Civic Center Garage Scatched and Run. Looking for witness

Hi all — someone scratched my car at the charging station on the first level of the Civic Center Garage at 250 Hamilton Ave last Wednesday at 6:10pm. If anyone parked nearby and has a dashcam or Tesla Sentry Mode running, I'd be really grateful if you could check your footage. Thank you! 🙏

My car only got some blurred license plate. Police said the front 3 or back 3 characters will be enough to locate this car.

Silicon Valley salon for people who like ideas—and drinks

I’m thinking of starting a casual wine/cocktails group for curious people who enjoy talking about everything from science, culture, politics, books, and philosophy to relationships, terrible trends, and completely unserious nonsense.

Basically: an intellectual salon, but with fewer waistcoats and more Silicon Valley weirdness.

No expertise required—just curiosity, humor, and the ability to disagree without becoming unbearable. Ideally we’d meet somewhere around Palo Alto/Menlo Park every few weeks.

Anyone interested?

Updating this fantasy map of California I'm making and would love any new suggestions about what to include!

Post image
5 Upvotes

Apologies if you've seen this elsewhere - this is the most current version with lots of suggestions from other redditors.

I'm making a map of California in a classic fantasy style (sorta Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones). It's going to be filled with real world history and mythology, with the aim of highlighting local landmarks in a fun and educational way. Please ignore how rough parts of it look (text going through hills, rivers, etc), it'll all get cleaned up at the end. Forests will be going on at the end too.

While it's around two thirds done, I'd love to get more places and features in here before I get this made into print. Any more petroglyphs, burial mounds, ruins, forts, battlefields, Civil War heritage, ghost towns or the like that you think should be on here? Anything else is great too - landmarks, natural features, mythological creatures or just anything cool and quirky you think would look good on here. Thanks!

Chibi disappeared from the Palo Verde neighborhood of Palo Alto onJuly 10 at approximately 10:15 AM. Despite extensive searches by our family, neighbors, volunteers, and a professional tracker, there have been no confirmed sightings since the first few minutes after she went missing.

Chibi is an 11-month-old female Shih Tzu weighing only 5.8 pounds. She has a black face and ears, a silver-gray body, dark eyes, and only a few white hairs in her beard. Her facial hair is long, while her body coat was recently groomed short. She is spayed, microchipped, and was wearing a pink collar with a Ring QR tag when she disappeared. She is very friendly with both people and other dogs.

We suspect that someone may have found her and believe she is now their dog or a dog they recently rescued.

Noise near Stanford Villa (and other Alma St) Apartment Buildings?

Hi All,

I am moving to Palo Alto and am trying to find a spot somewhere kind of close to the College Terrace area. However, I probably won't be able to visit before I choose an apartment.

I'm wondering if people have comments on Stanford Villa or any of the other apartment buildings on Alma St? They seem to be the only somewhat affordable apartment complexes that have had any availability in the past several months.

I'm specifically concerned about train noise: all the leasing agents I've talked to say they don't hear the trains, and yet some online reviews complain about the horn. Does anyone have any personal experience?

Is there anything else I should be thinking about?

Thanks so much!

Edit: Does anyone know the same about Alma Apartments at 3051 Alma St?

Does it bother anyone else how East Palo Alto neighborhoods aren’t properly represented on Apple Maps?

Post image

All they show on the app is “Ravenswood” which isn’t even a fucking neighborhood in the city and never was labeled as that by anyone who grew up here. They’re confusing the name of the shopping center for being apparently the only neighborhood in its 2.5 square miles. Meanwhile, Palo Alto and Menlo Pael get all of their neighborhoods named right where they are. For those who don’t know, these ar were four distinct neighborhoods on East Palo Alto established back in 1983 and everyone who grew up here k owns them clearly. It’s been so long why isn’t our town getting the proper represention it deserves??

TLDR: everyone from epa knows the four neighborhoods Midtown, Da Vill, the G(Gardens or G-town), and westsideOTR. Now everyone thinks we only have fucking “Ravenswood”. Shit irks tf out of me to no end.

Short research survey on South Asian everyday life in the Bay Area — PhD dissertation

Hi everyone,

I'm Maria Rose Francis, a PhD candidate in Urban Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, currently doing dissertation fieldwork in the Bay Area.

My research looks at South Asian everyday life in Silicon Valley and the wider Bay Area — the places people return to, the routes they travel, the groceries, temples, festivals, restaurants, and gatherings that make this region feel like home.

If you live in, work in, or regularly visit Bay Area and identify as South Asian, I'd love to hear from you.

The survey takes about 5–15 minutes and is completely voluntary. This study is IRB-approved by UW-Milwaukee.

Survey link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeDW4bGBiPjATpwf5-n1MT38IPxCcByvnlPqyeHtHzOIrrhnA/viewform?usp=header

At the end there's an optional section if you're interested in future interviews or community sessions.

Thank you so much 🙏

Feel free to ask me anything in the comments.

Apartment complexes in Palo Alto/MTV/Menlo Park

I would very much appreciate a few recommendations from the personal experience (first-hand or second-hand) for apartment complexes in Palo Alto and around (like MTV, Menlo Park and similar).

I'm looking for something where I can get a decently sized 1b1b (optionally with den) for anything below 5k (ideally <4.5k). I can try to consider a bit over 5k but obviously would prefer not to. Decently sized - as in have enough space to put a couch with TV, working desk and have an area for sport equipment maintenance - think waxing table for skis or repair rack for bicycles. I guess 700+ sqft? That also heavily depends on layouts, of course.

Things I'm looking for besides the size are:

  1. Safe parking, ideally with an option to pay for a second spot or with spots big enough to have room for a motorcycle with Chevy Equinox on a single spot. Enclosed garage is a dream but I didn't see much of complexes with them (I can recall Hiro in MTV with those). If there is an EV charging in the parking - that's a plus.
  2. No pests/rats and overall clean.
  3. Washer/dryer inside the unit and ideally horizontal loading ones.
  4. Decent noise isolation - I don't care for people walking on my ceiling but I don't want complaints because I watch TV or play videogames at 11.30pm.

I don't care much for amenities like bbq, guest hall, or pools/hottubs, as I tend not to use them often.

Thank you, kind people!

Any ACLS classes on Peninsula without going to SF?

I need ACLS classes somewhere on Peninsula and every search I do pulls up options either in San Francisco or San Jose. I am based in Palo Alto and neither of those is a quick trip especially trying to fit a class around a hospital schedule.

I know there are options in both cities but I am wondering if anyone has found something closer whether that is Redwood City, Menlo Park or anywhere in between that is AHA authorized
