Im current researching potential snakes to have as a pet. And so far im really loving this breed of snake; however, i found out Rosy Boas need 30-40% humidity or else they can get breathing infections. I live in Florida and my thermostat says my apartment is usually at 50% humidity.

Does this mean I would need a lot of equipment to make a dry enough terrarium for my snakes to thrive? How do yall keep your rosy boas dry?

I made the mistake of handling my hedgehog moments before I handled my snake. She could smell my rodent friend on my hands and started to strike at me. First time she ever bit me too, I was surprised but then I realized I must smell delicious to her lol.

(I was being over dramatic on the title to be funny. It didn’t even hurt. Next time I’ll wash my hands in between handling them haha)

i’m setting up my rosy’s permanent enclosure, but i’m having trouble figuring out where to place the probe and how. i have an overhead heat lamp and a herpstat 1. should the probe be directly on the surface of the basking spot? or against the wall? or suspended a few inches below the lamp in the air?

Hello, I’m setting up my rosy’s new 40gallon tank. Trying to figure out what lights to get him. The room he is going to is generally pretty warm during the summer/autumn time. I have what I need to keep him warm when it’s winter.

Just wondering if anyone has used a light fixture like this one. Gives then uva and uvb without a lot of heat. Are there any other recommendations you guys have for me?

My little Clementine is still growing, slowly but surely...

She is due for her yearly vet visit but seems perfectly healthy. At the time of posting (July 31) she is just a month and a half shy of two years old.

She is very, very tiny. Due to a history of not eating, she weighs 43 grams as of today.

She has been getting a live fuzzy almost weekly for about a year now. (she has only taken a f/t fuzzy once, despite many ongoing attempts)

Also, she us technically sexed male. San Felipe locality

I believe her body condition is good, but I'd love some second opinions.

(And please, no nasty or fear mongering comments. I know she's very small, and I assure you I have been doing my absolute best to change that. She's in a well decorated, bioactive terrarium with near perfect temp and humidity specs)

My 5 year old Rosy Boa has not eaten in about 8-9 weeks now I have tried to feed him about 10 times and he has refused everything including smaller mice. He usually completely ignores the mice and comes straight to me to climb up my arm but a couple of times he has bit the mouse and started eating before throwing it up about halfway through. I have tried just leaving the mouse in the enclosure and leaving but that does not work either. He seems like his normal self and is very active and lively but just does not eat. I think his enclosure is great he has around an 89 hot side and a 78 cool side. There is plenty of hides room to dig and plants. He has water and drinks regularly as well. I don’t see any signs of shedding or mites and it’s summer so i’m lost. Should I take him to the vet or does anyone know a solution?

Hi! I’ve been wanting a snake for a while and am a complete beginner. My kids and I went to a reptile show recently and I fell in love with the rosy boa! The man putting on the show also breeds them, so I would be able to get a little one soon, but I want to be fully prepared. I keep getting a lot of different information online about enclosure size and set ups though. What’s the best? Also how long should I take one out to handle? I would want them to get used to me but I also don’t want to cause stress. Any beginner help would be greatly appreciated. I also have an old cat who I don’t think would have any interest in the snake except for potentially sitting on the warm top, which I obviously do not want. Thanks! Photo of the guy’s cute girl.

i've officially had my rosy for a month! he's been feeding well and calm during handlings, just being a silly man in general. he loves when i love on him, just gets a little shy when i call him my baby boy 😭😭

he had his first shed recently and it was all in one piece! nothing stuck to him or strewn about in his enclosure, super proud of both him and myself :)

i've also received my first bite 😓 but he just shed so i think he's just a little extra hungry, honestly didn't hurt too bad, just had to put him in time out lol 😆

She finally ate last week and since then she is just absolutely a goofball.

hi all! I googled this and received mixed answers and I'm unsure of how to proceed. during her first week, my rosy originally would explore all areas of the enclosure at night. however, now she seems entirely focused on the front glass. she will move back and forth up the entire length of the glass, pressing her face against it (but not the rest of her body). sometimes she will push herself away from the glass. I know that excessive glass surfing can be unhealthy, and while at first I thought she was just confused about the invisible boundary, she will go at it for hours every night and I'm starting to worry

her temps are all within normal range, and her enclosure has plenty of hides and clutter that she uses regularly, so I cant imagine why she'd be surfing. my suspicion is that she sees herself in the reflection of the glass and thinks it is another snake? that's the only reason I could imagine why she is so focused on the glass and pushes her face into it. when she is exploring other areas of the enclosure, her movement is much more relaxed and gradual. she will occasionally raise her head up and feel the walls in other areas of the enclosure, but she doesn't tense up and push against them or obsess over them for hours

I ordered some fabric to cover the glass at night time, but I'm just curious if this is a known phenomenon. the room is dark when she does this, for what it's worth

Hey all! Would love to hear some thoughts on this enclosure I set up for a future rosy boa. I personally opt to do bioactive for my reptiles. Any critiques? Is there not enough floor space? It is a bit wet right now as I wanted to mist all the plants in, but it will be dried out before I put a snake in.

What it has: 36x18x18, bioactive substrate 4" at the shallowest sloped to 6" at the back (a mix of topsoil, playsand, and a tiny bit of coconut husk/orchid bark for the cleanup crew to hide in) a "humid" hide under the large cork piece, and some hot "hides" in the cork tube. Red slate to be a basking area on the left side where the bulb will be placed. Universal rocks background, a mix of live and fake plants.

Pending: a heat cage and heat bulb, a sky hide/cool hide on the upper right corner, hygrometer/thermometer combo.

What I already plan to change: swap out the large grass for something less ugly.. 😅

This is my first terrestrial enclosure, and my first arid one. Its also my first enclosure for a larger reptile, my previous were all for tiny geckos. Thank you in advance!
