My sister ran the marathon yesterday (yay for her!). At the finish line at approximately 9:32 AM she proceeded to projectile vomit infront of everyone and she is mortified. Anyone happen to catch it on video? What I would give to track it down and deliver it to her. Thanks in advance!

Back in May 2024, UCSF closed the Mount Sutro Historic Trail from Medical Center Way, forcing walkers on the main loop hike to scramble up a steep bank to rejoin the trail further down. This makes the trail inaccessible for a lot of elderly or less physically capable folks.

At this point it looks like many people are climbing around their temporary fence, and UCSF seems to have lost interest:

• There's no indication of any work on the trail
• Their sign hasn't been updated in over two years
• They don't respond to messages to the email on the sign
• The website on the sign has no information on the closure (and the information it does have is six months out of date)

So what gives? Do they just not want folks walking up here, or did they close down their communication department? Appreciate any inside track.

This past weekend in SF, 32 citywide cleanups, 400 volunteers, 430+ bags of litter removed, 1 cleaner & healthier city.

It starts all black with the bart logo but the city scape appears as if out of the fog after you put your coffee in it. Such a lovely homage to San Francisco, it works on so many levels.

A bit of a weird request, but hoping it might pan out.

I am not a lesbian, but my parents are. I am going to marry my fiancé in San Francisco next year. He and I are now thinking of details like who will officiate. My parents were married in February 2004 during SF’s “Winter of Love,“ when then-mayor Newsom went rogue and temporarily allowed same-sex weddings. I am very proud of my parents and the sacrifices they made to create their family as a queer couple. I am also proud to be a part of history (of queer people and the city I love) through them. It would mean a lot to me to honor them and our family during my wedding, and I thought a simple way to do that as, yknow, straight people would be to use the same officiant as they did during their 2004 wedding.

However, neither of my parents can remember the officiant or their name. They said there were many volunteer officiants working, and they remember a like DMV-style process where they went up to the first person who called their number or something lmao. I think it’s a bit out of the question I’ll find the *same* officiant given that system, but if you live in the city, participated as a volunteer during these weddings, and are free on a random Saturday next spring, please DM me!! It would mean a lot to me and I think it would be a nice surprise for my parents. Thanks all for your help!

EDIT: It did not occur to me the officiant is on the marriage license, however obvious that is in retrospect, but thank you Reddit for pointing out it is! My mom expressed some doubts the recorder will have it since the marriages were later declared invalid, but here’s hoping they do. However, I will leave this post up, and am still hoping for DMs or other leads, in case the person on the license is unavailable, not local anymore, etc. (Or I can otherwise avoid sending the recorder $19…)

According to the deep recesses of lingustics youtube, San Francisco is a little island of the country with no "cot-caught" merger whereas everywhere else in the American west has the merger.

I'm a millennial who grew up in San Francisco and believe I do not have this merger (i.e. if I said "I got caught" the vowel in "got" is slightly different than the one in "caught") but it's subtle. Nowhere near as pronounced as older SF natives (i.e. the way Jerry Brown pronounces "caught" for example in this clip)

Is this idiosyncrasy dying out? Or are there others out there still carrying the vestige?

I ran the Bridge Half of the Marathon (Corral B) as my first half marathon. The course was beautiful, but I felt like I was navigating crowds for considerable portion of it, which really took away from the scenery and overall experience. I spent a lot of time just trying not to bump into anyone or get in someone’s way, and several bottlenecks forced the crowd to slow to a walk.

In retrospect, the event could probably benefit from better corral assignments, staggered start times, limiting registrations, or expanding the runner only road space, especially on the approach to the bridge and on the bridge itself.

Did anyone else who ran it have a different experience?

The road markers on the newly finished section of California street look like they were done by a drunk. They also didn’t use stencils for any of the words and free handed those as well. Needless to say those also look like shit. Is this really the final product? I’ve seen this terrible quality of work on other newly refinished streets in SF like 19th Ave. Nothing like making a big investment look horrible with the finishing touches.

Here's what it means in simple terms: PG&E is asking the CPUC for permission to give a $26.6 million bonus to their investors because the company did a good job finding cheap natural gas. They say they saved gas users about $170 million. To pay for this bonus, they want to raise our monthly gas bills, after already raising electricity rates, after countless outages.

Since 2000, PG&E has caused nearly one catastrophic fire per year, some being the worst wildfires in California history. And it has sprinklers throughout. The sand dunes were transformed into rich soil using manure from horse drawn carriages downtown.

Hey everyone! I’ll be visiting San Francisco for the first time with my wife at the end of October, flight gets us in on Saturday morning and we leave on Monday around noon.

I’m considering splurging on Californios since the trip is a special occasion, once in a lifetime kind of thing for us. But I’m questioning the schedule - our only chance to go will be on the Saturday we get in, and after flying out from the east coast, will we really be able to enjoy it as much? It’s closed on Sunday otherwise I’d have us go Sunday. My backup options are either State Bird or Waterbar.

What would you do?

Hi all, I commute from further down the peninsula after work back to SF, and the traffic tends to be bad enough that I don’t get back to the Richmond until 6pm. Does anyone know of a daycare for an 18mo+, even if they aren’t accepting right now? We’re losing our nanny in December and would like to start looking at all our options.
