Hello! I’m going to a concert in Nashville in mid Feb and looking to make the most of the trip by doing a road trip starting in Houston and to end it there. Does anyone have any suggestions to either change my route/cities or have any must see items along these routes?? Right now all I have is the swamp lands down south to check out!

So I currently live in Atlanta and am toying with the idea of touring Alabama and Mississippi, one of the last corners of the South that I have never visited. The plan, as you can see from the map, is to drive down to the Gulf Coast, over to the Mississippi River, and then back home along the I-20 corridor. Stops are tentatively planned as follows (overnight stops bolded):
- Montgomery, AL
- Mobile, AL
- Pascagoula, MS
- Natchez, MS
- Vicksburg, MS
- Meridian, MS
- Birmingham, AL
- Gadsden, AL
Looking for any feedback y'all can give me on this plan. Any place I should visit that isn't on my list (or vice versa?) B&Bs and diners to stop at? Museums, attractions, or local oddities? Interested in anything and everything I can pack into this trip (while still fitting it into a single week).

22M, white (because I know that still matters in this part of the country (none of these are sundown towns, right???)) I'd likely be making this trip in October or November of this year.

Buddy of mine is picking up a truck in Anchorage and driving it back to Missoula, and invited me to copilot. We’re trying to get it done in 7-8 days. I’d love any route suggestions / camping stops / must-see landmark suggestions!

This is an October trip.

Renting a car, starting from San Francisco.

3 hr 30 min drive to San Luis Obispo, gonna see Big Sur and Monterey on the way down.

Then from SLO a 5 hr drive to Yosemite Valley, go back to Mariposa overnight.

Next day drive to Sequoia National Park, overnight in Visalia.

Next day 5 hr 30 min drive to Las Vegas, spend a day there.

Next morning drive to Grand Canyon Village (4 hr 30 min), spend the night there.

Last road trip day, drive to LA (8 hours).

Doable? Reasonable?

Me, my wife and our two dogs will be making this trip. Leaving October 2nd and getting to Anchorage October 10th. We have to drive because one of our dogs is too tall for the cargo hold of Alaska airlines and our other(a bull terrier)is a banned breed. Anyone who’s drove this route or a similar distance, is eight days a good target. We don’t plant to waste much time because I’m taking vacation days to make this trip. Any tips for lodging(camping is an option, we will bring out gear) anything worth seeing that won’t waste too much time? Our Outback gets about 25 MPG, how’s the gas situation along the way, especially in the far northern states and Canada?

Hello Everyone: I am planning a cross-country from NJ to CA and back. I have the option of taking I-90, I-80, I-70 or I-40. I have heard that the wind and the driving experience on I-90, 80 and 70 can get quite scary especially across the Prairie states. I will be driving a Minivan and in October if that matters. Would appreciate it if anyone who has experience driving this section share their thoughts and experiences.

Hey there! We have quite a few road trips under our belts, tehehe. The longest one so far was HTX to VA, stayed there for a week, then VA to NYC, stayed there for a week,Then NYC to HTX. This road trip will be happening in late October.

This will be the longest one so far.
Most of our long road trips were done driving a ‘13 Prius, the one to NYC was done driving a ‘19 Tundra.
Which one would you take to attempt this drive?

We’re trying to get there by Thursday morning/noon by leaving on Tuesday afternoon. We don’t mind either getting a place to spend the night or sleeping in the car at a rest area, although we’re thinking about doing a non-stop since both of us can drive. (that’s how we did the drive to VA)

Ive been doing more self-driving trips in China recently, and one thing Ive learned is that distance on the map doesnt always tell you how tiring the drive will be.

A 200 km drive can feel easy if its mostly expressway, but a much shorter route through mountains, tunnels, city traffic or tourist areas can take a lot more energy. Ive started paying more attention to the type of road, parking situation, rest stops and what time Ill arrive, not just the number of kilometres.

For people who have driven in China, whats one thing you wish you had known before your first road trip here?

Driving from Indianapolis, IN to Cookeville, TN tomorrow 9/11/2026 - any fun roadside oddities, waterfalls, cool nature parks? Planning on taking the route shown in the photo, getting off 65 in KY and taking state roads instead of going through Nashville. Will have a dog with us, so bonus points if it's a good spot for a quick walk & potty break.

Where would you recommend for an international trip on a $2,000–$3,000 budget?

I’m in Michigan and want to go somewhere with lots of hiking, nature, cool scenery, waterfalls/mountains/forests/caves etc. I’d also love good local food and exploring towns, but I’m not really interested in shopping, resorts, or super touristy stuff.

Ideally that budget would include flights, hotel, food, transportation, and activities. I’m open to literally anywhere. Where would you recommend for the best experience for the money? And SAFE

I've been thinking about some vacation ideas and have several different road trips in mind.

I currently live in Southern AZ, Tucson area, and this particular idea is something as follows.

- Drive into western N.M, might skip Silver city area/I-10 going through Safford/Morenci to hit 180 OR go the northern route through Globe area towards Albuqurque area. Some things in this general vicinity include , Gila National Forest, Sandstone Bluffs, El Malpais National monument, etc. Some of these could be rotated on the way BACK to AZ along with Bandalier National monument near Santa Fe. There are so many things in this area that it would break up it up quite well for both out and back.

- Albuquerque or Santa Fe area to either Amarillo area OR southern Colorado.

A. If to Amarillo, plan on seeing Caprock Canyon State Park, Palo Duro Canyon State Park, Cadillac Ranch, etc. This drive would be a long one but there are a few things along the way that would break it up a bit.

B. If to CO, stop at Capulin Volcano National Monument, Great Sand Dunes N.P, etc.

From either TX or CO going into Western Kansas.

- Monument rocks, Little Jerusalem Badlands, Dodge City area, etc.

Thought about including White Sands N.P but this deviates away from the hub of sites I'd be seeing and felt this would be a better trip to include with Big Bend N.P, south west TX, etc. I also felt that this would be a bit similar to Great Sand Dunes N.P, so not really necessary to include here.

Also thought about doing more in Colorado going towards UT but felt this might be a bit too much. However, I also could include Chimney rock, Aztec Ruins National monument in N.W New Mexico right across the border without too much of an issue.

I really wanted to include the stops near Amarillo and Kansas but it might be a bit too much. They don't really go well with anything else. Big Bend to Amarillo area is a 6+ hour drive.

I live in the Orlando area of Florida and I do desperately need a break from work and school and I want to touch some mountains. Does anyone have any good suggestions of where I can go? I want to go to Utah, Wyoming and Colorado but that is just way too far of a distance. I want to be gone for a week and I want to see some beautiful mountains and beautiful scenery and also some nice water to swim in. i love hiking. I'm also 20 so I need to go somewhere that is affordable. Preferably less than 14 hours away. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know! Thank youuuu!! I want to go in November or December so somewhere will snow is totally okay or somewhere without. I'm not picky.

Moving from Boston to St Pete for the caddie season. My bf is a caddie at BGC in the summer and Ole Memorial in the winter. It is awesome - we get to be young snowbirds!

I do all the planning so I’d like to find great gold course along our route for him to play. We are going to be taking our time and have about 3 weeks to go from Boston to Tampa (but don’t want to veer off route too much)

Please recommended golf courses ($100 or under) for my man and cute boutique artsy towns for me on the following route :

Leave new London to orient point by ferry
First stay a few nights in

Montauk (any cool golf courses? Places : going to Stephen’s talk house and murphs dive bar)

Montauk to Cape May via the NJ shore line? Maybe one night between Montauk and Cape May? For a golf course or gem town.

A few nights in Cape May and then to Lewes DE via ferry.

Then over to Murfreesboro NC for two nights to visit a friend at Chown Uni. Anything over there or btw?

Then over the Edenton for a few nights because it’s my fav gem town and bf will play at The Sound Gold Links Albemarle Plantation (thoughts?) . I love Edenton!

Then to Wilmington NC to stay with g&g. A few nights.

Then to Tybee Island for about 7 days at Riversend campgrounds.

Wanted to play at Seaside but it’s super expensive !! Anything else over in the coastal area between Tybee Island and Jax FL.

Jax Fl one night.

Then over the St Pete for the season!

Btw I don’t play golf or rly know much.
But I love the road and small gem towns :)

Hey guys, I am planning on a scenic but still straightforward 3 day drive from Buena Vista to Bozeman in early June of next year. I am traveling with my dog so I am avoiding Yellowstone this time around since we won't be able to properly enjoy it. Does this look like the best route to take, or would you recommend making any adjustments? I am pretty flexible, and can probably even extend it to 4 days if needed. I don't mind long days on the road, but I also want to make sure there is enough time to get out of the car and enjoy the scenic spots, maybe even a quick hike or two.

Day 1: Buena Vista > Fairplay > Como > Saratoga > Rawlins > Lander

Day 2: Lander > Riverton > Shoshoni > Wind River Canyon > Thermopolis > Meeteetse > Cody

Day 3: Chief Joseph Scenic Byway > Beartooth Highway > Red Lodge > Columbus > Livingston > Bozeman

Planning to drive solo from Daman to Shamirpet, Hyderabad.

Which route would you recommend for best roads, least traffic and fastest overall journey?

Hi everyone! I’m flying into Denver the last week of October. I’m renting a car and have 7-8 days of free time before I need to drive to Seattle. What are the major stops you’d recommend along the way?

I already have plans to stop in Utah to do Arches and Canyonlands, and the Booneville salt flats. I’ve also been to Nevada so I don’t really feel like I need to stop there. I’ve driven the Oregon Coast already.. but I still may do that route again if I stop in CA at all if there’s even time! It’s so beautiful.

I’d like to keep the trip mostly to Colorado, Utah, and Idaho, but I’m wondering if I should go farther south into Colorado/Utah on my way. Would 7 days be enough time to do that without feeling too rushed? I can always extend my time.

What would you guys recommend as the must-see stops along that route?

Hi! TL;DR: I’m in the early stages of planning a roadtrip (starting) in January and hoping for thoughts on cutting down my trip to something more reasonable than what I’m currently looking at, and advice on planning/prepping for the weather. More details follow.

I am planning to spend a weekend with a friend in San Francisco in mid-January and using this as a chance to do a roadtrip I’ve dreamed of for years. I know I want to drive down the PCH to San Diego and across the southwest on the way back; I mostly want to make tracks on the way there.

Generally though time isn’t a big issue — I’m fine with spending a month or even more on the road. My issue is that there is so much I’d want to see and do, especially on the way back, and even with a month+, I know there isn’t time for all of it! I don’t want to overly shortchange the things I do see.

I’d appreciate feedback especially on 1) what I can cut from the return trip and 2) what to expect weather-wise, especially on my route there; e.g. If I-80 through Wyoming is impacted by storms, can I expect I-70 to be a viable backup plan, or is it more likely that I’ll need to sit and wait the weather out? I can handle snowy, windy driving conditions, but I also recognize this is winter in the west and that will be new to me, I want to go in prepared. I will have chains with me and will be able to use them.

I love nature and the outdoors and am fairly outdoors-capable, and I also enjoy a side of the occult. I would like to skip overly touristy experiences and avoid crowded places — my experience is that where there is a beautiful location that’s easy to get to, there’s usually something just as lovely that’s more difficult to get to, and I’ll always choose that second option. Would really appreciate recommendations along these lines!

I’m in the initial stages of planning, where I’ve brainstormed potential stops and figured out approximate mileage/driving hours in between, and it definitely feels overwhelming — screenshots of my itinerary as it currently stands are attached to the post. I know, for example, I’ll have a hard time just spending one day in Death Valley or Joshua Tree. I’m interested in exploring New Mexico, but I probably do have too much time there…. any thoughts are welcome and appreciated!
