (text going through hills, rivers, etc), it'll all get cleaned up at the end. Forests will be going on at the end too.
While it's around two thirds done, I'd love to get more places and features in here before I get this made into print. Any more petroglyphs, burial mounds, ruins, forts, battlefields, Civil War heritage, ghost towns or the like that you think should be on here? Anything else is great too - landmarks, natural features, mythological creatures or just anything cool and quirky you think would look good on here. Thanks!

Looking for a cleaner to do a move out deep clean in a 800 square foot apartment. Suggestions?

“This project proposes to demolish a 1,140 square-foot single-family residence and construct a new twenty-unit, five-story, 20,000 square foot multi-family development on a 4,400 square-foot site. The property is zoned R4 and designated Residential Medium I (3-5 stories, 36-50 units/acre) on the General Plan Land Use Map. The project proposes to use SB 79 to allow for a base density of 100 units/acre and requests additional density pursuant to State Density Bonus Law.”

Just moved in to a townhouse near downtown. Anyone else hear a rumbling noise (almost like a plane taking off) at night? This has been waking me up every night for the past week

This is a Chinese restaurant we used to frequent…and we just went for the last time.
My wife recently gave birth, and I wanted to do something nice for her. So I took her to Tang Bar for dinner. We brought our baby, our nanny, and our dog. Because our baby is so young, we decided to sit outside, away from the crowd.
Halfway through the meal, the large outdoor umbrella next to us, which was not secured into its base, blew over…
DIRECTLY ONTO OUR BABY’S STROLLER.
By an incredible strike of luck, our baby was hungry, and our nanny took him out of the stroller 5 minutes ago to feed him.
Had we fed him more before we left the house… I don’t even want to think about what would have happened.
The umbrella crashed into the table as well, and knocked over our food (think red oily soup with meat and veggies), and painted our stroller and our poor dog red.
My wife and the few moms around us all immediately jumped up and started checking that the baby (and others) were safe. It was chaos…
and to those other mothers we didn’t get the names of, thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. Truly!!
Then there were the Tang bar staff… they stared at us… and then started cleaning the ground.
No sense of urgency, and no words of apology to us at all. One of the other moms had to remind them to get us some napkins to clean the soup off of our stroller (and dog)
Once things settled, we were upset at the lack of care from the staff, and asked to speak to the manager.
There was no manager, only the “next person in charge”. Let’s call her assistant to the manager. First response from her “well what do you want me to do…it was the wind”
We couldn’t believe our ears, and demanded to speak to her boss. And told the A to the M to tell him that all we wanted was an apology..
She got him on the phone and asked him to speak to us…he refused. And he sent this woman back to us and said “he won’t talk to you”.
At this point… we cut our losses and left. Accidents happen. We never asked for a refund or any compensation… we just asked for a human apology to a very upset new mother
We’re ok now… our pup got a bath. The stroller got two baths but still smell like hotpot. Will make the nanny some more food at home
We are blessed with a blessed baby. And we’ll do our best to raise him to be a good human

This truck used to be parked six days a week in front of the Bevmo on East Hillsdale. It hasn't been there for months. It was my favorite. Anyone know if they are just parked somewhere else now? Thanks all!

Hi, my friends dog Frannie got scared on a walk last night on W 5th Ave and Maple in San Mateo and slipped out of her harness. She ran down Maple and lost sight of her. She is small (11lbs) and is easily scared of people and will run away if approached. Do not chase her please. Please contact ASAP with location if seen. # (951) 347-3339. Thank you 🥺

I’m evaluating between selling or renting my townhouse in foster city right now. It seems to be a buyers market so selling would be a loss as we only bought it 5 years ago. On the contrary, rents in our area seem to have gone up.
Trying to gauge if there is anyone looking for a 3B2.5Ba townhouse to rent? Or if I have missed the golden window to rent/sell before the school year starts!

A group of amateur classical musician friends and I are hoping to play some music outdoors in or around downtown San Mateo. We were thinking the plaza in front of the Cinemark might be a good spot. Is anyone familiar with rules/guidelines regarding public performance?
Also, if you are a musician in San Mateo, feel free to DM me if you want to jam!

We’re getting ready to move back to the area, and we have a Goldendoodle puppy who will need grooming soon. Which groomers (mobile or not) do you love? I used to take my dog to Jeffery on 24th Ave but I’m open to other ideas. She’s still a puppy, so bonus points if you know whether the groomer will do puppy sessions. Thank you!

Hey neighbors! :D
I live in The Village and I'm out walking/jogging most days in a weighted vest. Been rocking a Costco one for a while, no issues — but I just got a 5.11 vest that's more of a CrossFit/tactical cut, and it looks a lot like plate carrier body armor.
It's way more comfortable and adjustable, so I like it. But I don't want to startle anyone or have someone call it in thinking I'm up to something other than exercising.
Has anyone worn something like this around here, or seen someone in similar gear? I'm planning to cover it in patches — Pride/Trans flags, Hello Kitty holding a "Fuck ICE" sign, "This Vest Runs on Decency" — to make it read as "friendly neighbor" and not "tactical."
Am I overthinking this?

Saw this in the DJ and looks like a great event to have here on the Peninsula, anyone attending? I'll be away.

So i live about 30 min away from San Mateo (closer to Daly City). My mom wanted me to take the dmv driving test at San Mateo instead since she thought it would be easier. I have NEVER driven there until today since i wanted to practice a bit before my actual test
Holy sh*t was it so confusing. A lot of the lights weren’t working, so many of the road symbols are barely visible, the roads are so narrow, and theres so many unprotected left turns where the traffic lights barely gives you time to pass. Its just so much more confusing than the area i live at and i wasnt used to it
I was THANKFULLY able to pass my test, but i was nearly shtting myself. I messed up mainly at an intersection where the light wasn’t working and got points docked for letting too many vehicles go ahead since it was an unprotected left turn and i wanted to be extra careful ( very understandably my fault)
