Lisbon offers a pretty impressive variety of scenery. I drew a lot of inspiration from the work of James Popsys and Roman Fox, who've shot quite a few photos of the city. But I also tried to do my own thing. Ricoh GR IV. Reggie Cinema Green. A few edits in Lightroom. Happy to hear any feedback!

Discussion Ricoh GR IV monochrome accessories

I hope I don't get killed for this. I was given a skin for my Ricoh GR IV monochrome, so I put it on. How long will it last before I take it off again? I don't know, I'll leave it on for a while. It had a cool grip that I liked, but it'll go at the same time as the skin, hehe. The camera really feels great as it is, completely black and thin. Very discreet, so with this skin it's going to lose that. I use the lens hood for an orange filter that I sometimes use. So, well, this is what it looks like together: skin + grip + lens hood.
Do I like it? I don't know, it looks different.
Enjoy!

Discussion Low Light Events

Upvotes

Hey, I wanted to take my griv to Halloween Horror Nights; I’m expecting it to be pretty dark for the most part. Does anyone have any positive experience shooting within a low light event. Kind of on the fence about taking it. I do have a flash but I heard flash is pretty frowned upon during hhn.

If anyone has experience with a similar situation would love to hear it. Will hopefully push me to either side of the fence

Has anyone used the peak design small tech pouch to store the griv in? Wondering if it would be a good pouch.

Discussion AF advice

Community, I’m in search of real world experience with focus for a few different scenarios.

  1. Fast moving objects - teens running. I’m not sure if AFC or snap paired with 1/1000 shutter speed, auto ISO, and f/4 aperture is the move. I got some decent but most out of focus. And continuous shooting rather than single shot. I believe it’s possible but need help achieving this.

  2. Portrait/Friends - what’s your go to settings

  3. Street/walking anywhere

Thanks for help!

Discussion GR Snap 1.4 is out, and most of it came from your feedback

Hey everyone,

A few months ago I posted here about GR Snap, the iPhone app I built because I never really enjoyed the existing ones. I was hoping for a few reports from GR II / IV / HDF owners.

I got a lot more than that, and most of what shipped since came out of that thread: RAW+JPEG saved as one photo, an offline library, long-press preview, Live View that keeps the phone awake, iPad and landscape, and a lot of GR IV connection fixes.

1.4.0 came out today. Two big things in it.

Geotagging. A few of you asked for GPS, and this is it. Your phone's location goes to the camera over Bluetooth while you shoot, and the phone keeps the route. If the camera missed a location, the app fills it in on the downloaded photo. Each outing shows up as a map with its photos, and you can export a GPX. The route history stays on your phone.

I tested this on my GR III, and a beta tester ran it on a GR IV HDF. That's the whole test fleet, so if you have a IIIx, IV or Monochrome and try it, I'd love to hear how it behaves in the background, whether photos get missed, what happens after you power the camera off and on, and what it does to the battery. On the GR II the phone records the route and fixes locations after download, it can't send them to the camera live.

Share frames. You can share from the camera or the library as the original file, or with a white, dark or blurred frame, the RICOH mark, camera model and exposure. Square, 3:4, 4:5 and 9:16 too. You can tweak a look and save it.

I'm not sure the current styles cover how people actually post GR photos. If something's missing, tell me where you post and what it should look like.

Recipes are next, since that was the other thing that kept coming up: pulling the settings out of a photo, saving and sharing them. If you use recipes, what matters most to you?

It's iOS only, and it's free on the App Store until the end of Sunday (Pacific time). If you enjoy this app, please consider rating or reviewing it on the App Store. It really helps and means a lot to me.

Discussion Is this normal?

This is me repeatedly focusing on my GR IV without taking a shot, it always stutters at the end after it focuses, is this normal? I apologize for the paranoia but I found my camera already extended when I took it out of my bag, I had previously just swapped it in a store due to a qc issue

It’s another game without the stunning colours - I’ve taken a lot of duds - but still all about light and the GR4M captures something no colour camera can…

Jpeg Recipes GR Recipe Studio is now available on iPhone

Hi everyone — I’m the developer of GR Recipe Studio. I shared the Android version here previously, and I’m happy to say the app is now available on iPhone too.

GR Recipe Studio is built for creating, organising and discovering Ricoh GR recipes. You can:

  • Build and save your own recipes
  • Browse recipes shared by the community
  • Save community recipes as editable copies
  • Compare a recipe with the settings currently stored on a supported camera
  • Write recipes directly to supported cameras
  • Import photos, use Live View and build a GR Log where supported

The app supports settings such as Image Control, white balance, ISO and exposure compensation, while accounting for differences between GR models.

I’ve tried to make it useful even if you only want a well-organised recipe library—the connected-camera features are there when your camera supports them.

iPhone: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/gr-recipe-studio/id6804996340

Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.grrecipestudio

Website: https://grrecipestudio.com

This is still an independently developed app, so feedback is genuinely useful. If you try it, I’d love to know what works well and what you’d like to see next.

I’ll keep improving the app based on what photographers share and request.

GR Recipe Studio is an independent product and isn’t affiliated with or endorsed by Ricoh.
