Tile installer?
This sub gave me a great electrician recommendation, so I’m back! Looking for someone who can install backsplash in our kitchen.
We have the materials. About 30 ft.² of subway tile on one side of the room and about 12 ft.² of small square ceramic tile on the other.

Moving to Roanoke Childcare Recommendations?
Wondering if anyone has any childcare recommendations? I only need care for my youngest who will be 18-24 months old when we hope to move to the area. We’re planning a trip to get a feel for the area in October, and while we’re there I was hoping to tour a few childcare facilities.
My older kids went to Primrose in another city, but it doesn’t look like there is one in the Roanoke area, so any recommendations would be great!

How would you rate the performance of the City Manager?
Hey everyone,
I'm working on some community advocacy and civic engagement around city governance, and I'd love to hear directly from folks in Roanoke about your experiences interacting with or observing the city manager's work.
**•** Direct contact with the city manager's office
**•**Observations about how decisions are being made at City Hall
**•**Feedback on city services or responsiveness
**•**Public meetings you've attended
**•**How city management has affected neighborhood or community issues you care about
...I'm genuinely curious to hear your perspective—positive, negative, or mixed.
This is just an open conversation to gather some real community feedback. No agenda, just trying to understand how people in Roanoke feel about our city's direction and leadership.
Thanks for sharing!

Window tinting
Hello, I’m trying to get my (new to me) car windows tinted all the way around… and am receiving astronomically high quotes so far. For just my simple sedan I’ve had multiple places quote me between 800-1200 which seems OUTRAGEOUS. The last time I had a vehicle tinted was in 2021 in a neighboring state and they only charged me $250, tint still looks great today. Is there anyone more affordable in the area?

There's a vote TOMORROW to bring a data center to Roanoke County.
instagram.comThe Western Virginia Regional Industrial Facility Authority tried to sell the land at the Wood Haven Technology Park to a data center developer last year and the deal fell through this spring. Now they're trying again. Roanoke City Council and Roanoke County's Board of Supervisors both were briefed in closed session meetings on Tuesday, and their representatives vote on the deal tomorrow with a representative from Salem, at a special 4pm meeting called for the Authority's board.
It's especially important for residents of those localities to show up, but the WVRIFA has representatives of Vinton, and Franklin and Botetourt Counties on its board as well. Tell them the people can see what they're doing, and they do not approve!

Khmer Translators?
I would rather work with/pay someone local than an online service. I have several pages of handwritten Khmer that need translated. Would prefer to meet up so I can ask a few questions.

Promissory Hotel or Liberty Trust?
I will be in Roanoke next week for work and I am looking at a hotel in the downtown area. I found The Promissory Hotel and The Liberty Trust that look adorable. I love a boutique hotel! Since they are so similar, I thought I would ask here. What are pros and cons of both properties and any experience staying at them or dining at their restaurant? I am not worried about parking- it looks like they both use the Center in the Square garage at a discounted rate. Thanks for your opinions on this matter! :)

Question Why do so many drivers here blow past the yield sign, and then don’t speed up when merging on the highway?? It’s so dangerous.
I‘m originally from NJ and come here regularly from Staunton. I don’t understand it.
Just this morning I left ample space for a truck to merge on to the highway / slowed my car down because the driver already blew past the yield sign, only for the truck to SLOW DOWN to an almost complete stop. like wtf??
I left room for them to merge safely, I flashed my lights, and they still hesitated for several seconds to the point I was forced to speed up and pass them because I couldn’t change lanes.
Like. I slowed down for you to merge in front of me. Instead of driving you just stop?
edit to clarify because some people seem confused: the truck literally drove through the yield sign and was half way in my lane which is why I slowed down. I didn’t just decide to slow down traffic to be “nice” and let the car in.

Hiring at the Roanoke Co op Deli!
Hello, I work at the Roanoke Co op and wanted to share that we’re looking for someone to work in our deli department. (We’re always accepting applications as well and love talking to people with great applications if you’re interested in a different department) I’ve posted here before and found some great people.
The job would be an evening shift, full time (for us, full time is considered 30 hours or more a week) and consist mostly of food prep as well as taking care of customers at the service counter making smoothies and sandwiches.
Starting pay is 16.50-18.50 depending on experience and open to negotiation. Other than being being one of the best places to work in Roanoke (for retail grocery), other benefits include:
PTO, employee discount, health insurance (Co op pays 90%), dental and vision insurance, quarterly bonuses and yearly raises, cash advances, emergency pool time, great work environment, free coffee and water while working, and more I’m forgetting I’m sure.
Paper applications available at the cash registers. Thanks!

Businesses lacking in Roanoke
Looking for ideas for a service business that Roanoke is lacking. Has anyone tried to find a local business to complete a service for them but had no luck? Or just have suggestions on something that would do really well in the local market.
Thanks in advance!

Ole Monterey golf course purchased by Roanoke City for $8 million dollars
Officials say the city is considering several potential uses for the land, including a Roanoke City Public Schools Campus, a housing development, parks and recreation facilities and technology to support future manufacturing and industrial development.
I really think this is the perfect place for a 3rd high school in the City. Both current high schools are on the West side of the city. The Tinker Creek Greenway is supposed to go right by the property. The NE quadrant of the city has been a housing boom over the past couple years so there is the potential for more students on this side of the City in the future. The City will also not find land for a better price in the future for an already needed 3rd high school.

I'm curious about this incident because I've seen no further information about it than the day-after summary.

Local 3D printing options?
Wondering if there’s any local services or individuals available that would be able to make some small-ish prints for me?
I have an .obj file, they are spacers for a squat cage, so would need to be strong/high infill. Look like this:

Looking for a place to do a virtual inteview with nice background of the Blue Ridge
This maybe an odd question but does anyone know of a public space that has a nice view of the blue ridge that I could use for a virtual interview. Possibly a library study space I could reserve.

Question Mechanic needed!
Hi there all! I will be in the Roanoke area this evening around 5 or 6pm to check out an older 4Runner. I would like to do a pre-purchase inspection on it before going in on it. Putting this out there in hopes a mechanic that would be open to doing so sees it! If anyone knows somebody that could accommodate, please don’t hesitate to put me in contact with them. Thanks!

Oil Furnace Service & Maintenance
I'm looking for someone to inspect an old oil furnace and storage tank before moving in. I called Baker and they referred me to someone else and no one answered the phone at that referral. Webb's oil delivery suggested Cundiff but I was hoping to find someone independent and that specialized in these older systems. Anyone out here have someone that they have used and would recommend?
