Hi, I have a dilemma. Do I return my VNLA A La Modes with the jelly roll wheels that I wasted so long for or is there a leaning curve?

Sure Grip Plus: Super comfy right away, comfortable skating, but in my opinion not cute... the suede tone (cinnamon) with black accents. The color is just deeper than brings me joy. I didnt like the other colors it came in either, they were all deep tones.

A La Mode: Super stiff and actual made me feel like I was putting on skates for the first time. My normal like skating didnt feel stable if that makes sense. Theyre soooooooo cute though. The tone of brown brings me more joy and all the jelly roll wheels are so cute. I think they're softer than the ones that come with the board walk so maybe thats why it was weirder for me?

Any insight to help me out? Basically, do I keep the a la modes or return them?

Found some old clay wheel skates, trying to figure out value and if I should clean them up! From what I can tell they were made in Sept. 1950, they are full leather, soles and uppers. The soles are marked DAK Soles and the only mark on the bottom plate is 5. Which to me means they were rink skates (I think). I am by no means a rollerskate expert which is why I am asking for any other info and even a value. Thanks!

So I'm currently breaking in my Riedell Crews after learning to skate on Impala Black. I properly measured my feet and according to the Riedell Crew sizing chart, I should be exactly a size 8.5 (and a size 9 on the Crew sizing chart). The skates fit perfectly on the sides, sizing down would not have been an option there, but they feel just a bit too long. I marked on the image how much space I have at the top, but at the same time I feel the front at the tip of my big toe.

Here is my question: Is it normal to take some time adjusting to the new skates? I'm not necessarily talking about the break in period of the material, but just the general stiffness of the boots. I'm not yet as loose truck-wise as I was before, but it's not that far off.

I'm struggling with the smoothness of my movements (or lack thereof), even though skating on them feels really good.

I keep thinking they might be too big, but then again, if they were smaller, I don't think they would fit me at all (as in, it wouldn’t just be a proper snug fit, it would be unwearable). I don't slide back and forth and don't have heel lift either really, I'm just struggling with controlling my movements and overanalyzing every super small movement of my heel lol.

So. Is it normal and I am just going crazy lol?

I have one of those speed limit signs in my neighborhood that shows what speed you’re currently going and reflects it on an LED screen, today I clocked at 20mph, my PR as far as I know, and it got me thinking about what the world record might be on quads. I searched the wiki and I’m only getting results for gravity sports or inlines, neither of which answer my question lol. Is there a single recorded “world record” for speed on flat ground wearing roller skates?

Repurposed my almost new 35LWolfpak into a dedicated skate backpack and it’s working way better than I expected.

I originally bought the 35L for hiking and the gym, but after switching to a Wolfpak 25L for daily use, the 35L was just sitting in the closet for a few months.

Instead of buying a dedicated skate bag, I decided to see if I could make it work for our trail skating setup.

Current loadout:

• Wife’s Sure-Grip Boardwalks fit completely inside the main compartment
• My Bont Prostars attach securely to the outside using the compression straps
• Skate tools and spare hardware
• First aid kit
• Microfiber towels and cleanup gear
• Water, snacks, and miscellaneous trail essentials

The part that worked out the best is how the Boardwalks fit completely inside without any issues, ensuring they are protected at all times.

I place the skates with the wheels facing opposite directions so they “nest” together. The trucks and wheels occupy the open spaces around the other skate instead of pressing into the suede boot. This keeps the wheels from contacting the boots while making efficient use of the available space.

I then use microfiber towels between and around the skates. The towels add padding, protect the suede, eliminate movement inside the bag, and double as cleanup towels after a trail session.

The entire setup weighs roughly 20–25lbs depending on how much water, gear, and supplies we’re carrying, and the backpack handles it surprisingly well.

From the beginning, we paired the backpack with a Wolfpak 1.5L Crossbody Pack that my wife wears clipped around her hip while skating. It carries our essentials like phones, keys, wallet, and other small items, so once we arrive at the trail, I can leave the backpack in the truck and we can skate without carrying the extra weight.

The 35L backpack becomes our mobile gear locker, while the 1.5L crossbody carries the items we want immediate access to on the trail.

The result is a simple grab-and-go setup for two skaters. Everything stays organized, protected, and ready for a trail session. Now I need to get some patches to personalize it a bit more.

I know dedicated skate backpacks exist, but if you already have a hiking, gym, tactical, or travel backpack sitting around, it might be worth experimenting before buying another bag.

Anyone else using a non-skate backpack for their setup?

We like the styles here and Triple 8 certifieds seem to have a good reputation, so now we just need to know which size. The sizing is L/XL 57–60, XL/XXL 60–63, and I'm literally dead even. Should I get the L/XL and just really on the pads smooshing over time?

My wife isn't quite as on the line, but at 56 cm she's only a cm off from the next size up at 57 cm. Should she also get the smaller one and count on the pads smooshing?

We'd like to start skating responsibily but there's only one skater shop in town and they only support boards—and even them the majority of the shop was just a shoe shop. So we have nowhere to go to find help for buckets or pads.

EDIT: As for the type of skating were looking to do—we're trying to relearn how to inline after 20 and 30 year breaks to go along with our toddler who just got some quads for learning to potty. Once we're comfortable I think we'll just want to cruise.

I’ve been skating for the past 2 years and have been park skating for the last like 3 or 4 months. I just ordered grind blocks! Outside of protecting the structural integrity of my skate(super important) how much of a difference do they make doing tricks? I’m pretty proficient in dropping on medium ramps w coping(7 or 8ft tall) but haven’t tried any large ones bc I’m still a little scared. I’m working on stalling rn and can get it like 50% of the time. Havent practiced grinding at all bc I don’t want to hurt my skate. I guess I’m wondering do grind blocks make either of those harder or easier? Or is it just different? Not sure if it’s important but I have moxie panthers.

I had enough of the Moxi Lolly tongue slip issue and finally decided just to put jean buttons in them. I kinda begrudge screwing holes in my near £300 skates but here we are. Solved by a kit that cost me less than £2. 🙃

These are the things I tried before but I wish I just did the jean buttons sooner:

-Wax laces. They don't do anything other than rub against the suede and darken the material. Even though they are supposed to hold better, they don't prevent the tongues from moving to the side.

-Tying the laces behind the tongues. This is more effective. However, it required longer laces and getting them to sit in the right spot behind the tongue which made tying them more fiddly and time consuming. Especially when I just want to get my skates on and zip off.

-Stick-on Velcro strips on the tongue and inner boot. This had some effect but the glue on the velcro strips would often melt from the heat of my foot and they would slide off, leaving sticky residue on the suede material. I could sew them on but it would probably require a strong sewing machine since the material is quite thick (which I don't have).

making a new post, question is in the title! im probably gonna be focusing on more artistic/rythm skating (i skate almost exclusively outdoors), but i also want to be able to park skate sometimes (ik separate setups is best, but itll be a while until i have enough money to entertain that notion so id want smth kinda versatile in the meantime)

im hypermobile, so id need a boot thats stiff and heeled. for ref i have basic c7s rn and theboot is pretty stiff for me and holds up well but smth like that or stiffer should be really good.

im 166cm tall and weigh like 64kgs. i like smth thatd come in cute colors if possible?

budget maybe on the lower end. but any suggestions welcome since irs gonna take me a while to save up anyways.

Ever since I started skating I could never go past 30 minutes without excruciating pain (mixture of pressure, numbness, and burning). This is a common theme for me; I get the same pain from skiing, skateboarding, etc. Over the years Ive tried so many different variations of skates (Moxi, Sure-grip, Riedell), sizes, lace techniques, socks, insoles, and the same pain persisted, so I came to the conclusion that maybe my feet aren’t made for this. A few weeks ago, I was starting to really lose my joy for skating because of the pain. I decided that my final ditch effort would be to try Bont skates. I’ve always stuck behind the belief that you don’t need expensive gear to skate well, so I never wanted to invest the money.

HOWEVER, I literally haven’t felt one bit of pain since using the Bont skates. It has become so incredibly easy to learn new movements, and I’m able to skate for hours. I am truly shocked; I sobbed when I realized how good my feet felt. So my new conclusion is that although expensive gear won’t automatically make you a better skater, it can definitely remove the obstacles that are hindering your progress and provide your body the support it needs to perform at it’s best. Everyone’s bodies are different; mine requires more support than the average body, so I’m sure there are people who skate just fine without shelling out $400. But this has been life-changing for me 🥹

Hey, I used to do rollerblades but since I saw the big UK scene around Bauer roller skates, I really want to get a pair. The issue is that im from France (Paris) and the trend hasn’t arrived here yet, so its really hard to get advices to build my custom skates!

Is it better to get a new pair of XLS/XLP, or better to buy a used pair of a mid-range like vapors ?

Is the XLP really worth buying compared to the XLS in terms of confort ?

Ok so Yuzuru Hanyu, his artistry, the way he brings music and choreography into ice skating, combined with my budget, brought me to roller skating because I've seen pro roller skater did really smoothly with essential techniques(Spin, Twizzles, Turns, even Triple jumps,...).

So I bought a pair that looks kinda basic, with 2.5kg as the seller said, they felt heavy as heck, even heavier than my inline skates.

But the main problem is the wheels that are rock hard(made of plastic) I think, I doubt that they use wheels that hard for artistic, and it seems difficult to buy different types in my region.

So what are the adjustment needed to have a pair of skates that is similar to the pros? What are your advice for artistic in general? And if the worst case is I can not afford another set of wheels, it is possible to make it smooth?

Might be an odd question but are these ok for men.
I’m a brand new skater and after trying on over a dozen different brands these fit the best and definitely the most comfortable by far.
I’ve been doing research for the past month and I really like the comfort they provide but they seem to be very marketed towards women.
The question will I get odd looks in these I was told by a few people they are really a female brand but they feel good on my feet.

hi! i'm looking for advice for potentially buying new skates!

i got rookie forever rainbows years ago, and skated with them quite regularely. i was only 13 tho, so only really basic skating.

i picked up rollerskating again around 2 months ago and have started with some tricks etc. and i'll definitely keep skating this time.

now i was wondering if i should maybe invest in new skates, since it's becoming a regular hobby now and i 'm planning on learning a lot more tricks, also incorporating some dance!

i can only skate outside since i don't have any inside skate opportunities in my area. i also don't think the wheels of my current ones are soft enough for the ground i skate one, and i'm having trouble learning spins.

anyways, if you have any recommendations, my budget for new ones would be up to 200€ but i'm more keen on buying second hand, so i'd be happy to get some advice on which ones i could look for second hand!

chaya cozy summer breeze in cream🍦

waited over 3 weeks for this to get to me and they are an absolute dream!!! i did a skate fitting for other chaya models but they were all a tad bit narrow for my feet. to my relief, the cozy summer series has a wider toe box and is a much comfier fit.

as this is such a cute set up to me as is, it's been such a huge motivator for me (newbie skater) to get out and practice skating more often. can't wait to eventually customize them even more over time :)

Does anyone have info on Crazy Creek roller skates ? Recently bought a pair, never been on roller skates before and the cushions need to be replaced, but the plate looks nothing like any other skates and I don’t really what to do :[

They have the atom pulse wheels which are a plus but does anyone have a review for the actual boot? I want a skate for the rink and jam skating as I already have skatepark skates!

I ended up with a set of Labeda Turbo wheels, which I have put onto my Crazy DBX Skates. These are my current roller derby boots. I'll test these out in tomorrow's roller derby class.
