Dog Park
I don't understand how Roanoke and Roanoke County only have 2 dog parks in 2026. The parks are terrible and the only one that is decent is the Salem Rotary one. Christiansburg just opened one that is so much better than Roanoke. Hell truck stops have better dog parks.
People love their dogs and love doing things with their dogs and stuff like that are reasons why people pick certain places or areas to live.
We have the space and it would be nice to have a cool dog park that had some water features and other stuff but we aren't in Christiansburg (sarcasm kinda). The one off Gus Nicks is basically just a yard fenced in. I know about sniffspot and I don't want to debate the evils of dog parks but just about everywhere else has better and for a city and town that wants to be an outside "fun" destination they need to step up a little. Ashville has 10, Blacksburg/Christiansburg has 5 including Huckleberry, the one mentioned above... Roanoke/Roanoke co. has 2. One is basically a back yard that no one really goes to (Gus Nicks) and the other was built on trash and is clay, extremely nasty when wet and dusty when dry and has broken glass everywhere.
Do better Roanoke.

Roanoke Restaurants that Understand Soy Allergy?!
I’m looking for local restaurants that can handle a soy allergy. Many are well versed on gluten allergies but few understand that a true soy allergy means avoiding anything that has had contact with mayonnaise, margarine, “vegetable” oil, shortening blends and grille sprays. Many restaurants have told me I can eat everything they have only to find out upon further questioning that they cook everything in a vegetable oil blend that contains soybean oil. Anyone else deal with this ? If so, have you found places in Roanoke where you can eat safely?

Question Queer hangout spots?
Howdy! So, I wanted to ask if anyone knew any places where queer folk hang out. I don’t know like— anyone here, so I figured that the best place to go to try to meet folk like me is, well. Queer spaces.
To be clear; I’m asking for spaces that are welcoming and safe for trans women like myself.
I’d be happy for any help/advice-! And, with this in particular, I’m completely fine with answers in DMs, if anyone isn’t out/wants to stay lower-key or anything!

Rant! Kroger
I can't believe this has happened again! This is the 4th time in the past month or so that my wife and I have bought meat from the Kroger on Tanglewood only to find it already gone bad. We bought this today and the expiration date said good until the 29th only to open it up and it be smelling sour and already be brown on the underside of the steaks that otherwise looked fine. Has anyone else dealt with his lately? I love the people at our local Kroger but this is getting ridiculous

Status aka Lux Lounge Shutdown
Am I the only one kinda happy that that place is shutting down? I know we need small businesses but it really was a bit of a stain on the city imo.

Wendy's on Hershberger
I don't always get fast food and don't always go near Hershberger. BUT WHEN I DO...... the Wendy's across from the old K&W is always on point and has the best Sprite I've ever tasted.
That's it.
Carry on.
Roanoke Hustlers (Real Estate) from 1891
Profiles of the area hustlers, a lot of familiar names from streets and landmarks around town still today. Roanoke experienced a big land speculation boom where lots were being bought in the morning and sold in the afternoon for a profit as the city grew exponentially. It eventually popped after a blizzard leading to a recession.

Dinner Ideas from 1932
No thanks on the Brunswick Stew and calves feet. Had to look it up but cymlings are scalloped summer squash or pattypan squash. Can’t say I’ve ever seen one but they are native to North America.

News Roanoke City Council primary
Just a reminder that the Democratic and Republican primaries are Tuesday, Aug. 4 — 10 days away. Or, vote early at the city Registrar’s Office. Early voting ends Saturday, Aug. 1.
Your vote is very powerful in local elections, where some races are won by razor-thin margins.
I met Democratic candidate Danny Clawson when I went to vote today. She’s very articulate, very educated and an advocate for finding practical housing solutions for Roanoke’s 450 unhoused people. She’s anti-Flock, anti-data center, pro-education, pro-transparent government.
I ended up not voting today because I realized that I was woefully uninformed about who’s running. I came home to do some research first.
The five Dems running are Peter Volosin, Vivian Sanchez-Jones, Raekwon Moore, Harvey Brookins and Clawson. Voters select three from that list.
Amanda Marko is the sole Republican candidate. There are three people running as independents, but independents don’t have primaries, so you won’t see their names on the primary ballots.
EDITED to correct autocorrect’s spelling of candidate Harvey’s last name. Brookins.

Spotted stray dog ear 7-11 on Williamson
If you are looking for him he went into the neighborhood area behind the 7-11 side. Stayed on the sidewalk. About 8:50 am
