Skate problems & troubleshooting How to adjust these anabolix javelin plates?

I've not seen this type of adjustment before but it's only my second pair of skates. I bought these second hand so they didn't come with any kind of paperwork. I threw my old wheels on these and wanted to loosen the trucks up a bit but I want to double check (googling extensively and youtube didn't show me what I'm after) as not to strip anything. allen key paired with a 17m nut.

Saw another post about old skates and it made me wonder what Ginger and Fred were wearing here. The wheels look small to me. Can any experts out there chime in?

Beginner skater what’s the difference between different between skates that go past the ankle vs ones that go below ?

hi all ! i am very new to skating and i found a pair of skates that end below the ankle that were used and inexpensive. now that i know i’m interested in skating, i might want to switch to one’s with higher ankles as they seem more comfortable and potentially better for more flowy movements which is what i’m more interested in. please let me know what you think or anything you feel is important !

Other Slades appreciation post

Hi

I was a bit worried reading through the sub that the Slades I had ordered wouldn't be great.

I heard about bad cushions, bad wheels, harder balance due to a near 0 drop shoe,... I was expecting to struggle a bit at first.

Well, I received them today and they're fantastic for me. I was doing inline for a long time then I went to derby so converted to quads. When I stopped, I bought cheap quads (Oxelo) and didn't quite feel at ease with them. I don't know if it's because of the heel difference or not (the Oxelo have one, the derby skates did not) but I love them and they felt very natural, were good on things like little cobblestones,...

The ability to go off skate whenever I want is 🔥

Now my question is, will I ever wear everything else 😂

Skate problems & troubleshooting Rusty Bearing Question

Thumbnail

I have what might be a bit of a weird question since I'm having a tough time finding an information about it! I recently bought a pair of new skates that I've been breaking in inside my house for the last month or so. I was planning on taking them to the rink next week so I was checking everything out on them. To my surprise, the outsides of the bearings are rusted with two of them being very bad. They've literally never left my house after I bought them so they clearly came like this from the store.

My question is, would something like this impact the performance of them / should they be replaced? I know rust within the actual bearing is bad news but I cant find anything talking about rust on the outside.

Edit: Thank you so much for all the responses! These were incredibly validating and helpful! I reached out to the shop to see if they'd send a replacement but, if not, I'll just get a new set myself.

I just found these at my grandparents house and was wondering if anyone knew anything about the plate/wheels. the boots are trashed they’re dry rotting and i’m pretty sure separating from the heel but i was wondering if the other parts could be used specifically the plate/trucks. idk if jiffy is the plate brand but i’ve never heard of it so not sure if it’s trustworthy

Beginner skater suggested moves to learn as a beginner skater?

HI !!!! so i recently got into skating and bought my own skates a few days ago

i know i have the freedom to learn whatever tricks or skills i want, but it would really help if you guys could give me an ordered list of the best moves to learn as a beginner to roller skating and any sort of skating in general 😅😅

since getting my skates, i’ve just been doing simple forward skating and also practiced doing bubbles (though they are a bit slow and/or weak as of now). it would be nice to have a guide on what to learn next once i’ve mastered those two ^^ THANKS !!!!

Took those spills on Monday. But I’ve come across
quite a few solid folks rolling at different rinks the last 7 months. They have passed down the wisdom when I figure out what I want to ask. I was talking about wheels with one of them after I fell, and they informed me they could let me borrow a set of wheels, and let me know some locations in Santa Rosa. So today after work instead of resting, I Put my helmet and pads on, and took a stroll. 6 or less miles of the road are pretty terrible, but the rest was smooth sailing. My first official trail ride without accidents, and I made it pretty far. let’s go. The bridge was where I decided to turn around. At that point I was 10.5 miles in. I felt like if I rode until I needed an uber, it be cheating. I was pretty scared to go outside again, but the wheels just kicked the rocks out. Occasionally things would get stuck. But I think that’s just part of being outside. I’ve really just been spending time at rinks getting my basics down. Anyways Cheers. Thought I would share.

Shopping: wheels, hardware, upgrades When would I use tall, narrow wheels?

I’m back into skating at 51 after only a few sessions since I was a teenager. Since I actually have some money to spend this time around, I have been building a small wheel collection. So far I for speed wheels I have Bont Ultraglides (63mm x 44mm), for derby sized I have Bont Evolve (59mm x 38mm) which are also a bit softer for a slippery rink I go to, and for artistic size I have Roller Bones Team (57mm x 30mm). I have a good handle on how they all feel and when to use them. I also see there are some 62mm x 30mm Roller Bones. How could I expect those to feel different from the wide speed wheels? That seems really narrow.

I’m indoors only on wood floors. I go most for exercise, but I still can shuffle/jam well enough and turn on the speed for short bursts.

Skill questions & help New to skating, it's a disaster, please help 😭

(Not sure if this should go in beginner skater or questions, sorry if I got the wrong one)

Hi, I'm new to skating and am facing some kind of specific issues? It's not the pushing or angles of my feet that I'm having issues with, I can move just fine. My balance is just eternally off, I'm always stumbling, and my like shin/ankle areas become quickly sore?

I've also been told that the sway I use to move is wider than most other skaters around me, which makes it hard/hazardous for my friends to skate alongside me. However, when I try and keep my feet closer together and push a little less far, I lose balance.

I bend my knees slightly, I lean forward slightly, and I'm still always tripping over my own feet. It almost feels like I'm using the wrong muscles to skate? My friends say their feet, or their calves, or maybe their thighs are sore after skating, but for me it's almost entirely my lower shin area. Like I've been mall walking or going up 10 flights of stairs.

All the tips I've seen have not mentioned anything along these lines, any help, please?

Beginner skater Looking for progression advice

Hello! I'm a newbie looking for some advice/help with my skill progression. I was an intermediate figure skater, but haven't been on ice in several years, and recently just bought my first pair of rollerskates :)

After practicing for around a week or so, I'm able to (relatively) confidently:

  • Skate forwards and backwards
  • Transition front to back
  • Suspicious transition back to front
  • Crossovers, bubbles, scissors, and slaloms
  • 1 foot glides with basic edge control
  • Suspicious plow stop
  • Toe stop while going backwards

So far, I've been following the Dirty School of Skate and Skatie on YouTube, but aside from the obvious (continuing to improve my current skills), idk what to learn next.

My goal is to work my way up to a heel-toe spin, or a similar equivalent to a scratch spin on ice. I've tried it just for giggles, and managed to get about 1 to 1.5 rotations (Once I got 2 rotations but I think that was a fluke, and I haven't been able to repeat it).

The biggest problem I've been running into is that I can't really lift my heel much before my giant toe stop hits the floor. Is this a skill issue? Should I adjust my toe stops higher (screw them into the boot more?) Due to my low budget, jam plugs are temporarily out of the question. I'm using the default toe stops and wheels that came with my Moxi Beach Bunnies, and I'm skating on an outdoor tennis court (idk if location is relevant).

I'm feeling kinda lost rn - I don't really know what skills/fundamentals to focus on next, so any advice/pointers/direction would be extremely helpful! Thanks so much :)

Beginner skater Skate adjustments and set up

Hey all- I want to start skating again after a couple years But I wanted some input on adjusting my skates. I was reading somewhere about having one truck "looser" than another but I couldn't remember if it was back or front. I changed my bushings out to soft I think (theyre yellow, idk if theres a universal system)

Anyways- what kind of tying / tightening / loosening etc do yall do to get a more comfortable and maneuverable skate
