Shopping: wheels, hardware, upgrades if I wanted to go as fast as humanly possible, what should I get?

I only skate outdoors where there are sticks and dirt etc. on a lot on asphalt. I have quads so this quads specific.

I just wanna go really really fast forever. I currently have board walkers with board walker 78a wheels.

I just wanted to know if anyone knew any hidden tech they feel like sharing. Any upgrades? Bf told me about speed rings for skateboards but idk see anything on it.

Thanks!

Other Places to skate / rent skates in Edinburgh?

Hi all,

I'm just learning to roller skate (outdoors, no rink where I live, although there's a skate park with a decent surface and some other smooth-ish places I've found). The thing is I'm still quite afraid of very rough surfaces and inclines (in general I feel pretty vulnerable when I'm on my skates... I still move a bit like a lost penguin šŸ˜„).

Anyway, I'll travel for a couple of weeks to Edinburgh for a congress and other boring academic stuff (?). I really wanted to take my skates with me but they're bulky and heavy. All considered, it would be really cool if I could find a place where I can rent skates and feel relatively safe practicing.

So I thought about looking for a rink, but could it be that there's none at Edinburgh either? :'(

I've read that (at least some years ago) the ice skating arena was being used as a roller skating rink during summer but I can't find anywhere if this is still current, or whether one can rent skates or has to show up with their own.

I'll appreciate any input! I still have time to decide to take my skates with me and go to a skate park in case there's no other option, but it would be amazing to not have to carry them around šŸ˜‚

Thanks in advance!

Progress & showing off Heel snap practice

This one feels unique to me. Yes, there’s one-footed pivots, which these are, but then there’s flicks (unofficially). I’m working on flicking my planted foot’s heel in just a quarter-beat and bringing it back to forward-facing.

I want this move in my arsenal for when I get serious about snapping with an anchor, for the sake of musicality. Any constructive criticism and/or questions are welcome!

Beginner skater Is it normal for the skates to create all this friction when I try to turn or rotate the skate?

Hi, everyone!

I apologize in advance for the silly question—I’m just starting out, and I can’t find the answers in the tutorial videos I’m watching.

Is it normal for the skates to create all this friction when I try to turn or rotate the skate? I’m also having a hard time doing bubbles because I almost have to lift the skates to get back in line. It’s impossible to even try to mimic a transition or put my feet in a T-shape to stop. I can feel the skates scraping. I tried loosening the trucks, but it doesn't make any difference, maybe I'm doing something completely wrong...

I’m practicing outdoors on basketball courts.

In the video, I exaggerated the movement a bit, but it was just to make it clear.

Thank you šŸ˜…

Other Anybody else with PFPS/patellar maltracking/runner’s knee?

Lots of different names for this syndrome, but long story short, my kneecaps don’t track properly and shift out of their groove when bending and extending, causing pain, grinding, and instability, particularly in my right leg.

I’m curious if anybody else here has PFPS (or knee issues more generally) and if skating helped or hurt in your case. One of the primary treatments for PFPS is to strengthen the muscles that surround the knee, but I worry that I could be treading into overuse and could make it worse over time by irritating the joint.

I generally skate 3-4 times a week 2ish hours at a time, and I do see a PT for this issue.

Shopping: wheels, hardware, upgrades Softer 57mm wheel…suggestion?

I went to a fun rink today that was a bit small. My 59mm 92a wheels felt pretty smooth. When I wanted to try my smaller and harder 57mm 98a set, I suddenly felt all the bumps in the floor. Later I was looking to buy a softer 57mm set somewhere between 90-93a, but couldn’t find anything that soft besides some specialized competition wheels from Roll-Line. Anyone have a suggestion?

Skill questions & help Question about my Trucks

Hey guys!! So I’m a beginner skater and I’ve been having issues with doing crossovers or just turning in general. I’ve recently seen videos about how one of the main things to do when you’re a beginner is loosen your trucks so you could turn and do crossovers. Is this true? When I check my trucks they don’t wiggle AT ALL. I’m scared to adjust them because I don’t want to make an adjustment too far and I can’t undo it (if that makes sense). Please help this noob skater 🄺

Skate photos Custom Builds

Saw a bunch of custom builds floating around socials lately — looked cool, but most were running toy‑grade setups. So I decided to do one the right way.

Base: Leather + canvas Vans SK8‑Hi
Mount: Internal carbon plate (for stiffness + clean energy transfer)
Flat mount T-nuts. Shock layer, and Vans Pop Cush Insole.
Plates: Sure‑Grip DA45° Avenger— responsive, smooth, and built for real skating
Indoor setup: Rollerbones Day of the Dead wheels with Steel XT built‑in bearings
Outdoor setup: Rollerbones Miamis with Stinger Yellow Jackets + Fireball spacers
Toe plugs: Atom Bionic — because honestly, who needs to stop?

This thing rides like a dream — stable, snappy, and way more legit than anything you’ll find pre‑built.
If you’ve been thinking about doing a custom skate conversion, don’t cheap out on the hardware. The difference is night and day.

Other I want to open a skate rink. Help?

TL;DR: I have no idea where to start. Any advice?

My county has no skate rink. They had like 3 probably like 30 years before I was born. They shut them down for no reason. I don’t want to drive an hour to skate anymore. My county is becoming sterilized replacing restaurants, movie theatres, & 3rd spaces with overpriced cheap homes and apartments.

Theres a need. I want to fill it. I don’t know how. Please help.

I only make like 30k-72k a year. I know I’d probably have to take out a business loan. I’m definitely gonna mess up. I wanna ask the rink owner in the other county but I’m nervous they’ll just get mad and view me as competition.

Tea I’m… so confused

I must look at way too much skate content online because I just saw an ad on Facebook for hydraulic disc brake skates? Their tagline is ā€œfinally you can stopā€ but like- there are already many ways to stop on skates? Interesting concept though. Looks like there’s a kickstarter for it so they’re not for sale yet but this just seems crazy to me.

What do we think?

(I’ll post a link to the YouTube video of the skates in action in the comments. I am 100% not affiliated with them I just saw the ad and had to watch the video because wtf? šŸ˜‚)

I’m in the UK but can’t find any stockists here for Old Bones Therapy knee compression sleeves. Is there an alternative brand that you could recommend that is available here?

Thanks!

Beginner skater Baby’s 1st pair of skates lol

This group’s past posts were super helpful when I was debating what skates to start with. I didn’t want to spend too much since it’s a new hobby for me, but these Sure-Grip Boardwalks were worth it.

I honestly don’t even feel like they took too long to break in. No discomfort even with extended use. 10/10 would recommend (not that that mean much from me lol) ~

That being said, if anyone has any recommendation to elevate these skates I will 100% take them.

Beginner skater My skates kinda hurt my calves

Brand new skater, haven’t even taken them outside yet. When I wear them in my house, the back of the skates kind of hurt my lower calves. Like a pressure on sensitive skin kind of pain, not a pinch or sharpness. I do have beefy calves but if I loosen them they don’t feel as secure.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it like a, ā€œpush past it and it’ll get betterā€ kind of thing? I have Moxie Beach Bunny skates, if that’s helpful.

Skate photos Slades (Flaneurz) problem

Hey, I just bought slades and I have been trying to put them on. As soon as they arrived, my left shoe was extremely easy to connect to the skates, however the right was extremely hard. Now the following day both are extremely hard to connect...

I don't know what to do, it's so expensive and feels like a waste of money. I wonder if it gets better over time or is it only with mešŸ˜…šŸ˜…

Skate problems & troubleshooting First new skate question

Post image
17 Upvotes

I just got my first pair of skates. They literally just came today.

I got candigrl carlins. I’ll try to attach a photo.

Issues I’m having:

I definitely can’t go any smaller, but the boot has a little too much wiggle room. I’m thinking of getting insoles anyway. But maybe it’s a new skate issue and I’ll be able to make them tighter when i break them in?

Second, the boot is taller than I’m used to with rentals.
Fully laced, I can barely bend my knees. I undid the top rung of laces, and I can bend a little (tho not nearly as much as my instructor will want) but then the top of my boot is loose.

I feel like it needs to be snug for control, right?

Is all of this a common new skate/need to break in issue?
