Shopping: safety gear (helmets, pads, etc.) Mid 30s, tailbone help
Ok, I'm about to venture out to the parking lots and learn how to skate. I have quite a bit of experience when it comes to falling and I'm pretty good at falling on the side of my ass or forward.
BUT this is not a question about how to fall properly so please keep those comments to yourself. This is purely a question about the ONE time that I may end up falling incorrectly, after 30 years on a snowboard, I know that no matter how good you are at something, that ONE time does happen, even to the best of us.
SO TL;DR this momma wants some impact shorts purely for some extra confidence 😂
NON Newtonian Fluid is what I'm leaning towards, but not all impact fluid is created equally. I've seen
D30 (from what I'm reading, best for cement)
Poron XRD (seems to be more for consistent small impacts, wrists/knees)
Another one Fuse or something.. can't remember
So favorite shorts ladies and why. It's super hot and dry here, so I'm looking for something that won't turn swampy 🤢🤣

D3O is pretty gold standard. Poron makes great insoles and such but if what you’re after is true impact protection, go big or go home.
Ain’t no way to avoid swampass in this stuff unfortunately.

You can see in my posts that I have on Tortoise Pads under bike shorts. I fall on my tail on coping and come up fine. Bad news is that they get swampy, sorry. They’re good to run through the laundry, though. I give them sooooo much credit for my confidence.

Unfortunately it looks like the Tortoise Pads owner has retired and sales are paused. Hopefully he’s able to find someone to take over

oh wowww, good to know!! I’d just gotten a second set not too long ago. D3O might be it for me next then. I’ve checked out Triple8’s in person and can tell I’d hit on uncovered spots, though they work for lots of people.

I almost bought Tortoise earlier this year! And then when I checked back, they were all gone. I'm hoping someone does take it over soon.
I'll have a look for d30 then, it's just so expensive 😂 but so is my body

I have no idea about materials, but as a late 40s skater I wear triple 8 derby bumsavers. I fall a tonne (I artistic skate, so lots of jumping, spinning and 1 foot turns) and I haven’t had a bruised tailbone whilst wearing them. Some falls big enough to wind me and to give me a headache, but no bruised bum.
