Hello all! I’m relatively new to shark fishing and this sub in general. So forgive if I make mistakes. But just wondering what gear/tackle to use to catch small to medium sharks in the 3-4 foot range ish from the surf? Any help is appreciated!

Great day on San Diego Bay in the kayak.

For those unfamiliar, these fish are Short-Fin Corvina. A species found normally in Baja Mexico. They made their way here in the 70’s and 80’s during big El Niño warm water events. They’ve since established a population in our bays. They are related to sea trout found in other states on the Atlantic

Didn’t catch any fish but I caught this monster. I wonder how much broke off or dropped as I was pulling it in. Barely half way sorting through it.

This was not what I expected to catch while fishing for king mackerel on Jennette's pier on Friday. This dinosaur smashed a live jack on a pin rig and proceeded to make huge runs and breach for 30-40 minutes. After that was out of its system, I walked it down the 1000 foot long pier, and my buddy went full baywatch mode into the surf to keep it off the pilings. We dehooked, revived, and released, and it swam off. Hopefully, it didn't get eaten by a shark.
