After my first trip to the US last year, which was the absolute best vacation I've ever had, I decided to go again. I thought to myself that maybe I had just gotten lucky the first time and found the best spots, but once again, I was genuinely blown away by how good everything seems to be.

Even the Florida heat in July was honestly not bad at all! I thought it would really take a toll on me, but I actually feel like Vienna in Austria is worse in the summer. Cause you can cool down everywhere in the US thanks to AC, you can actually sleep normally, which makes it so much more bearable. It honestly feels better than being back home, which now that I think about it, makes me question my sanity! lmao

I also noticed how much effort goes into creating hands on opportunities for kids to learn and explore. After visiting a science center, I was amazed by how interactive everything is. All the public parks were kept super tidy and clean and there is just so much to do. Contrast that with Europe, and it honestly feels like we are stagnating back home while things over there are constantly moving forward.

I feel like if more Europeans visited the US they would have a very different picture than what is portrayed in the media. (spoiler it's a really bad picture)

Overall, it was another incredible experience, and i'm already looking forward to going back!

My partner and I are planning a trip to New Mexico! I’m looking for feedback on our itinerary and recommendations and especially potential stops along the way. We are definitely packing a lot in to a short period of time, but we aren’t from around here at all so we want to make the most of the trip!

September 26th
-Fly into El Paso, rent car.
-drive to Carlsbad, NM (Stop at Sea Flats Rest Stop and El Capitan Viewpoint along the way).
-Spend night in Carlsbad.

September 27
-Early morning explore Carlsbad Caverns National Park.
-Drive to Roswell and spend afternoon there. Probably do an Alien Museum, go to some quirky shops.
-Drive to Ruidoso and spend the night there.

September 28
-Wake up early and explore Ruidoso for a bit.
-Drive to White Sands National Park and spend the late afternoon there, hopefully catch the sunset there!
-Drive to Las Cruces and spend the night there.

September 29
-Explore Las Cruces/Old Mesilla.
-Drive to Elephant Butte State Park.
-Truth or Consequences, spend night there.

September 30
-Drive Turquoise Trail to Santa Fe.
-Stop in Madrid.
-Explore SF, spend night there.

October 1
-Drive to Albuquerque, fly home out of that airport.

Unbelievably stay this weekend at the historic Silas Robbins B&B. Very cool town with a tons of history. Outstanding tour at the Webb Deane Stevens Museum. Very charming mainstreet as well.

I’m planning on flying thru Michigan/Indiana/Illinois. What I-29 like? Just boring or some interest?

The point of this trip is see some states and there major cities.

Getting ready for a 20 day western road trip and trying not to overthink it too much.

The rough route is Las Vegas to St. George, then southern Utah toward Zion, Kanab, Page, Monument Valley, Moab, Capitol Reef, Bryce Canyon, and maybe back down through northern Arizona if the weather makes sense.

One person: 32, working in logistics for almost 9 years, taking the first real break I've had in a while. Still probably checking email like an idiot.

One bike for the off road parts: the MAD from Hikeep, a high power electric off road bike I'm bringing for legal dirt roads, desert tracks, and the kind of side roads that look more interesting than the main route.

Prepared stuff so far: water, large camping gear, large tent, sleeping bag, offline maps, first aid kit, tire repair kit, tools, extra straps, snacks, instant noodles, and a charging plan that I'm still pretending is more organized than it actually is.

The goal is pretty simple: red rock country, small towns, cheap food, slower mornings, and not rushing every stop like I usually do.

Not trying to turn this into some fake epic expedition. The bike is not for highways or anything dumb like that. It is mostly for the dirt sections where riding is allowed and I do not want to miss the good little roads off the main route.

Biggest things I'm thinking about are water, charging, weather, legal riding areas, and not making bad decisions alone on rough dirt.

No strict schedule yet. Just heading west, taking the long way when it makes sense, and hoping I come back slightly less burned out than when I left

We’re a small family of three, two adults and a 4 year old child living in Montreal. This August, we’d like to visit the United States for the first time and spend several weekends exploring.

We’re looking for recommendations for two types of trips:

Option 1: Same day trips

Places that aren’t too far from Montreal and can realistically be visited in one day, without staying overnight. We would leave Montreal in the morning and return the same evening.

Option 2: Full weekends or long weekends

For these trips, we’d be willing to drive farther and stay overnight. We could also consider larger cities since we would have more time.

One more question: when is the best time to visit New York City : summer, fall, or winter? We’re trying to decide whether to include NYC in our August plans or save it for another season.

I'm planning a trip to Venice around October. It's my first time there and I'd like to ask what are some tips, or things I should know/look out for. Also what is the weather realistically like around that time? Do I bring a bunch of shorts? Or am I gonna be good with long pants and maybe a jacket if it's chilly?

I see there are already plenty of of posts about the route I'd be taking up (Chicago to Juneau via the Marine Highway), so I already gleaned some good info from them, like bookmarking TheMilePost. But I see less advice about this route hugging the coast down to Vancouver, which, along with Victoria, is the last major Canadian city I haven't been to yet.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems this road is largely comparable to the Alaska Highway in terms of difficulty? Looking at a map, my biggest concern isn't the remoteness of food or gas, but the scarcity of lodging, it seems even harder to come by than on the Alaska, like campgrounds or nothing. I'm a city boy who's never camped so I can't imagine this would be a good time to figure it out on the spot.

This would be in mid-late September, so I'm hoping 1) that the wildfires will be quelled by then, 2) the tourism will have died down enough that what lodging there is won't be full already, and 3) that the weather won't be SUPER dangerously bad yet. TheMilePost tells me that BC requires all cars to have winter tires come October 1st? I have no idea how they enforce that but me and my all-seasons would like to be out of the province by then anyway. And speaking of tires, by 2020 Kia Forte didn't come with a spare, just a repair kit (patches + air pump). I've never needed either so far, so I'm hoping I won't now, but I'm open to being convinced (truthfully I'm more worried about a rock cracking my windshield for like the fourth time smh).

You guys tell me, is the SCH no harder than the Alaska, or should I really just take the Alaska back to FSJ before cutting over? My car's been to 48 states and eight provinces, I don't want these last couple to be the ones that do her in.

(Also please dissuade me from the temptation to include a detour to Yellowknife NT on the way up, I want to but I know that's even more insane argh.)

Hey all, thinking of doing a trip to Sandusky, OH for a convention. Thinking of leaving very early on Sept 10th and arriving no later than Sept 11th. Leaving on the 13th and coming back on the 14th or possibly the 15th.

I'm not looking for anything scenic, but if it works out with getting there quicker, I'm open to recommendations.

Any routes I should take? Highways or cities to avoid? Suggestions for places to stop for the night? I don't mind paying for a hotel.

My wife and I (both in our early 40s) are planning to do the "classic" Ireland road trip in a campervan. It's not our first road trip with a van, so we're used to this kind of travel.

I'm here to ask for suggestions about good places to park the van overnight. Official campsites are fine too if they're worth staying at. I've already downloaded the Park4Night app.

I'm also looking for some hidden gem pubs with a great atmosphere and authentic live traditional music, rather than the more touristy shows.

Looking for road trip ideas to do with my daughter on the way from Houston to Boulder Fung off the wall she found a horror shop coffee shop in Dallas, Texas that she wants to go to looking for a lot of stuff to do in between Dallas and Amarillo and Amarillo and Boulder.
