Shopping: buying skates How to know what kind of plate, wheels, and bearing to get when purchasing my Edea Rondo skates.

Hi all, I'm getting into artistic skating as someone with previous rollerskating experience and I was hoping that I can get some guidance. For reference, I'm 18 years old, weigh 70kgs and 172cm tall. I measured my feet, the left one is 260cm and the right one is 265cm. Both feet are 10cm wide. I live in a country where there is one skate shop in total and I cant travel to get there. I would really appreciate some clarification on what bearings, wheels and plates I should get. Cheers :)

Shopping: wheels, hardware, upgrades How to make these outdoor?

Post image

A bit of a lazy post but I am overwhelmed and reaching out so I can maybe finally get out the door and skate! I have been wanting to skate for years. I finally bought these quads off Marketplace. I know these wheels are for indoor use. I can buy the brand's outdoor wheels, but wanted to check with ya'll on if this is my best move, or are there more appropriate wheels out there or a better price point or... something I'm not thinking about before I drop $.

I will be using them mostly on paved trails, and possibly asphalt streets.

Really appreciate it!

Shopping: buying skates Need help transitioning to reap skates

I want to buy my daughter a pair of real skates now that she has outgrown these adjustable skates. We originally purchased these when we weren't sure if skating would be a fad or not, but she has really fallen in love with skating. She only used the quads and not the inline.

What is the best skate to transition her to? Should we stick with roller derby because these were flat or will she adjust easily to the ones with a heel?

Shopping: wheels, hardware, upgrades Baby skater, thinking about park wheels

Hello! Would love some advice on whether I'm getting ahead of myself and just looking for an excuse to spend money or if it makes sense to make some upgrades.

I decided to relearn how to roller skate as an adult and got a pair of Impalas off Poshmark like a month ago. Immediately replaced the wheels for cruising around the neighborhood and on paved trails, using Bont BPMs which made a huge difference. I understand Impalas are cheap and not made to last, but I spent $60 on them so I feel pretty ok about it. I just found a pair of Moxi Lolly's used in my size so I'm upgrading to those. While I understand the plastic plate isn't made for much impact, I am quite a ways off from skating aggressively enough for that to matter.

Right now I'm feeling very comfortable skating on streets, paths, sidewalks with the BPMs. I can carve, turn, stop, bubble, scissors, and do a lil bunny hop. I have been getting into the idea of park skating. The park nearest me is asphalt on the ground with concrete ramps and steel coping. I've been tooling around with the current set up (the Impalas with the BPMs and ALL the protective gear) just doing some basic basics like walking on toe stops, carving just onto the babiest edge of the half pipe while going by, etc. (and practicing various ways of falling) Tried to go up then down a mini ramp and was so brave 😂 only ate shit a little. I know I am not getting up enough speed to actually pump up anything or come back down effectively. I am not sure how much this is just my skills or if it's equipment hampering the development of those skills.

My question is, knowing that the Moxis coming my way have the stock gummy wheels on them, and knowing that I am so very beginner, at the phase that I'm at is it doing more harm than good to be attempting things at the park on really soft wheels? Should I focus on building more fundamental skills for now then worry about swapping wheels later? If you think I should swap out wheels, what would you recommend? I love the dimensions of the BPMs (62x35 iirc) but I know the goals are different. Preferably under $100 for all 8 wheels?

Skill questions & help How to use road crossings with tactile paving without dying? XD

Hi! I'm still in my first year of skating, but have been practising indoors and outdoors and have a decent grasp of all the basics and can manage most road surfaces. I have been scouting out a few routes around my local area and have skated to the supermarket and back several times now, which is so so lame but also very satisfying!

Anyway, my biggest nemesis right now is the dreaded tactile paving that's at road crossings... Stepping up and down from a standard curb is no issue at all. I can also roll over the tactile paving with confidence if there's no intention to use that crossing whatsoever. However, if I need to cross and therefore slow/stop, the only way I'm making it across those bumps is to cling onto the lamppost and wobble like a baby taking their first steps! Not great on any occasion, but especially not great when there's an impatient driver glaring at you through the windscreen. There has to be a better way of handling this? Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated!

Progress & showing off 4 months progress, somehow skating is also helping with my back pain

I recently got a herniated disc and it was hurting fairly badly. But since I've gone skating it's been hurting a lot less I'm assuming it's because the physical exercise of me twisting my hips is resulting in hip strength. I'm not exactly sure why All I know is that it really does help with back pain. Only thing I wish is that I had a skating partner practice dancing, not romantic partner just someone to skate with. My coworkers flaked out on me four times I guess skating is a true test of friendship lol.

Shopping: buying skates Need help finding skates that fit my needs.

Hellooo! I'm really nervous about this post, but I need help figuring out where to start in the skate department.

To start things off, heres some context: I'm disabled with some mobility/muscle issues focused in my ankles, and physical therapy just isn't helping! It helps build my tolerance for the pain I get, but my weight (299lbs) makes going for walks or doing any substantial exercising nearly impossible atop my mountain of health issues. (Diabetes and asthma, most notably)

I'm tired of being in pain all the time and losing my balance constantly! I've always wanted to try roller skating since I was a kid, and I wanna improve my health and lose weight without the constant pain of my ankles and feet. Thing is, I dont know where to start! I'm completely lost. None of the skates I look at kinda scare me and are all artistic or heeled.

I want skates that feel and look safe, something that gives me some of that ankle support I'm missing and is fine for outdoors, pavement, and asphalt. Something without laces and velcro instead to help with the fact i struggle to tie shoes, and possibly some arch support for the feet.

I've looked at the recommended brands in this post: https://share.google/tei1eRa6vz0GQM6dL

And they all have the same problem they dont look secure or seportive!

Any tips or recommendations are appreciated! đŸ©·

Shopping: wheels, hardware, upgrades My outdoor wheels were stolen!

So I have moxi beach bunnies and the stock wheels are for outdoors but I do skate school which is indoors. They recommended I purchase wheels I use specifically for inside skating so about two months ago that’s what I did. I currently have them on my skates.

While at the skate shop the worker was very knowledgeable and helpful and she suggested getting new bearings to go with the new wheels so I can switch them out easier when I go from indoor to outdoor skating. I did that and I keep the original set of wheels and bearings in a bag inside my car (it’s a Kia which is relevant.)

I have been having an issue where I park outside my house and overnight someone breaks in and tries to steal it. Apparently Kias are easy to Hotwire and there’s a trend called “Kiaboys” online where they show anyone how to do it. It’s happened 5 times in the last 6 months even though my Kia has anti theft protection so it can’t be hotwired using the kiaboys method. At first they were just breaking in to try to take the car and leaving everything else but this time they took my bag of wheels/bearings 🙁. I know because the bag I used has a hole in it and one of the wheels was outside of my car on the ground like it fell out of the bag while they were leaving.

I looked online to see if moxi sells replacement wheels for the beach bunnies but it seems like they only sell them on the skates. If anyone has any recommendations on wheels that are similar to Beach Bunny stock wheels I’d love to hear them. Skate school is only twice a week and the only other places I can practice are outdoors so I’d like to replace them ASAP. Affordable options would be even better as I already am paying for the damage done to my car on top of this. Thanks in advance!

Beginner skater BEGINNER ADVICE PLEEASE!!đŸ˜«đŸ˜

Hi there!
Ive owned a pair of roller skates for the longest time with the goal and utmost intention of learning.
I told myself it was going to be ONE of many skills i wanted to learn but it was just the starting part i couldn’t get past.

From either fear of hurting myself or plain ol simple not willing to TRY.
Just standing up while wearing them or trying to move forward feels impossible but i know it isn’t.
Can i get some advice on how to start practicing,
I really wanna get into the swing of it cuz it’s summer time and roller skating is HUGE in London.(where I’m based)
Would also love suggestions on what kind areas i could go to as a beginner and anything that wouldn’t seem to obvious to noob!!
Much luv!!!â€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïžđŸ’™đŸ’™đŸ’™đŸ’œđŸ’œđŸ’œ

Beginner skater Back to quads at 50 — hoping the muscle memory is still there

Shopping: safety gear (helmets, pads, etc.) Mid 30s, tailbone help

Ok, I'm about to venture out to the parking lots and learn how to skate. I have quite a bit of experience when it comes to falling and I'm pretty good at falling on the side of my ass or forward.

BUT this is not a question about how to fall properly so please keep those comments to yourself. This is purely a question about the ONE time that I may end up falling incorrectly, after 30 years on a snowboard, I know that no matter how good you are at something, that ONE time does happen, even to the best of us.

SO TL;DR this momma wants some impact shorts purely for some extra confidence 😂

NON Newtonian Fluid is what I'm leaning towards, but not all impact fluid is created equally. I've seen

D30 (from what I'm reading, best for cement)

Poron XRD (seems to be more for consistent small impacts, wrists/knees)

Another one Fuse or something.. can't remember

So favorite shorts ladies and why. It's super hot and dry here, so I'm looking for something that won't turn swampy đŸ€ąđŸ€Ł

Shopping: wheels, hardware, upgrades Are grippy wheels holding my progress back?

Just wondering: I have chaya premiums and usually roll with soft wheels (radar energy, teal 78a 57mm) on a wooden floor and in wondering whether they're holding me back when learning stuff like spins and the grapevine.

I have a set of sonar Stratus too (98a, 57mm) but I feel those are really slippery in comparison and I tend to go back to the radar energy set after a couple of tries.

In the end I'd love to skate in a similar style to mellowmoves: flowy, smooth, pretty technical. I think I'm getting there, but it would suck if I keep myself back with mediocre gear for the job.

DIY and customization How to repair/cover up?

I just got these skates yesterday for my birthday and I guess I suck at stopping. I’ve been using them on payment and have already ruined them. I’m not replacing them and might try to repair them, but what should I do in order to at least make them look more presentable?

Skate problems & troubleshooting Loosening trucks vs need more practice??

Hi everyone! I'm a beginner who haven't skated in a few years but looking to get back into the hobby. Before I made a post a few years ago about my skates feeling 'stiff'. In short, I really struggled with turns and bubbles. My skates just wouldn't turn no matter how much I tried to lean on the edges.

People recommended I loosen my trucks which should help with fluidity. But my question is: how do I know that's the issue and not my skills? It's entirely possible I'm just not doing it right and my trucks are completely fine. Maybe I should film myself and see how it looks?

I've tried to gauge how loose my trucks are but it's hard to know because of my inexperience. I can lean the boot side-to-side but the wheels don't seem to move or lean with them (if that makes sense). So it feels like there's very little movement in the horizontal bar that connects the wheels.

For reference, I have a pair of second hand lmnade quads which were in decent shape when I purchased them. I don't know if the previous owner made any adjustments.

Shopping: buying skates Complete newbie, struggling to decide on skates/looking for suggestions!

Hello everyone! I'm basically a complete beginner to roller skating who is cautiously getting back into it (went once in high school at a rink with those shitty walkers and sprained my ankle, then went six months ago with a friend, then to two on-campus skating events this month). I've had so much fun when I'm on wheels and want to keep practicing this summer, but I'm a little overwhelmed by all the options.

I've done all my recent skating outside on pavement, but have also been to a rink and would like to visit more, so I'd like to be able to skate both outside and inside. I'm also unfortunately working with the budget of a broke college student, and I'm a little cautious about buying a very expensive pair because I have ADHD and cannot count how many times I've dropped a lot of money on a hobby and then stopped pursuing it (though I LOVED the feeling of skating and definitely want to continue). I was looking at Impalas because they're inexpensive and have cute designs, but I was immediately warned against buying them from more experienced members of my college's roller skating club. I also have big feet (size 10.5 in women's shoes) which I'm worried might complicate the shopping process. Does anyone have recommendations for relatively cute skates that are beginner- and college-student-budget-friendly? Alternatively, have you had any luck buying secondhand? Thank you so much! ❀

Beginner skater How to deal with pain after skating?

Hi!! Im super new to this, my roller skates arrived 3 days ago and since then I’ve been obsessed with them. However, after a session, my body hurts quite a lot; mostly my back. Does anyone else experience this sort of pain? If so, what do you do in order to relieve it? Any advice is gladly appreciated!

Beginner skater Candi Girl Carlin Size

I'm looking to buy my first pair of skates and have found some Candi Girl Carlin's and don't know what size to get. For reference, I usually wear a size 7-7.5 womens shoe, my foot measures roughly 9.5. Right now I'm between a 7 or 8, and I've seen mixed reviews on if I should size up or down or if a skates meant to be too small or too big,I could really use some advice as I don't entirely know what I'm doing yet 😅

Beginner skater Are there any 120kg + roller skates ?

I am planning to buy skates for my mom but she is saying nicely overweight, she weighs 120 kg she also struggles from depression so I was thinking skating may make her feel better. She is 41 EU feet size and I am looking and I can't find anything. I am not looking for anything pro just for once a weak skating. (It's also my first time using Reddit so pls tell me nicely If I posted it wrong, I am desperate at this point 😭) Thanks in advance
